I just buy a bunch of nanite copy of The Wraith from my connected exp file and then just trade with a random pilot, and if the pilot doesn't appear I reset back to the save before the trade then quit and restart the game again, and find the pilot. Once the pilot does actually appear by the sold Wraith, I hire them to work for me

of the expedition starships, there are fighters (golden vector, utopia speedster), exotics (starborn runner), haulers (iron vulture), explorers (boundary herald), and living ships (the wraith), along with frigates (Normandy, cursed ship, organic frigate). So far there has not been an expedition reward for freighters or solar ships.

(I imagine the nanite cost to buy a freighter in a new save could get pretty exorbitant...)

If you are using the 'path reference' (folder for a specific model/scene), then the look is forced. If you wanted to include the specific home seed as well, then you'd basically have to know. Easiest to 'know' is to have found a freighter with a crew you like and then use that model and value for the home seed. Without knowing, it would be gambling, change until you are happy with the result

Largely it's personal preference but but imo the Infra-Knife is the best.

I have infra knife as the primary weapon on all my mechanical ships and when I use supercharged slots for weapons on a mechanical ship I use them on the infra knife.

Some of the fauna changed I think, the water enhancement can make water look different and some of then now have ruins which makes them relic worlds. Oh yeah, they did change the freighter summon room a few years back which caused the old one to stop working. I still kept the old one around mostly as a decoration but yeah, the new one must be built if you want to summon your exocraft with freighter.

quartzite is only found here, which lets you summon exocraft anywhere... but you could also summon exocraft anywhere but purple stars at this stage in the game so that's a minor QOL buff if anything

As you go deeper, the pressure increases. And as the atmosphere gets denser, the pressure increases. Factor in the density of the atmosphere, its almost unbearable, as you jump into the ocean, the pressure should be higher than normal and therefore you would need a special upgrade to make yourself or your submarine survive the pressure.
