Expedition is different from the main gameplay, you may proceed with the expedition if you like it because once it’s done the save will be converted to a normal save where you can start the main and side stories.

Returning Player Experience

It is strongly recommend to start a new (preferably normal) save and complete the [Artemis Path](#nms-questions message) and the [Atlas Path](#nms-questions message)

Some important changes to consider (post update 4.0 Waypoint)

1. Inventory Overhaul

• Inventory reduced to Technology and Cargo. Size changed to 60/120 (max).
• New slot type: Supercharged
• Max upgrade limited to 3 + however many blueprints.

2. GUI changes

• Some new quality of life changes in the menu system.
• Inventory menu consolidated in one screen with scroll effect, expansion, tabs.

3. Technology Repackaging

• Except core modules all tech can be repackaged and stored for damage protection or transfer.

4. Difficulty settings changes

• Different game modes: Creative, Relaxed, Normal, Survival, Permadeath, Custom, Expedition.
• Except Expedition and Permadeath all modes can play together.
• Ability to change or lock difficulty on the fly.

5. Dissonance

• Added new sentinel variant.
• Added new ship type: Interceptor.
• Revamped space battle: can destroy sentinel freighter now.

6. Trade changes

• Activated Indium is nerfed, Gold is the new trade commodity.
