So the coop works when you have chickens, you put down the coop and Robin (our wife) builds it for us. Then the chickens will lay eggs if they are consistently fed grass or hay and pet every day. These eggs can be cooked, sold, used for bundles e.t.c.

Place hay into the trough for food during rain.
Deluxe coop gives autofeeders. I dont remember which level coop gives the incubator

When you upgrade the coop you will have the big coop which has an incubator for dino eggs and space for ducks.

I recommend getting a silo before this.

What, exactly, wiser means is up to you. A shed's capacity for size definitely makes it way bigger, and the clear purpose and cohesion of it is also a huge plus. After all, you're fully capable of putting your items in an out of way part of the valley that nobody visits

Processing machines work if you put them off the farm, as long as npcs don't walk into them and destroy them

Well a shed costing a decent sum of money and materials makes me think just building a cabin makes more sense, for early game at least, considering cabins are almost free, not like you'll need that large of an area for storage in early game anyway, so that benefit of the shed isn't as significant in such cases.
