Hey, it’s just on the outside and I do it for those who cannot have too much butter. It keeps the inside of the bread soft while the outside the bread gets nice and toasty.

Plus, unlike with butter you don’t have to wait for it to get soft… it’s already spreadable… and there are so many flavor options like garlic aïoli or mayo with spicy peppers… that second one goes really good with tomato soup.

You can still get the butter flavor by melting a little bit of butter in the pan and then frying it that way
