Legendaries are supposed to be good. I'm doing a test run on them now because the drop rates for Legend especially are really low.
Of the normal fish, I like lava eel and blobfish, as well as sturgeon for a little variety. Lava eel has the best roe price, but blobfish outproduces it by so much that it more than closes the gam, and runs neck-and-neck with lava eel on profits (I have pics of year-end numbers to back this up, it's not just theoretical).
Stay away from Ice Pip. It may be tied for third with sturgeon for best roe price, but the production is just horrible; it produces a fraction of the roe of other ponds.

I'll see. You may get a good month, like I did for Spring, where I got two Legend roe drops in consecutive weeks. But I got none at all from midsummer until mid-winter the previous year. A test that only runs for a single month can be skewed horribly by a little luck. But a year? Two years? It needs to be stretched out over a long enough timeline to be a truly accurate test, and that's what I'm aiming for.
