when you cut grass it can turn into hay if you have a silo. you use that hay to feed em unless they munch on grass outside your farm

You need to build a silo to collect hay, afterwards you can pull hay from the hopper in the coop/barn

animals can eat grass if let out, which gives them a few more friendship points than giving them hay, but they don't go out on rainy days or in winter so you need to be mindful of that
