You'll need to build a cabin for them (these essentially act as save slots for a single person) and then open the game up, but yes you can turn single player games into multiplayer games.

These games cannot be paused like normal though, and must be paused through a command on PC (/pause)

Yes, all farms will function like a single player farm if you're the only one there.
To answer a potential future question the HOST of the farm MUST be on to play, you cannot rejoin someone else's farm without them there.

Trees require one tile of space in every direction in order to grow. Normal trees can share a tile, but fruit trees cannot.
Once fully grown, you are able to place anything next to them.
(The left side shows the space needed for trees on their own, the right side shows the space needed for trees to be planted near each other.)

Wild trees (oak, pine, maple and mahogany) don't care about stuff being under them. You can surround them with paths, machines, grass, etc. The ONLY thing they DO care about is that they cannot fully grow if another fully grown tree is next to them. They will isntead get stuck in the sappling phase.

A good example of fish zones. Green areas closer to the shore result in lesser and non-quality fish, while red areas produce higher qualities and tougher fish in most/all areas. The more quality fish you catch, along with treasures and perfect catches, the faster you lvl up your casting distance and increase the length of your fishing bar for better catches.
