Play it the way you want to and explore it at your own pace. Do what speaks to you. A lot of people will try to get you to "gold max" and "complete the commnity center year one" but SDV is supposed to be a relaxing game.

1. talking to an NPC once doesn't fully decay for 10 days. Just talking, not even giving them gifts.
2. Once an NPC has reached 10 hearts, friendship doesn't decay anymore, which applies to all NPCs. The only exception is your spouse if you're married.

I mean, you can talk to everyone every day, only giving every single NPC a loved gift every day can be pretty expensive. I don't know what the best strat is, I guess just do whatever you're comfortable with.
