Hmm for crops I would just focus on the ones that make money and do the bare minimum to complete the cc for the others. Sprinklers help a ton, so once you unlock the quality sprinklers I would make as many as you can. As far as animals, the better ones to get early on are chickens and cows since they produce somethign every day once they're old enough.

A good way to upgrade the watering can is to check the weather and see when it is going to rain the next day, and then take it to clint that day. That way the upgrade is finished on the day after the rain and you don't miss a day watering.

You can always just buy another one. If your fishing level is low, it's actually recommended that you buy the training rod. It costs just 25 gold and sets your bar for the fishing mini game to the equivalent of fishing level 5.

Early game, generally only clear off land as you need it for space, or for specific resources. There's not much point clearing everything while you have such weak tool.

Grow some crops, spend time fishing, on Day 5 the Mines will open as well which is another option for something to do.
