Wheat is good. Its better than say corn because corn is a regrowing crop

You can plant any crop and just let them die to keep the ground tilled, but it would make more sense to use wheat which can actually survive and still be used

Actually corn might be better. Corn grows in Summer and in Fall

Then there's no dead plants on the first day of Fall

And you could still swap them out for other seeds if you want

Outside of the first catch at least, when you cancel the fish your tackle wears out and bait is still used so it counts as failed
