Yep they come back to the first one in spring, and tappers do work in winter. Big mushrooms are the exception, tappers don't work on them during the winter

The food buffs are temporary and they don't give you exp, just make some stuff easier for the time limit set for the buff, you gain exp by practicing skills. Farming recieves exp from harvesting crops, caring for animals and getting their respective products with bucket/scissors
