Last night I started playing again after about a year or so. Obviously everything needed updating. I was a little rusty as it's the only game I've ever modded. I downloaded SMAPI directly from the site but it wouldn't show up. I've got a Windows laptop. Finally I used Vortex out of desperation, brought up my game & nope, still not the updated version of Smapi appearing. It seems so simple!! What did I do wrong??
After you download smapi, did you run the installer?
I thought you didn't have to do that if you were just updating?

if you decided you want to play with no mods, you will not be able to use the save you're currently playing in. if you delete some mods (not all of them), error handler (a mod that comes with smapi) will take care of it

Having a weird issue in East Scarp... This section here just shows up as weird dark lines for me... but I can't figure out what's missing? I've opened up the map in Tiled with every tilesheet it contains and that section remains red.

My game seems to keep crashing when I try to load it, I had a similar issue where my game would crash right before saving on the prior day (It only managed to save when I didn't level up farming for some reason not sure if the previous 4 crashes when I levelled it were just coincidence though), I have the Smapi log attached below, would anyone mind telling me what could be causing my game to crash please.

I had been using Kami's recolor files and thought maybe something had gotten changed but couldn't figure out what and though I redownloaded ES to compare the base tilesheets, I must've still gotten something crossed up
but this is why all the tilesheets ARE technically there but something is still missing xD

I remember a possible cause. Have you experienced character missing in the sample text, after you adjusted some of font options and the sample updated?
I think your problem is same as it.
For confirm, its characteristic is: a random part of characters are missing, but the metrics of each letter is correct. It just looks like some letters are erased.
Can you tell me if it looks like the issue I mentioned above, and how you managed to fix it? so I can improve the mod later.
Hello, I'm on Samsung S23 Ultra. Android 13. 2 directories (googleplaypass SDV= android/data) and (SMAPI SDV = mainstorage/stardewvalley) I've got SMAPI 3.18.2.2 Alpha installed, and the SMAPI game is patched and runs fine.. but most of the mods that are supposed to be compatible from ' www.smapi.io/mods ' don't actually work. How often is that site updated?

Anyone having the issue where Better Artisan Goods stopped displaying the correct icon above the Preserves Jar when finished? It used to show me the right color for each jelly I made but recently they all show up as red jelly (above the preserves jar). just accepted a new quest (Qi's skull cavern first quest) and it, as well as other quests, isnt showing up

Also, im not sure where to put this, but it seems SMAPIs installer doesnt check inside /mnt on linux? in general its fine as that dir is mostly for external drives, but can lead to having to track down the location of the SDV folder everytime theres an update

(for reference, this is a weird oddball case of having nonstandard filesystems or separate drives, in my case its just a separate ssd in the system mounted as an external for expanded storage (which probably only applies to steam deck and framework laptop users))

hey was wondering if i could get some advice, so i installed smapi and the mods required for stardew valley expanded as well as expanded itself, my game version and smapi version are up to date and ive restarted my computer but its only playing vanilla stardew, there's no errors or error logs either its just vanilla stardew, does anyone know what could be happening?

Could some outdated mods be causing my game to crash when I try to load up my coop save. I haven't updated any mods since starting my playthrough (I have added Time master and The perks of being married though) just in case one of them breaks something when I update it but could this be an issue?

It’s a file a lot of mods create when first ran, allowing you to configure the mods
Each mod creates its own in its folder
Most of them also add integration for Generic Mod Config Menu, so you usually don’t have to touch the file manually
I figured this out if anyone else runs into the issue ^.^
i just downloaded Mod Updater. The description on Nexusmods says that on Windows, the author recommends putting AutoRestart = True in config.json. Where would I find this file and where should I write it down? Thanks in advance! (Also, please tag me wheen replying, so I can find the post)
load up the game to generate config.json in the mods files, then open config.json using whatever you use to open text files and find the AutoRestart option and set it to True. Alternatively it might be compatible with Generic mod config menu in which case you can just change it there instead of having to go in the files
OK. So I gotta go in each and all of my mod folder files, search up config.json, and type that in? I apologise. I'm rather new to Stardew Valley, and just recently got into adding mods. Last week to be precise.

I know. And I don't think so? Maybe a couple... which have to do with keeping the golden scythe, in case my character dies.
So basically, the crashes were present (and very frequent) even before I got news about updating SVE.
Idk if this helps point out what the error could be, but this just happened. Thought to put it here, as I could not save it otherwise. The console shut down, as did Steam.

Hmm, there's no issue to be found in your log. Have you tried saving the day when you got the 3rd upgrade to the next day, exiting the game and opening it back up?

Is there any way to combine modded farm caves? I'm using SVE's IF2R and Lhn's farm cave. When I updated SVE, I forgot to update IF2R's farm cave but I can see that the two caves would work together if the tiles were edited slightly.
Since there seem to be more people online atm, I'd like to ask for help. My game keeps crashing, and I don't know what's causing it. I have tried for hours to fix it, but no success. no, it will just work the same as before. you dont have to update it straight away, but if its a major bug fix or content update youre interested in you may want to check it out. the author should have a changelog on the site they uploaded on explaining what has been changed, then you can make the decision for yourself to update it.

you dont need to unlock it, there should be a path leading to the cable car from the bus stop (there is also a cutscene between lewis and lenny that plays at the bus stop) if you see neither of these then ridgeside is not working. can you post a log?

So I was having some issues with Vortex management and my portrait mods, so I did a purge and tried to start over by doing manual mod additions. Well obviously I suck at it, because now my old saves wont load at all (not that big deal tbh), but when starting a new save file I can't open my menu at all now? when I say "purged" I mean apt-get install --purge on Linux
so removed every STEAM file and started anew

that specific crash, as far as I know, roughly means: "stardew is trying to communicate with steam for something and not getting a reply back. Why? 🤷 "
figured out it was a steam issue because when I pkill'ed every single steam process (and you have to go to that type of length, steam is annoying to kill) the error went away

Stardew itself runs fine (just no multiplayer) if you kill steam completely, I just ps aux | grep steam and then just killed off each process by the id XD

I have been using SMAPI and manually installing mods, they all work fine, BUT I am attempting to switch to a mod manager(Vortex) so that I don't have to do everything manually. Importing all the mods over seemed fine, but now SMAPI via Steam Launcher can't find the mods in the new Vortex folder. Most go from vortex to manual not the other way around.

Hello! I am new to modding stardew (but I am an avid skyrim modder - literally created a website all about modding skyrim...) and I am running into an issue I am hoping to get some help with. First off, modding stardew is really beginner friendly (IMO) and I am enjoying learning all about it and I think I am getting the hang of things. The weird issue I have is one of my configs is resetting when I run SMAPI and I can't see anything in the log that pops out at me. I even tried running the game with just GMCM and the mod that is having this issue (Vanilla Tweaks) and the issue persisted. A bit more info: I am using Stardrop, I am running the game via the SMAPI button in Stardrop, I have tried editing the config in Stardrop and then running the game and I have tried editing the config using GMCM; in both scenarios, it resets the next time I run the game. Any ideas? I am about to just not use Vanilla Tweaks since there are a whole lot of other retexture mods out there.
Hmmm I had the same issue recently, though I don't run through Stardrop. Try editing the config, closing the game then opening the game normally

tbh I've seen configs reset too but havent' had time to track that. Those specific resets, however, had, to do with translations.
Yeah I'm using English; I'll let you know how it goes when I try without Stardrop even installed
it actually didn't have anything to do with the translation being used, but a certain way of enabling translations on GMCM that I'm pretty bloody sure most CP mods don't do.

hi! i'm not so new to stardew modding but... i keep running into this issue every few weeks/months when i leave stardew alone for a while. smapi just refuses to open the game at all and i have no idea why. it usually stops loading at "mods loaded." and i cant find an answer online anywhere...
i have already updated all my mods, updated smapi, updated steam, reinstalled stardew itself, restarted my computer, deleted startup preferences, reinstall net 7.0, updated microsoft xna framework...

No, you do not need Nexus Premium to download any mods from Nexus - it's only if you want to download something faster, which is generally not necessary for any Stardew Valley mod. Howdy folks. I am just curious, has anyone had the time to check the error log and help me find out why my game constantly crashes?
i cant see why people think "resampling" or doing an "hd upscale" on spritework is a good idea, especially when its done in a way that just ruins most of it and does it using the wrong methods
Sm isn't only resample things, it optimizes the game load
to be honest, game load optimization only matters as a last resort, insufficient system resources, slow storage mediums, poor gpu/cpu cycles or low core counts contributes more to slowness than load timing
for example, running with a 5400rpm hdd from a decade ago with an old igpu that can barely run much and a duo core would contribute alot to said negative load performance
its better to find the actual cause than to brush it under with something optimizing it, as eventually the more stress and age that gets applied, the worse the root problem will get
I'm sorry to hear that my friend, though I'm sure it's not as bad as you think it may be. How about we ask the mod author themselves? I'm sure they can clear up the misconception.

it varies wildly depending on the person, but low ram and alot of mods (or even outside programs) could cause it
I'm hoping maybe this is something that's a known issue? A PFM Machine works with automate, but after a period of playing, the automate part stops working. The machine still works if given manual input, but the machine block just ignores a particular machine (not others, just this one machine)
Is there a limit to how many machine groups you can have with Automate?

Ah, I figured it out! So, I didn't realize that with automate, if the machine is trying to select valid input and the first input it can attempt to select is the right item but wrong quality (if the machine requires something of a certain quality level) it will prevent the machine from checking the next slot in the chest feeding the machine group!
oh. i suppose that's a bug? i mean if it's not reported already
I'm not actually sure, but my guess is it's the machine's coding. If the machine has a valid input defined, but then uses Additional Output to define what output is based on quality of input, it can get stuck:
It's sees the valid input when it checks based on the InputIdentifier, but then it doesn't do anything with it until it gets to the AdditionalOutputs where it then says that only base, silver, and gold are valid. So Iridium quality can "jam up" the production line because it gets stuck in that AdditionalOuput section trying to figure out what to do with it.
This is getting into Making Mods territory I suppose

If @lone dragon doesn't like resampling, they don't like resampling. Nothing I can say will change that (probably). Noting that resampling in SM is optional. People tend to either love it or outright hate it.
However, no amount of CPU resources is going to fix the naive n^2 scheduler implementation the game has. You can make it faster, but algorithmic complexity wins in the end here.
SM at least parallelizes it, and adds shortcutting, which makes it roughly n log n.
Noting that I implemented the load time optimizations for my benefit during debugging, and my workstation is not slow.
The game itself, in particular how it manages resources, is not well-optimized, and I must admit that as a systems engineer, to hear someone say that poor performance is not an optimization problem is a touch baffling.
The general cause of slow loading, at least, is a lack of parallelization, poor use of allocations causing GC, and rather poor algorithmic complexity. Better hardware will only help so much.
Framerate issues in the game are usually caused by either garbage collection triggering due to excess allocations (many come from MonoGame's graphics implementation), or due to mods reloading textures.
(Though there's one hitch in the game that has so far eluded me in profiling)

what's n^2 about the scheduler implementation? i've never looked at that part of the game code

It's actually a really weird Dijkstra
It took me a while to figure out how to replicate its results exactly.
It's reached the point where further path caching causes contention across scheduler worker threads and slows it down, so I've hit a wall regarding optimization there.
i guess you could replace it completely?

Right now you get the same results with or without SM

Not that I've seen. Resampling doesn't look like it's on though you can technically do identity resampling.
It's possible bilinear filtering is enabled for some reason

Well it might cause scheduling/duplication issues, but it won't crash things. I was looking into it earlier but then real life got busy

I'm more worried that this would cause NPCs to duplicate, honestly
but, yeah, you might get intermittent "NPC not following schedule"

hello! i hope someone could help me here. i play stardew on windows and i started a new save a bit ago and managed to finish the community center in the beginning of winter. its now the night market and i still havent gotten the letter from willy inviting me to his place and the door to the boat is locked. i tried looking for solutions and i found one on reddit that had something to do with marking the letter as seen in the SMAPI console, but i did that and the door is still locked. i have a feeling it might have something to do with my mods, but i don't have too many. they have varying degrees of use but my biggest one is stardew valley expanded. im aware sve has an update, but this issue is from way before the update and my internet just isnt good enough currently to update it.

Someone in the replies mentioned that what worked for them was entering into the SMAPI console "debug showmail willyBackRoomInvitation". i did so and even though smapi said "sent debug command to game, but there was no output" the letter did show up on my screen. I closed the letter and played through the rest of the day and went to bed. When I went to willys shop the next day, the door was still locked. The original poster mentioned looking up the code to the event and entering it into smapi and that worked, but I couldnt figure out how to do that.

- you correctly DO NOT have
willyboatfixedmail flag - you incorrectly DO NOT have
willyBackRoomInvitationmail flag
I believe if you give yourself the willyBackRoomInvitation mail flag, that will fix things. However, I have to go now.

Hey, im using Stardrop for mods, and whenever I change the mod settings with either mod config menu or via the config file itself, whenever I turn off SMAPI or switch profiles in Stardrop, none of the changes to the settings will stay, and instead revert back.
yeap, it's a known issue. unfortunately you'll have to uninstall stardrop for now

you'll need to redownload those mods to fix the manifest json/read the instructions in case they need to be inside another mods's folder. that being said, i dont see anything in your log that would change your character like that lol. the mods in red don't load so it can't be them

so have have dialogue expansions and shane specifically seems to be using vanilla dialogue instead as of today? for him i only have immersive shane enabled, i have other dialogue mods installed but disabled for him since i prefer immersive shane. does anyone have any ideas as to why?
