hello everyone, i downloaded this game today with my friends and im having problem with my game crashing after going to bed/sleep after a few days of starting fresh save and i am the only one having this problem. Were playing steam version without mods. My error log says "Message: Error on new day: " (can provide full logs if needed). Ive been browsing forums for about 3 hours and havent found an appropriate fix for this situation.

I bought stardew valley on pc steam yesterday but i Couldn't open it once

What I've tried:

  1. Rebooting (after most changes as well)
  2. Updating DirectX (12)
  3. Installing oalinst.exe
  4. Checking C++ (was up to date)
  5. Running xnafx40_redist setup
  6. Deleting the preferences file in the %appdata%
  7. Deleting all stardew folders and re-installing
  8. Removing both and then testing both versions of .Net
  9. Changing audio devices
  10. Plugging in headphones
  11. Validating the exception in Windows Defender

I seem to be having an issue where my animals have out of nowhere started to be "just fine". I haven't changed anything that I'm doing and they were always happy but now they aren't. It isn't winter so heaters aren't the problem, I pet them, let them out and their food is always full and then close the gates at night. I tried to keep them inside for 2 days straight and my barn animals became happy but around half of my coop animals are still just fine... does anyone know what the problem might be?

Hey all! I have a question I couldn't find the answer for from googling.

When I press Load on the startup screen of SDV, it takes forever to fetch the list of save games. I'm not sure if this is due to Steam Cloud, or corrupt save files, or whatever else! But it hangs for a long time on "Looking for Saved Games..."

It does eventually load the list after 2-3 minutes. But it's pretty excessive for just fetching the list. There's only four save files in there, I don't have a million. Any idea how I can fix this?

It looks like the game isn't communicating with steam properly. direct ip connection didn't work either. we played online before but and last time we played local co-op on my pc, she logged into her steam acc, and now we're trying to play online again.

Not sure what made your Windows Installer Service stop, but I'd suggest starting it again.
Open up CMD as admin (if you don't know where, hit the windows button and search for CMD, be sure to start it as admin)
In there first enter net stop MSIServer , then follow it by net start MSIServer then try the XNA installer again.

I can promise you, that even if you manage that, you'll still have a very broken Windows Installer Service that's fairly important to updates and whatnot. Speaking of, have you tried checking for new updates for your Windows?

Right, back to the CMD with admin rights again. This time with the commands msiexec /unreg, and after that msiexec /regserver, this can hopefully reset the connections the installer service has.

And you can leave it as is, shouldn't matter. As for the properties, nothing out of the ordinary.

Okay, bigger guns.
Once more in CMD, this command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth this should verify the image of your windows installation, the image being the thing that windows will look to when restoring things.
Which, after that's done (without errors, hopefully), use this command sfc /scannow, this will actually start the scanning, and hopefully fix any possible integrated windows program automatically with parts from the image you verified before.

I did find another few things to try, but they're fairly make or break. As in, if not done right it could break your Windows installation indefinitely, as the methods tried so far were safe in that aspect.

I personally don't think they should be done unless you're technically already ready for a reinstall/refresh of windows. So that's a decision I'll leave up to you.
As a sidenote, the very moment you're okay with reinstalling the easiest thing would simply be to reinstall, unless you think that setting up your machine the way it was with all installed programs would take more time.

Another short safe thing that can still be tried is step 5, because apparently the solution we tried before with re-registering was only a 32-bit system thing, and I'm fairly sure you're on 64 bits. x)

In that case it's another annoying thing called the "TrustedInstaller" which has ownership of the file, and bypassing that is asinine. TrustedInstaller is essentially the account that's used when safely installing things, it enjoys blocking the user, despite being an admin.
The workaround is enabling and using the system admin account and then doing those things. Not sure if you want to go that far.

Yeah, not being able to install anything will become very problematic. I'm sorry I couldn't fix it, sometimes some things are just so ingrained in the Microsoft system that fixing it manually is near impossible.

i play on ps4 and ps5 and i have a friend on ps4 and we both have stardew, but everytime we try to start multiplayer it sits there on "connecting" until saying the message "connection failed" ive tried joining him on both my consoles and hes tried joining me vice versa but it just has the same "connection failed" outcome, we both have perfectly normal internet too.

35mbps doesn't mean much if stability is low, like having a bunch of packet loss, which isn't infrequent on unstable wifi connections.

Also, if that's 35mbps down, then up would be much less, which could possibly be a problem when hosting 3 people.
This all presuming that's your download speed, and you're hosting. Solution to that would be letting someone else with better internet host.

i looked into that and it appears that all the clients have to also run a mod? and some posts on the bugs list on nexus mods saying its not working. i can give it a try and see if it helps but that doesn't help a game that has been in progress for awhile

It does seem to be very outdated. But it explicitly states: Farmhands don't need to install this mod.

I think this is the best you can do, as a lot of the game is run locally. If a mod doesn't want to be detected, it won't be. Additionally, making a manual mod that'd be called differently but does the same you could still bypass it easily.

Question for anyone who plays on dual monitors! i have a second monitor and a laptop - when i try to move the screen to my monitor, it's super tiny, when i resize it...it automatically goes back to my laptop. i've tried messing around with all of the resolution settings, but it still does it. and i don't want to do full screen (which is the only way that I can play on my monitor) - any advice?

Hello, i hope someone here can help me as i searched for a while now and can't find a solution to my problem.
I've been trying to launch SDV from Steam with no success. The game won't even start as the blue "running" button on Steam turns to the green "play" button again.
I don't even have a log in my appdata folder, but i used smapi so i could get some feedback.
apparently i have a System.BadImageFormatException: linked to 'Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll'....
So, i've already tried a lot of stuff, like:

Reinstall game (3 times)
Reboot
Steam file integrity check
Start outside steam
Start as administrator
All compatibility modes
Reinstalling XNA 4.0
Completely removed XNA 4.0 and reinstall
sfc /scannow
installing on game on C drive instead of F drive

I'm kinda of pissed right now.. just wanted to play some SD..
I'm having this same issue with Terraria, if this info helps..
Already used Dependencies but i couldn't figure out what is missing.. it tells me that i'm missing some dll that i actually have.. i'm not a tech guru by any means.. so i'm really lost here

Ah, in that case, tell your friend that you're able to simply edit the save file in a text editor (tell them to back up their save first just in case something goes wrong), then have them search for the text <minesDifficulty>, and have them change the 1 to a 0.

I originally thought it was b/c of the SVE mod since a lot of objects werent in the correct tile space but now that everything is gone, the lag still remains. So... here is the problem I have with launching the game. Every time I try opening it, a white window/screen appears that looks like this:

I've tried everything; install-uninstall, validating the game files, reinstalling everything in the _CommonRedist folder and a lot of other things. Nothing worked. Even though I know that most tutorial videos are... dodgy... thankfully there wasn't a big difference between the video I watched and what the wiki says except for that "You may need to remove .NET first" thing. So I think I am good.
Also yeah, this is pretty much what I understood from that smapi log, but I highly doubt that my memory has any problems. Even though I haven't played any high-end games for the past few months, I had no reason to suspect that I had a memory issue up until now. Idk, everything seems to be working just fine. So I guess the problem is that something is "write protected"?

I think this might have something to do with the fact that your steam (and as thus your games) are installed in your Program Files. Worst than that, the 32-bit program files.

I think that the easiest way to deal with this; but this entirely depends on how many games you have installed on your machine, is to just remove everything steam related, install steam in just C:\Steam or something, and then install your game again.

No. Everything was connected. The sound works fine for my laptop. Once I launch it to the tv through HDMI the audio remains on the laptop only for stardew. I gave up and plugged in my headphones so it would stop bugging me cause I can't figure out why only stardew refuses to use my tv audio when connected

i've seen several people online/in this chat with this issue but i haven't seen someone post a solution, let me give it a shot:

on one of my computers (not the other one), i'm having a sudden issue that only started yesterday. when using a controller with controller style menus, when i remove or add something to a chest it automatically jumps my cursor to the chest's top left (first) slot, every single time i click anything. it's incredibly annoying.

things i've tried:

  • turning controller-style menus off and then on again
  • changing my controller config file in steam's controller settings (i'm using a switch pro controller if that matters)
  • removing my mods

i have no idea what's causing this issue, i've seen other people post about it, but either nobody has a solution or they say 'oh i fixed it' but didn't tell anyone how to fix it. i'd love to know, thank you in advance if you can help

This is my first time play Stardrew co-op with one of my friends. We are trying to go to the Wizard to see him. When I go there, I load, and then it kicks me out. I've restarted my PC and Steam and my friend has mods and she took them out and it still kicks me out every time I try.

Hello. One of our players is about to get a M1 Mac. I'm on a PC, other players are on intel-based macs or PCs. I host and I'm using one mod and have SMAPI. M1 user would be a clean install from Steam, no mods.
