I think it is a bug. In the Switch CO-OP video I watched (2018), I didn’t see any pauses/freezes, especially nothing that lasted up to 5 seconds. Something has changed since then and maybe CA is unaware. Having 5 second freezing in the game every minute or two cannot possibly be just the Switch’s hardware, especially if it wasn’t present before. Pausing in a cave for 5 seconds, several times every day, has the potential to end the day each time. How are other people here handling and coping with it?

Hey guys, i need help here, because i don't really know how to get this issue fixed.
When i start my game (either the vanillia exe or SMAPI) it just fades to black and then minimizes and i just can't "open" it. Tried reinstall the full game, SMAPI, thinking modding issue. I just don't know (after SMAPI there should be no issue etc.).
Never had that issue before but started happening after January/February time.
My game is the GOG version, got dual monitor (144hz, 2550/1440).
After a google search they suggest it "might" be a resolution issue (but i had no issue with that before now). If it is.... i got legit no clue on how to change that outside of the game... need help here :/

Tried reinstalling redistributables? And a graphic driver update? Additionally, when it's minimized, does it do anything when clicked? Finally, tried disabling your AV?

Thing is, it's likely a program on your computer intercepting focus somehow, forcing the game to minimize once it goes fullscreen. An alternative solution would be editing the config file to start it in windowed mode.

Could try that, if it helps, if not. Then i am kinda lost on what program is doing that. Only happens in Stardew Valley :/
Is the config file in the main folder or hidden somewhere in appdata etc. ?

Okay did that. Issue is (at least for me) that the game kinda "kills" itself if you do anything in the settings regarding resolution.
Did the edit in the files to the true resolution (2550-1440).
Started the game again and it worked, but i am not allowed to do anything in the graphic settings ingame or the issue returns, so no working on resolution settings or well.... the minimize issue happens and then... rince & repeat

i'm on PC and use mods, some of which haven't been updated for UI scaling so have the same issue, and i just have to switch it while placing things/using the specific mod and then change it back. my eyesight's also terrible haha

Hello, I'm not sure 100% what but i sorta messed around with the zoom settings and fullscreen resoulution etc, (to try and see more of the map) but now whenever I try to open it t has black bars on the side then minimizes with a white flash.

idk stardew valley co-op kinda sus, yesterday the invite a friend code thing wasn't on my firend's settings menu and he had to restart the game up so many times he did some weird crap like turning off activity status and rebooting his pc, going offline then back online and the only solution he found was disconnecting his keyboard SDVgoat

All "solutions" are nothing but placebo (to this MP bug anyway). The only thing that matters is restarting the game until it works. I could go start telling people to spin circles 7 times, tap their left pinky toe, and then start the game and it could work.

Not sure about the character bugging into something (haven't had that yet with 500+ hours), but when it comes to crashing and starting the game please realize that it's impossible to test all programs in existence that might clash or otherwise mess with the game, like AV's, or other programs that run in the background doing who knows what.

Wellp, seems like more people have that issue, it seems to have been triggered by multiple people activating the shrine at once. Doesn't seem to be a fix for it, other than perhaps creating a mod to fix it.

There might be one other thing to try. Back up your save first. Then open it in a text editor (like notepad), search for mineShrineActivated, and presuming it's currently on true, put it on false and save, then boot the game.
If that doesn't work you could send me your save and I could look through it and maybe find another oddity.

Hello! I bought Stardew Valley last night, and whenever I attempt to open the game, it provides me with a blank, white, Stardew Valley screen before the game closes itself. Essentially, the game crashes upon launch, but with no error messages.

I have already made efforts to fix this via research - such as running the program as administrator, deleting the Startup Preferences file, verifying the file integrity, downloading XNA files which i think i may be missing, and restarting my computer when none of that worked.
I had even renamed a file on steam and restarting steam to see if that would regenerate files, but nothing had changed.

I am open to suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Hi all, Im trying to play Stardew valley again but the game cant launch via Steam 😦 I tried reinstalling Steam, the game, verifying game data, running microsoft XNA, reinstalling DirectX and removing startup preference already but none of them work. Does anyone have any other suggestions 😦

whenever i open it it says "preparing to launch stardew valley" when i try through steam, my cursor has the hourglass next to it, and then the game just doesn't open. on steam the button goes from "stop" to "play" again. i've tried

  • making sure my launch options field is blank
  • plugging in headphones

when i tried to open it there was an error message that came up that said that smapi couldn’t find the game. i just decided to uninstall to not deal w the hassle and then noticed there had been a patch to the game so i tried downloading smapi again in case there had been an update but it said it didn’t have the xna framework installed and that i need to run the game so it can perform first-time setup so i uninstalled the game too but i think that made it worse and that error message still pops up when i try to reinstall smapi

What seems to work for me is if SMAPI only has LAN, I launch the original game through steam and check if it has the invite code. When it does, I close original game and open SMAPI afterwards and it shows both LAN and INVITE CODE.

some updates: i tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didnt work again and i reinstalled the c++ stuff. i was poking around in the appdata and found some error logs tho and it says

when i try to redownload it it says i already have the xna framework installed (will send screenshot shortly)

Make sure you have speakers or headphones plugged in. (They can be muted, but the game needs a working audio device.)
If you play on Windows:
Install (or reinstall) .NET Framework 4.5.2 and XNA Framework 4.0

I have SMAPI installed, it cannot boot through that either. I try to find the crash logs, but when I do the search through the run prompt with "%appdata%\StardewValley\ErrorLogs" I get a prompt saying that the Error Logs cannot be found.

This Multiplayer bug is really getting out of hand. I reported this bug a week or two ago. You launch a Multiplayer game but can't invite friends. At the first time this bug occured for me, checking the game files worked. This time it worked again, however, the person I invited did not get into the game after clicking the invitations. We then tried to do it with the code, but as soon as you click on the "show code" option, it sets your screen to a size as if you would play in low res window mode. There is no way to fix this except restarting. And at this we are back to "verify your files" phase 1

I literally cannot launch the game. I have tried everything on the wikis and it just won't launch, I've had stardew since 2018 and have still not been able to get it to run. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted multiple times. I click play, it pauses for a few seconds, and then it shows the play button again. Stardew never even opens itself ever.

Maybe it's just bad luck? If the code is similar to the PC version, which it usually is, the game throws a random double and it has to be less than 0.005 or it won't drop it.
