So I’ve run into a problem where Gunther is not giving me the rusty key. At this point i’ve donated 69 items so i’m not sure what’s going wrong. Editing the file isn’t an option because i’m playing on a switch, and i haven’t found a clear solution yet searching online (bc most of what i find mentions issues with mods). With smapi you can force achievements on steam that break like that, and do make sure that you have the steam overlay on otherwise achievements sometimes don't work

basically i went to my character SDV file and deleted everything between the two achievement parameters, and when i loaded up the game it basically forced the game to give me every achievement again

Some people have reported that verifying integrity of game files and/or starting a different game entirely that has multiplayer (like CS:GO or something) and going back to stardew has fixed it for them.

hmmmm, incase you couldn't play multiplayer but you could LAN, hamachi or zerotier could be considered an option as a temporary solution ?

hamachi is basically like a program that allows you make virtual private networks or something like that (VPN) and if someone joins with you to a room your computer with stardew valley would recognize it as LAN

Well I was able to fix the multiplayer bug on my end, my problem was running stardew modded. Once I deleted the file path thing on steam for the launch options, everything ran fine.

Keep in mind that you should only use hamachi if you are playing with friends you trust. do not use this to play with strangers. By doing this you are exposing yourself to a bunch of vounerabilities and essentially letting people into your home network is never a good idea.

hosting a LAN game will work if you're on the same network as your friend or if you're using some other program to connect to eachother (not that i recommend using a third party program to connect or anything)

So I looked through some chat history and I see there's been some issues with online as of lately, I wanted to see if I could get any more information than what I found so far.

To start, I'm using SMAPI and Content Patcher to load some visual-only mods and was using online without issues 2 days ago.

Then yesterday, I go to host online and I don't get an invite code and some buttons are missing from my multiplayer settings (I read in the wiki this can happen if stardew cannot connect to your steam account). When I launch the game purely vanilla without the SMAPI launcher, online works again.

Today I decided to research a bit further as to why online isn't working with SMAPI and Content Patcher and in following the steps on the wiki, I turned off antivirus and firewall and I see my invite code and my multiplayer buttons, which is great, but I'd rather not play with my antivirus and firewall turned off... Does anybody know what exactly could be causing this issue so I can fix it more selectively than turning off everything?

some people have reported changing your steam chat from online to invisible and then back to online before starting the game fixed this issue

An issue seems to have been arising that people can't find or join other people their games. Only working fix so far seems to be restarting the host's computer.

FYI for anyone having issues with Steam (and maybe Galaxy) multiplayer, it's possible to bypass the Steam connection by connecting to the host via a virtual LAN. The host needs to use the LAN multiplayer option, and turn on "Connect via IP". You can also open/forward the host server port on your router, if you have admin control over that, but using a user-friendly program VPN/tunneling/VLAN program like Hamachi is probably a better bet for most people.

Not 'cause it's super technical or anything, just because messing with port visibility for your router can have some bad side effects if you don't know what you're doing.
VLANs on the other hand are pretty use friendly and generally if you screw up, they just won't work

Getting invited/accepting an invite to play co-op doesn't seem to work right now if the game isn't already open (Steam). Accepting an invite just takes you through the intro and to the main screen and then stays there.

It does work as before if the game's already running though.

If you're playing with IRL friends it's fine. I haven't noticed anything shady about their privacy policy, assuming there hasn't been some scandal I missed, and it's a better bet for the average user than the risks associated with tampering with port access controls on your router.

It's not about Hamachi themselves. It's about it bypassing several integrated and important security features. Anyone who has the right tools can install whatever they like on your computer when they have a Hamachi connection.

Only use it with people you 100% trust. They can literally hijack your computer without you noticing it.

And it's not just Hamachi, it's any of the virtual LAN connection programs. It's outright dangerous.

Hey, I'm using SMAPI 3.9 and stardew 1.5, and trying split screen (local) co-op. We've plugged in switch controllers to my laptop, but the game thinks that they're supposed to control P1, so pressing the button that normally joins a new player instead just cancels the "press button to join" screen. I've tested both with mods installed, and with no mods, so I think it's something with SMAPI itself, not any particular mod, since I don't have the problem running the game vanilla. It does work using non-local co-op, but we like playing split-screen.
Any suggestions?
