Hi. Ive been getting back into stardew valley recently and Ive noticed that im getting a lot of frequent lag spikes. They arent anything major, just little jumps in time. Things freeze for like half a second, return to normal, happens again, have normal gameplay for a few seconds. It doesnt affect my gameplay too much but I find it really annoying. Any ideas on how to fix this?

alright so 9/10 times i open my game, it doesnt have any sound. this has been happening since before the update, but got worse after the update. i read up on it a bit and apparently this glitch was fixed in 1.4.5? but i still get it. if it helps, im on a new windows computer and the first version ever installed on this computer was 1.4.5. anyone know what could be causing this?

hey so i'm playing on 1.5, with mods and remixed loot, and when i got to level 20 in the mines, i clicked the chest and got an elf blade. after i added the elf blade to my chest inventory, i clicked the chest again and it vanished. is that supposed to happen or is it a bug

Try pressing the Windows + R key, which should pop up a "run" dialogue box, then paste
%AppData%/StardewValley
into the box. A folder should then open; try deleting startup_preferences.

You could also try just loading into a game and changing the resolution from the in game options.

@glacial skiff from the crash log you posted on the forums, it appears to be some kind of file permissions issue. Make sure you have the correct permissions on your computer to read/write files from %appdata%/StardewValley/Saves and also that there is no external programs (like anti-virus software) interfering with Stardew Valley

Tried getting help in mods, but we're not seeing that it's a mod issue? Basically Willy is struggling. If I need to keep trying for mod support I will, but wanted to ask again in case anyone might have seen this issue as well.

Here he is at the end of every day hanging out on the LITERAL corner of the building. I mean, if Willy is a hooker now, go Willy, but I don't see that being his style.

Make sure you clear your launch options in Steam. If you're on Windows and have ever installed SMAPI, you would have needed to set them. To do that:

  1. Right click Stardew Valley in your game library.
  2. Click "Properties"
  3. In the general tab, there should be a place where your launch options/start parameters are set (either with a "set launch options" button or just hanging out there without a button). Erase anything there and try again.

If that still doesn't work, try taking a screenshot of the error you're seeing so we can have a better idea of what you mean!

okay, that's not a great idea to do--if you've used mods on a save before, it will most likely have issues in vanilla. you can send those top two files just to see, but i would recommend using a brand new save if you want to play in vanilla

you can kind of hack it by just maximizing the screen and stretching it wide enough to cover both screens

if either of the monitors is ultra-wide or maybe even 4k, you might want to drop down the resolution, because XNA (the framework we use for the game) doesn't work correctly when the screen is too wide

I haven't specifically tried that, but it seems to be a problem on my end since the other players have been able to connect. I can input an invite code but it always says connection failed.

I was thinking it may have to do with ports, we opened the UDP port 24642 but I haven't found anything on whether that's the same for outbound or whether that is different. Theoretically it could be a different problem, but I always go to firewall stuff since ours is complicated.

@chrome sandal @solemn rock Just to clarify since I didn't see this part specifically mentioned, you do not need to run Stardew Valley from Steam. It is DRM free and doesn't even check if you have multiple copies running or anything like that (so you can MP with yourself if you want). That's the only reason people are able to do stuff like rename their whole game folder in 1.4 to keep it using mods, then update to 1.5 fresh to have both, for example :)

You have to update or install through Steam since that's how you have the game installed and how it delivers files to you, but you don't need to run it from Steam once you have it installed.

(So if the files are anywhere in any folders, you can still run it from there, but if you deleted the game files themselves along with the folders...)

heyaa, I need help :'D, so basically, I open steam, and go to library, and click on play SDV, it starts up, but no screen pops up, and it basically closes itself off, and it does this every time I click on play, whether I open it from my home screen off steam, or in my program files x86, nothing works, I've also re-downloaded my game multiple times still nothing, I had mods before, but I deleted all of them, I've also deleted my launch options for smapi that we're there before, and still nothing

Hey y'all, newbie here asking for help! My game has been crashing whenever I exit my house and head towards the cave/greenhouse, first showing the map without any buildings, trees, decoration, player sprites, etc. and showing a screen of just the ground textures before shutting down completely. I thought it was because the farms I was loading up used a map mod that I hadn't updated, but even after updating all my mods and removing the obsolete ones, I still run into this issue on all my save files. I suspect this could be a mod issue, but I'd like to rule out any problems with the game first ❤️ Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Ah, unfortunately there's only the last save to choose from if you aren't backing backups or using mods or anything like that. It's just a running game :) On the other hand, there shouldn't really be any mistakes you can make that lock you out of anything, just take a bit more time to recover from resource-wise!

  1. Press the Windows and R buttons at the same time.
  2. In the 'run' box that appears, enter this exact text:
    %appdata%\StardewValley\ErrorLogs

There should be a file in there you can upload here.

I think we know what it will say, but just to make sure it is the same as a previous log. (Did any files fail to validate when you reset, by the way?)

I was just trying this on my game and got the game to crash when I set it to spanish in a quick test! We passed it on to the devs but in the meantime you might want to try switching your game to another language like English just long enough to get past that scene and see if that helps (or wait for an update if it ends up needing one :) )

it's a known bug with the german version right now. It will be fixed in an upcoming patch, but for now the way to get past it is to set the game to english for 1 day, finish that quest, then after you've saved that night, you can go back to german and keep playing

I'm having trouble with Birdie's quest. When she tried to give me the initial item (war memento) my inventory was full and I didn't immediately get it and she wouldn't offer it to me again afterwards.

I tried using the sampi console to get the item instead, but the first npc involved doesn't react well to it, even though her quest is in my log.

since you're using mods i'd say to try first without mods before reporting it as a bug. if you head to #archived-modded-support, we can give you some pointers about how to maybe fix it that way. easiest thing though is to reset the day or revert your save

Hi! I haven't been playing stardew for a while and logged back on just recently and when I went to load my farm up I lost around 2 seasons worth of progress. @peak osprey unfortunately, despite trying to spawn the quest item with CJB instead as advised, still same result from the quest npc; just treats it as a hated gift instead of a quest item.

Issue persists if I remove SMAPI altogether and launch the game without mods. I'm pretty sure something went wrong because my inventory was full when I was supposed to get the quest item - even though its in the quest log.

I can't talk to her again; during this initial stage of the quest she does into her little hut and you cant follow her in.

When you complete enough steps she comes back outside I think.

@peak osprey deleting the quest in the save wasn't difficult in itself at all. But the NPC who gives the quest is still gone from the beach so I can't start it over either. Unfortunately I don't have a pre-quest save I can compare it to easily so the save-editing method seems non-trivial.
