alright, so apologies it's taken such an incredibly long time to really get your fall submissions queued for the blog. it's been a really busy season, and when i have time (i.e. right now) tumblr decides to freak out and refuses to queue anything at all. this isn't the first time this has happened, so i'm sorry to anyone who was patiently waiting for their submissions to go up.

for the next event, i will probably queue submissions as soon as we get permission so i don't have to spend forever sorting them out(which also took a really long time, not as much thanks to some help!) and i think in the future we might figure out some better ways to sort out sharing all the cool stuff y'all do.

OKAY everything's been queued. More than likely they'll show up way after Christmas since we have other stuff in the queue, but hopefully that'll be alright. Having spooky stuff in the winter can be fun too!

The RESULTS! ARE! IN!!!!!

Before we begin, let's go over a few things:

1.) Remember to be a good sport! This event is for fun, even if there are prizes. Please be courteous of the other participants and keep the mood up! Foul attitudes towards winners/rule breaking behaviors may prevent you from participating in the next event.

2.) We're handing out prizes a little differently this time; the winners that get games will be added to a channel with additional instructions, so stay tuned for that.

14 days of kindness challenges, and tons of participation! Thanks everyone for kind words, gifts, decor, and more. While this task was just for fun, there were still lots of great submissions, so here are some samples from the many entries from this task:

@hidden spade really went above and beyond for Sebastian's birthday, this year. Seb needed the best. So kind.

After having married Sebastian in early fall, I set out to plan for his in winter. I dug up a billion worms just to find artifacts to donate to the museum so I could get a key into the sewers, and from their, I saved up some cash to get a void egg. Give it to Seb? No. He needed the best. Frozen tears and sashimi? He gets those all the time, he needed something special. So I took the egg home, put it in the incubator, and hatched it. Then I cuddled and hugged my void chicken every day until it produced the most beautiful eggs. On the day of Sebastian's birthday I went to the coop and collected on of those eggs, cleaned it and prepped it, and offered it to my wonderful husband who gleefully accepted. It was worth all the effort.```

If @remote pawn were a junimo, she'd keep special company for a mouse close to myall our hearts...

if i were a junimo, I'd love to live somewhere near the hat mouse's lil hut, probably inside a crevice in the cliffside! if a nice person came to help me out, i'd give them a big hug and a special fruit, either starfruit, sweet gem berry or ancient fruit!

I also appreciated @gleaming jewel's pacifist run, for having only made it a few floors and losing a cave carrot because of not sacrificing Linus's grapes 😄 Day 7: I’ve done this for three floors. From 52 to 55... I had no health left / no snackies. (I wasn’t about to eat Linus’ grapes, those are for him.) so I made it to floor 55. Then died because a bat just happened to spawn with me and killed me. I lost a geode, some stone, and a cave carrot I was carrying for a bundle (or was it a delivery? I forget.)

(Stardrop snowflakes, pixel snowflakes, sketchy snowflakes, neon snowflakes, even a snowflake generator and a RL folded snowflake that looked like it came from a wedding magazine SDVpufferchickcry ) I have picked out some to bask in the warm glow of extra internet points...

Hey everyone, we've had questions about how we are moderating conversations relating to Covid-19. Rule 1 pretty much covers it, but we wanted to give some examples:

  • Mentioning or thoughtfully discussing impact on daily life, such as closures or cancellations.
  • Sharing informational resources when relevant.

🟡 Tread carefully 🟡

  • Light hearted jokes or memes. Rule 1 still applies: Be respectful and sensitive. You may not personally be affected, but we have members from around the world, of all ages and many walks of life.

🔴 To be avoided 🔴

  • Heavy conversations that are dark/bleak.
  • Provocative content, whether links or comments (if the intent is just to cause a reaction, this is trolling, like with any other subject), controversial topics.
  • Black humor, edgy jokes, content that disparages or attacks groups of people (eg race, age group, country of origin, political party...)

We can't reasonably expect it not to come up in the server, just keep in mind that Stardew Valley is a chill and relaxing game, and we want to keep our server a friendly place to visit even during stressful times. We'll be keeping an eye out and will adjust if needed - please feel free to message @strange ruin for feedback or to ask if a particular message/topic is okay, or to report something you feel is inappropriate!

Hey, fellow farmers! SDVpuffercowboy

In the wake of everything that's happening now, we (the Junimos) have felt it worth to provide some advice and reminders on what to do during the current pandemic.

As of right now there is no vaccine, so it's our job as a community to inhibit the spread from progressing further. With the ongoing illness and quarantine, it would be good for us to keep these pointers in mind.

#

1. Avoid being exposed. It's most commonly spread via person to person, so exercising a distance of 6 feet is advisable.

2. Please stay at home. If you can afford to stay home, please do so. If you have to go out (for buying essentials or whatnot), please avoid gatherings as much as possible.

3. Exercise rigorous hygiene. Keep your hands clean and to yourself, more often than you normally would. If you've been out in public, coughed, sneezed, or blown your nose, it is best to wash your hands again. Normal soap and water for 20 seconds or hand sanitizer until dry are both effective methods. For additional protection, keep surfaces clean and disinfect daily. Things that you touch a lot, such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, phones, keyboards, toilets, sinks, and any other frequently-used areas is very important. Besides, a lot of us are trapped at home so at least it gives us something to do.

4. If you're already sick, please distance yourself. Self isolate as you are at higher risk. Make sure to cover your sneezes and coughs, whether or not you have a confirmed test. Discard used tissues to the trash, and always wash your hands immediately after coughing or sneezing. (A handy piece of advice would be to cough/sneeze in your elbow instead of your hands.) Wear a face mask if you have to socialize- they're more useful in preventing the spread if you're infected, than if you aren't.

There is of course the mental stress to deal with. A few simple coping methods:

• Take breaks from news around the pandemic. Constant exposure can be upsetting.
• Take care of yourself. Take deep breaths, stretch, or relax. Try to eat healthy, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep(even if it's not on time), and avoid alcohol and drugs.
• Make time to yourself. Induldge in activities and hobbies you like.
• Connect. Talk to people about your concerns and how you're feeling.

Baring these things, there are of course guidelines for every area and country. So when in doubt, just check your local governments advisory for information on COVID-19.

We hope these tips help, and above all, please stay safe.

Residents of Pelican Town have revolted against Joja Corporation and forced a cancellation of the buyout. All Joja company signage is being removed from this space, and the local Joja corporation offices (formerly the Junimo Daycare) will soon be converted into a more community-friendly area. Hey everyone, some of you may have noticed a new bot on the City Council - we have (okay, aquo has) been working behind the scenes to migrate most of Mayor Lewis's features to a new bot! After many years of public service, our dutiful Mayor has finally decided to retire. With him gone, a new elected official is here to take his place. Just like the old bot, Governor will track user XP, give you roles when you reach a high enough level, and help out around the server! Most of the old commands should work, and your levels/xp/ranks have carried over :) Keep in mind that not everything is the same, the badges are gone for example, but we've worked hard to make sure that the change isn't too jarring! One last thing, there will be a leaderboard - at the same web address, but it hasn't quite been carried over yet. Stay tuned for that!

Only 16% have participated in a server event-- we think it might be because so many of you are newer to the server! However, this is a good chance to say that our Spring event is very soon! :) We typically @ everyone on our big events (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) while we don’t ping for mini events (Valentines, Penny’s School, Joja Warehouse, etc.).

I’d like to follow #bulletin-board’s announcement feature for game updates, but it contains a lot of stuff that ISN’T game updates.
We actually only publish game-related information out using the announcement feature! So you might see free games, PSAs, or event posts in #bulletin-board, but ONLY Stardew Valley related information will show up in your server. We’re also looking into more ways to make #bulletin-board cleaner, allowing everyone to get the information they want to see the most! We recently started pushing @eternal umbra to post all the free games that day, which makes the channel a lot smoother. (We're also talking about other ways to make sure everyone doesn't miss the information they want)

#vanilla-tech-support is a great place to go for help with an issue you’re having with the game! The devs check this channel from time to time, and there are normal members that can point you in the right direction.

I feel overwhelmed and I feel like I can’t talk in the server!
This is a problem that unfortunately comes with larger servers, and it’s not an easy problem to fix! But we do have some plans in the near future that should help redistribute the most active channels and make the flow of channels much easier/more digestible. We hope you like what we’ll do next!

We also wanted to take the time to remind everyone that we have a server mod mail, @strange ruin. Please message him when you encounter ANY problem in the server and it will be sent to all staff members. This is the BEST way to send your issues to staff, since it gives all staff members the ability to read your problem and react quickly. We prefer DMing Bouncer/pinging the Junimo role over pinging/DMing individual staff members-- just because a staff member is online, doesn’t mean they’re currently watching the chat!

We look into everything that gets messaged to us and we handle reports anonymously, i.e. if you report someone for harassment, they will not know they were reported or that you reported them. We understand it can be scary to report an issue, but user reports can give us important information and clarification in tricky situations. We take all reports, even if the report is about DMs or an off-server situation. We can’t guarantee resolving off-server reports, but gathering information is important and helps us gauge what we can do next, as well as what we can do to prevent similar situations. Even if it is a small issue to you, please report it. It helps the entire server.

We are looking into more ways to make reporting more accessible and comfortable for others as well.

Citizens of Pelican Town have recently noticed the environment slowly turning into an interesting shade of blue. Its spreading has been rapid as of late, which is cause for concern among residents. Mayor Lewis has addressed the worries and announced that it's part of Project Blurple; an event made to celebrate Discord's birthday. "Let's enjoy the hues of blue and purple until May 13th", he said.

Hey guys, we're undergoing some changes for the server, lots of re-arranging and some new additions along the way too! These changes are not concrete, however we will let you know when we're done moving everything around. Consider the current changes a work-in-progress, though what we did add so far we feel pretty confident about keeping.

We added a new category, the Gameplay category. It contains a new channel, #stardew-valley , which is a spoiler-free Stardew Valley discussion channel. #stardew-valley has been changed to #stardew-spoilers, where the rules itself haven't changed but discussing endgame content is allowed in there.

#farms-and-outfits and #multiplayer-lfg-old have been moved down to the Gameplay category. #town-square is all alone right now, but won't be forever!

We have more changes, namely channel name changes and a bit more potential rearranging to do. We understand these changes will be a bit to get used to at first, but ultimately we felt this was the best route to go. Thanks for your patience and hope you like our upcoming changes as well. :)

The "off-topic" category has been renamed to "misc"! The channels haven't changed, still the same rules as before.

We have added a new channel in the misc category, #706618657974911050 ! We will post files that recap all the fond memories of our events in here from now on :)

Okay guys, here are the last batch of changes:

Sewers has been renamed to #images-and-memes -- we felt people often had negative connotations with sewers, especially when they are told to post their images there. We've changed it to make it clearer on what the channel is for. Anything as long as it fits with the rules is allowed in there!

Mayor's house has finally been changed to make room for the #governors-mansion -- Since governor lives there now, he needed a place to live!

We have also discussed on moving the Gameplay category up above Community, but we have decided to keep it as-is. This may not be permanent, but for now we're going to see how the flow of the channels go.

With these last changes, we will be updating #445729591533764620 at last to reflect them. It still may take a while for the changes to show up, but they will be there!

Thanks again for all your patience as we rearranged A LOT. I know it might be weird for some of you for a while, but we think this will be better for the community moving forward! Thank you for all your feedback and your reflections in the survey, since they helped us a lot in that regard too. We hope you continue to have fun and enjoy your time in the server!

Hey everyone, we just did some minor reorganizing with roles. Voice chat is back to being something you get access to at level 10, now tied to a new role called Cowpoke SDVpuffercowboy
We tweaked all level role colors a bit to make room for this change!

The requirements for Artisan are something we get a lot of questions about, so we've also nailed down the exact things we're looking for to make earning it less subjective:

  • Must be level 25
  • Must be active in creative channels in the last 30 days
  • Must have two art pieces posted in #creative, at least one of them pinned in #art-gallery

This isn't a big change, but we hope is a clearer guideline both for people wanting to earn and keep the role, and for us when handing it out and cleaning up.

Hi everyone,

Everyday we still get a ton of reports about people getting DM'd by scammers trying to get their steam account info. These scams can take many forms, but here's a few rules of thumb:

  1. Steam admins/moderators will never contact you through discord.

  2. If a link asks you to log in, don't. Only log in on the steam app, steam desktop app or steam site (regarding the site, be wary of fake links people might send you as well)

If you haven't already, download the steam mobile app and activate 2-factor authentication on your account. It will make it harder for someone to log into your account even with the password.

If you receive any DMs from scammers, send @Bouncer#9811 a screenshot of the message and block the person. Report the scammer to discord as well.

Wow, we're at 100,000 members! I would say I'm speechless, but we all know I'm very chatty, so I'm just going to accept this and continue:

Words really can't describe how extremely proud I am of this community and how blessed I feel to be a part of it. Believe it or not, I was a very shy person and I did not involve myself in many community spaces. I was terrified to speak and scared of judgment. I was just a normal community member, but I was so in love with Stardew Valley, its world, and its characters, that I participated in the community. I first began speaking in this server on October 5, 2016 and in April 23, 2021 I still have trouble stopping. Like the game and what it brought, I fell in love with what all of you brought here and I eventually became a person who makes sure you have as good of a time as I do. I have never experienced so much love and kindness in a space before, and over time I have only grown to love Stardew Valley and this server more. We had a couple thousand members in 2016, and we reached 5,000 members in 2017 which blew us away at the time. It's 2021 and 100,000 of you are here now with us.

Hi everyone,

We regularly receive reports about people getting DMed by scammers trying to gain access to their Steam account. We've talked about this before, but unfortunately it's an ongoing issue and we know there are many new people on the server. Scams can take many forms, but here are a few rules of thumb:

  • Companies like Steam will never contact you about account issues through Discord.

  • If a link asks you to log in, don't. Only log in on the Steam app, Steam desktop app or Steam site (regarding the site, be wary of fake links people might send you as well).

  • Don't buy a gift card for someone. This is one of the most common ways someone will scam you.

  • If you haven't already, download the steam mobile app and activate 2-factor authentication on your account. This will make it significantly harder for anyone to gain control of your account. For instructions on enabling 2FA, see https://www.howtogeek.com/328227/.

  • If you receive any DMs from scammers, send @strange ruin a screenshot of the message and block the person. Report the scammer to Discord as well.

Finally, here's an example of what the scam usually looks like. (Scammers identify your Steam account by checking your Discord profile):

Hi Everyone,

Another form of steam scam seems to have appeared which we would like to bring to your attention.
The scam this time is an innocent looking post about a free game/bundle.
The link will heavily resemble a real steam link to a store product, usually with one or two typos.
We would like to remind you all that you shouldn't trust any steam links about free steam items/games, unless posted by us in bulletin board.

A few good rules of thumb are:

  1. Check any link before clicking it, most links will contain typos. Even then, some links can be faked by replacing a letter in the link with an identical looking character, thats why:
  2. Look up the product yourself instead of blindly following links. If someone advertises a free bundle, it will be displayed on any of it's items store pages. Check to see if it's really there.
  3. Enable two factor authentication. Most phishing links only ask for your username and password. Scammers can't do anything with those if you have two factor authentication enabled.
    With the increased number of phishing links and password database breaches we see today it is highly recommended you start using this wherever you can. If you believe you've fallen victim to a phishing scam, simply change your password to be sure but with two factor authentication you should be safe.

Lastly, we'll include an example of the scam in question.
Note that steam is spelled "stem" in the link and there's mention of limited supply, something that does not happen with free steam games.

Hey everyone, I have a few announcements to make. There's some good news and some bad news.

Bad news first: We planned to do a really fun Q&A about our survey results and take some time to clarify and have a ton of great stats put into it, however some things came up and we cannot do it the way we want without a significant delay. For that reason, We'll delay the survey results and make it a really fun occasion at a later date (ETA a month from now, but time may change).

And now... the good news: Congrats to those who guessed it! Our next Summer Event is coming out on July 30... and it's a team event! We had a lot of fun with our last one last Fall and we're really excited to bring back team events for y'all at the end of this month. The event will not be as long as the other one but it will be just as fun if not more. The event ends on August 20, so you will have plenty of time to join in on the festivities. We do everyone pings for this! We don't abuse the ping system, but we do use it for big announcements and server events.

Hey guys, as you no doubt have noticed, recently we've had six staff members step down. Before we make some big conspiracies, there's no drama or anything, it's just that many are going to focus on stuff not the server and it's much more important than here. Everyone who left did so amicably and we love & support each and every one of them. People don't really know this much, but moderating really is hard work and it takes a lot of our time (and even our patience) to run sometimes. This is a very big server and we wish we were real junimos, but we're just humans with internet access. Thank you for all of your patience with us, and thank you for being so kind and understanding.

I also want to personally say that I have been owner of this server for many years, and for most of the time I've been owner, the worst drama we've had is handling the odd troll. The team has been so loving and accepting, so wonderful, and I honestly think of them as my family. I am so proud of all of them-- both ex-staff and current staff, old staff and new staff. This is such a special community to me and I feel so lucky that I'm a part of it and that I get to work alongside some amazing people.

There is another special event (not the kind you're thinking) coming up soon. No details yet. Stay tuned for that :)

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give a heads up and a reminder with how this server runs.

It's okay to ping the Junimo role if you believe something needs our attention as moderators!
This is a huge server and though there are a lot of staff members, we can't all catch something happening. If someone broke a rule, if someone needs help about something server-related, if things are getting dicy and you think Bouncer is too subtle, feel free to ping the Junimo role. As with everything in the server, don't ping us unnecessarily, but you will not be warned if you jump the gun about something, or if you ping accidentally. Let it be known that we judge every situation accordingly-- if you purposefully ping the role just to say hi or to troll, we will notice.

At the end of the day, we make the role pingable for a reason. We're here if you need help. If you feel pinging Junimo is too loud, please message @strange ruin with your concerns. Hey everyone! I'll be reposting the server results here since it is the end of the stage event, and I'll be recapping some of the things we talked about. This is being posted here since the channels are probably not gonna stick around, but we want you to have access to our statistics!

Overall we had 4,257 responses to a server-wide survey which is A LOT compared to what we got our previous survey!

How can we improve server events?
This was a write-in question, so I'll go over what we talked about in the stage event.

  • There is a lot of emphasis on more variety, less art-focused tasks. We mentioned how, for big events we try to have one art and one mod task, but we can definitely add more things in that don't require those skills. We talked a bit about inclusion of games like picross, as well as bringing more in-game features into the game. We mentioned how in the past we've done a house design type event and I mentioned how I would love to bring that back in especially after the 1.5 update

  • We reminded everyone that we only use the @ everyone ping for 2 things: significant game updates (like 1.4 and 1.5) and our server events. If you don't want to miss out on server events, please enable the ping here! We rarely use the everyone ping and we know it can get annoying for places to ping all the time.

  • We go into how, to keep stress down and to make sure people keep having fun, we're only going to do 1 or 2 big events a year, as opposed to our seasonal approach of events. This may affect roles in the future as well, and nothing is truly set in stone, but for now we may do smaller events (one-day events, one-task events, etc.) in between the big events.

  • Event coordinators came up here as well. As we figure out server events, we may include them but for now we're just working on what we can do to make it the most fun for members but not stressful for the people managing the event

  • I mentioned how team events draw in a ton of people and are our most popular event, but they can be really hard to manage too. We want to continue events like this, but we're changing our approach which is one reason why we'll be doing less events

How can we increase your comfort?
This was a write-in question as well! Some points:

  • A lot of people mentioned they're introverted so it was not something they could help with. I spoke for a bit coming from a perspective about how I used to be a new member and that sometimes it takes just throwing yourself into a conversation, and I brought up #town-square as a place where it seems like everyone is friends (and plenty of people are) but a lot of new people come in there and end up making connections. We try to keep the place welcoming to everyone, however it is totally fine if you prefer to lurk-- just know we don't bite!

  • I mention that events are a great way for people to include themselves and is one reason we will continue to do events even if we may not be doing as many as we used to

  • A point about staff and attitudes (casual vs moderating voices) came up here but I'll be lumping this in with the next write-in question since it's moderation related

  • Mostly people are fairly comfortable with the server which is great! Please give us any suggestions that can increase your comfort anytime by messaging Bouncer (I end up repeating this a lot in the stage channel hahahaha)

How can the server improve?

  • Lumped in with the moderation rating, a lot of people in this question explained their reasoning for giving us a 3 which I was fairly pleased with. A lot of people who clarified they voted 3 did so out of not seeing our moderation or being lurkers, so the surveys point to us doing a decent job :D

  • Addressing a previous question, there was a comment about staff attitudes during the pride event. I took this time to talk about how you will never get warned/banned for criticizing staff and sharing your concerns with staff, the main thing is to just be respectful. If you're unhappy with how someone acted and how a particular situation went, please let us know. If you feel it is directly staff related, you can reach to me directly and I'll talk about it with staff. We're always seeking to improve, and we're not perfect, so we welcome feedback anytime! We want the best for you guys and we can always do better.

  • I talk about casual staff vs. moderating mode, which I understand can be confusing sometimes since we always have the green name no matter what we're doing, but that some things can be misconstrued as us moderating when we may be just chatting or giving an opinion (I used 'I don't like Shane' as an example and how people are welcome to share that as long as it's respectful). Again, if there's anything a staff member does that you think was not handled well or something that was hurtful or offensive please let us know, and I also mentioned that we can always try to be clearer when we're making a moderation action in chat (pinging, very professional wording, etc.)

  • We went into some common suggestions, pronoun roles and console roles being big ones, as well as the use of threads. We aren't implementing these in the near future, however we do discuss these things frequently and will always go back to them so just because we say no in 2017 doesn't mean we will still be no in 2021, it just depends on the topic and it helps us gauge y'alls interest in features to add.

  • You're welcome to suggest commands for Governor anytime, we've added some per suggestions in this survey and from people messaging Bouncer!

  • This was petty relaxed, many comments just thankful or providing some additional stuff that we talked about in the above questions.

  • There were plenty of questions talking about the game directly, and I clarified that the Stardew Valley Discord is community run, but it's in kind of a sweet spot where ConcernedApe knows of this server (you can see him on the sidebar!) and allows us to do our own thing with no real interest of making his own separate server. Basically, this is as official as it gets but we're all just here because we love the community and are having a good time

  • We talked about the bots some, things going on with bot use and how we will approach them moving forward. There aren't really any moderation tools on Discord, which is why we rely heavily on bots. We mentioned how we'd like change about how we handle Leah/the artisan role in regards to the art gallery, and also said we'd like to do something similar for mods!

  • I go on to talk about the modding community some and that we really depend on your suggestions there. I talked a bit about why we don't currently have a direct mod support channel, and we clarified that game-support is for vanilla support only

  • There are plenty of requests to allow additional languages in the server, and we talked about how we did have some support channels for that before but it was hardly used, and it is tough for Junimos to moderate. While plenty of Junimos do know other languages, it's still hard for us to moderate fairly. However, we do look out for servers in other languages and encourage them to reach out to us to be affiliated in #old-welcome !

Additional Stuff Because Jade Was In The Stage Channel For Too Long

  • I encouraged people to give us some feedback on what they would like to see in future stage events! I had a lot of fun doing it and it seemed like everyone was enjoying themselves too. We'd love to do this a bit more often even if it is just casual, and we would like to involve more people too. This one we were a bit relaxed/it was only Aquo and me for a while (and eventually just me) because this was our first stage event and we didn't want to get too crazy with it. We'll definitely allow more people to talk next time and if there's games and stuff we can do for stage events, let us know! Some people have suggested trivia or word games

  • People also had some interest in podcast type stuff which I think would be fun. We could definitely have some focused stage events with some topics that just Junimos chime into (but we respond to discussions in chat). I will make a stage event one day with a essay on Robin's family and their dynamics and why they are so interesting, I will do it, pls let me do it

  • I clarified what is considered on topic and off topic. You can absolutely have multiple topics happening in some game-related channels! Just try to keep it on topic. I also talk about backseat moderating here (which is an above question as well) and go into what we consider backseat moderating. Basically, don't handle a situation the way a Junimo would and we encourage people to just have positive intention and to encourage others rather than tell them what to do

  • There were some other questions like about how we handle piracy discussion, which was basically-- we don't help with vanilla issues if the game is pirated and we do not help with getting a pirated game to work, however people are welcome to help with mod related things. We'd prefer you not mention you have a pirated copy and to keep all discussions about piracy out of the server. We warn for direct linking to pirated media while we typically don't warn, but heavily discourage, discussion

You may or may not have noticed a few days ago but our spoiler rules have changed! This is one of the things that was brought up in the survey and has now been implemented. It's designed so that it's more clear on what we define as a spoiler, and loses the requirement to spoil everything from 1.5. As not all players knew what content came from what update and it's been a long time since the release of the 1.5 update.

Heyyyy guys, surprising to absolutely no one, Discord has been rampant with scams and scammers and it only feels like it's happening more and more. All it takes is one person to have a moment of weakness and click a link or download something and boom, their accounts are entirely compromised.

Some of these scammers have gotten smarter, and I was almost tricked once too, even. There have been some scammers that have created/taken a hold of familiar people's accounts-- could even be your friends-- and talk to you with a link to an .exe file, like a game. The one that contacted me wanted some playtesters for their game and sent a genuine itch.io link, but the problem was that the .exe itself could hack your computer and take all of your information, even if you have 2fa enabled. I said no and they told me to have a nice day. Plenty of people said yes and you know the story.

This is just to say, even if a Discord account looks like your friend, don't trust links being sent to you out of the blue, which not only includes shortened URLs and tokengrabber links, but even links to other sites. Report these if you see them, and if they're in this server, we will ban. Report them directly to Discord too (you can right-click the offending messages and Discord will save them to investigate). Who knows what bored assholes had the idea to violate others privacy and steal people's identities, but hey, it's our reality. Be responsible and safe.

We are still seeing a wave of compromised accounts, so we thought it would be useful to mention a few things about why this is happening and how to avoid it.

Discord is not giving out free Nitro. Any link you see claiming that is a scam. If you receive a message claiming this, please block it, and if it is from a user also in this server, please notify us via @strange ruin . Even if the URL they send strongly resembles Discord's, they are a scam. We have seen hundreds of these nearly-Discord URLs and they are all scams. If Discord does start handing out free Nitro, we'll be sure to tell you.

If you use your Discord app to scan a QR code then your account has been hacked. Scanning the QR code lets someone else into your account without needing the password or 2FA. If you do this, or have already done this, change your password immediately.

We've been doing well blocking most of these scam messages, but if you do see one posted in the server, please either ping Junimo or notify us via Bouncer. Stay safe!

By now a lot of you may be aware that there's a new scam going around on discord. We have received a ton of reports for this new upcoming scam, but we wanted to confirm with a discord admin first before sending a PSA on our end, especially since some reports claimed things that to us seemed impossible just by opening an image.

The person did confirm that this was a real scam going around. However, it seems the non-loading image is trying to trick you into opening the original image link, which would then send you to a log-in screen. Of course, logging in will mean handing over your account to these scammers.

You shouldn't be scared of having lost your account simply because you received the message, or even clicked the image. So long as you don't try and visit the original link of the image you'll be fine. And as always, 2FA is a massive piece of security against these log-in scams.

Hey everyone, I'm sure some of you have noticed that I haven't been around very much the last few months. My dad was fighting colon cancer since 2016 and the battle was getting harder to fight as 2021 went on. Today, he has lost the battle. I don't plan to step down or leave or anything, but I still won't be around very much for a while. Thank you for being such a great community and please allow me the time to heal & respect my privacy. My DMs here are off but even so I ask that you try to not reach out to me-- I will reach out to people when I need to.

The Junimos have taken good care of everyone here and please continue to rely on them for help. Reach out to Bouncer for reports or help and of course be kind and welcoming to others.

Hello everyone, we know there has been a lot of discussion about what to do with the 1.5 specific gameplay channel update-discussion. There were some suggestions to rename it to veteran-farmers, or turning it into a channel for mobile players specifically. However, the nature of the channel was always a temporary one. No one expected the mobile port to take so long so we were kind of stuck in a limbo with the channel. As such, we have decided to remove the channel and relax the spoiler rules in #season-farmers.
The new spoiler rules will be as follows:

#stardew-valley - No discussion at all of content that occurs after Community Center/Joja Development completion or 10-heart (or higher) character events. Those topics are better suited for seasoned-farmers.

Spoiler tags required for all other heart events, secret note rewards, and Community Center rewards. It is still okay to mark other things as spoilers if you wish.
