The beta can start literally any day. Nothing has been said officially about when it starts and it's all kind of a big joke by now.
Something delayed the beta, based on Rita's throwaway comment, and as far as we know, only a few select YouTubers were given access.
I filled out the form a very long time ago, about a week after it first became available. Haven't been contacted.
With roughly a week left before release, it would leave testers with very little time to give proper feedback, even if it started today.

So we're mostly banking on the post-release patch for addressing any feedback, I'd say. Unless it's some obvious bug people find. Those few who did get access have found a few bugs, and those will likely be fixed in the release version.

Expired Medicine does lean pretty far into the "do it for the lulz" idea. It's great if it works and it's cool for a heavily luck-focused game and world, but it's not at all worth it if you actually care about winning.

Multiplayer doesn't feel more competitive. If anything, you can afford to piss about a lot more and the way the ultimate winner is decided is a joke.
Based on my experience running what is essentially BR multiplayer in real life, meds aren't good because all they do is clog up the inventory of players, who are too hesitant to use them.

By removing them you allow more space for items which will actually see use.

(I reduced the amount of med cards in my version instead of removing them outright.)

Guess this is an issue. Usually card games have diversity in strategies and builds. Skilled players already figured plenty out for Double or Nothing to the point of getting predictable.

Even with perfect play though, it'll boil down to getting lucky.

You can easily screw over one person at the table, collectively. Which isn't particularly fun. But screwing over everyone at once is a lot harder.

One thing I like about the official multiplayer is that having more than 2 people at the table makes shooting yourself more viable.

Or so it feels.

Because if you fire a blank at someone, you might not even live to see your next turn.

There are 2-3 other people taking their turns before you get to do anything again, so you better make your turn count.

Here's another fun use case of the inverter:
3L1B, 2 charges each, dealer has no items. If you have no items, you have a 50% chance of dying, but with an inverter you are guaranteed to survive.
