Buckshot Roulette
Will there ever be a hard mode of any kind? Because the current dealer isn’t the smartest. Maybe there could be a separate dealer that gives higher scores and is harder. And to access him there could be another door in the hallway for the hard mode dealer that unlocks after you beat the normal dealer. And another thing is there should be a pause menu that can give you the options to return to the menu, access the settings menu, return to the bathroom so you can switch modes, and maybe even restart the round. And the last one is to make it so you can replay after you win instead of closing the game so players can replay without reopening the game.`
Also you should probably do something about supporting non vulkan drivers. Since people don't read the description saying they need vulkan drivers lol..
Buckshot Roulette
I've had this idea for a bit and it's a stats viewer. Basically shows all the stats at the end of a normal mode game just for all your playthroughs total. So in the main menu there would be a stats option which would show mL beer drank, doors kicked, blanks fired, etc. As well as maybe total money won, your double or nothing high score, amount of completions, and fastest completion.
Oh yeah and different volume sliders for music and SFX that too

Talking about buckshot roulette...
Sound hits hard. Would be fun to have different music playing every few rounds of endless mode. Would certainly give the game passive rep gains by inciting twitch streamers to "get to the end of the OST." Just make sure to also add a "Save Progress and Quit" feature for strictly legal reasons.
Buckshot Roulette
So buckshot roulette got me back into techno music and while playing I saw this boombox (pictured below), after a few days and a massive music binge later I got the magical idea of:
**What if there were cassettes you could put into the boombox to change the game mode? **
So as a player, you can choose a cassette to play a specialized track that changes the game mode. I came up with two very half baked example game modes that could work using this model, but many more types of modes could be added using this feature.
SPEED MODE
No items, very quick turns that last 3-4 seconds, if a decision is not made in that time the player auto aims at themselves, blanks still skip dealer, both player and dealer have 6 lives.
BLACKOUT MODE
There are black colored shells that are either live or blank, neither player nor dealer can tell the difference. 2-4 items every round. Magnifying glasses can reveal if a blackout shell is a live or blank.
GAME ONE: 1-2 shells are blackout shells
GAME TWO: 3-4 shells are blackout shells
GAME THREE: all shells are blackout shells
(Please note these ideas are a very rough draft, I have already been thinking of possible balances/fixes for these gamemodes)
How to get cassettes?
Well there are three ways I think they could be implemented:

You can randomly discover cassettes through the item box. It could either be a randomized drop or you must play a certain amount of rounds/game modes to get certain cassettes

The dealer or a new character gives the cassettes to the player

Cassettes could be done with achievements. Blackout could be unlocked by shooting yourself with a live round after using the saw. Could also be done so that you have to survive the round to make the cassette appear.
Buckshot Roulette
what if an apple was an item in the game, one that you can put on your head...
How would it work?
· When an apple is enabled, it will have a 10% chance of taking the damage from a shot instead of you. It'll render regular shots useless, and halves the damage of a sawed off shot. (From 2 charge to 1.) apples despawn at the end of a phase. apples also have a very low spawn rate.
(Just to clarify, this is a joke idea. Not serious in the slightest.)
imagine if everything was also a live in some mini-mini gamemode and the apples had a 60% chance of eating the round (/j)
This is just a idea I had but what if there was a mode that had 3 other dealers and there would be 3 dealers 1 player and they would target a random dealer or player idk just a little idea I had

Do you guys need a dutch translator or translation for the game buckshot roulette?
Now this is a big concern I have about buckshot roulette. Basically Buckshot Roulette is tied to the other games mike made in some way and I am afraid that future updates might break that connection. It would be fine if they add lore or things that can make the connection to the other games make sense. Idk if this is already thought about and controlled but I just wanted to put out my concerns.

I tried the 1.5 online version. I like the difficulty changes for the most part. Idk if it's a bug but I liked the darker colors of the downloaded version I have more than what is shown in the screenshot. It felt more immersive. I also enjoyed being able to see how much health each player has rather than a solid white bar. Anywho, thanks for making this game, it was a fun 8 hours or so. I enjoyed trying to get to $1,000,000 via double or nothing on the easier difficulty. I could see myself playing this a lot if there was pvp.

So I’ve been playing buckshot roulette every single day since January 14, and I’ve really only got one complaint. The shell orders aren’t fully randomized. I can’t fully name off every single order, but i noticed that there is a lot of repeated shell orders. I hope to see more randomized counts and orders on the steam release!

A verification bot to prevent spammers. I hate seeing multiple notifications in different channels, getting excited to see what people are talking about, and then realize it’s just spamming

We're constantly updating our server security and also set new filters for keywords and other identifying scam characteristics used after any instances of one actually breaking through our current filters. I understand its frustrating but in the interest of transparency I wanted to share what is actually being done to try to resolve this. Thanks for understanding!

Verification bots have driven cool users away from the servers because many are used to steal accounts and people have lost trust in them.
During a raid, discord itself demands capcha from its members, it's called raid protection.
sacrifice good people to avoid bad ones is always a bad approach, rest assured though. we're constantly working hard to keep our server safe

This is what I used to do
I'm part of a mod team of a smaller discord (think 800 users or so) and the way we have verification set up is that (most) of our channels are locked behind a verified role that can be applied by a bot or manually by an admin
for sure! when possible I prefer to explain the reasoning behind things as often in life I've found frustrations stems from just not knowing. we cant all know everything haha 
if any user fails the automatic bot verification one of the mods are pinged with the reason why and the user gets redirected to a sort of verification limbo channel where they can converse with the mods to see if theyre real or bot and be let in manually 
yea there’s like over 100 things in total on earth. I’d imagine it’s pretty difficult to know all of them
that might be something we can look into at some point! right now a lot of the team is traveling for GDC and PAX but we'll pick up w/server updates when we're back

We have a similar ratio of staff to server members and have kept things running pretty smoothly between the free tiers of Dyno, Crosslink, and Yagpdb - even when sections of the team are unavailable.

I know you already are busy, but please consider a "easy mode" in a future update as some friends are having troubles beating the standard 3 rounds.
It could be like the pills that starts the "hard mode" "double or nothing", I noticed the pills on the towel dispenser go unused, maybe use them.
And BuckWheat Sucrette recommended the funnier alternative the pink soap to set off easy/tutorial mode, implying that basic hygiene is the dealer's weakness or that he doesn't want to mess with a man determined to snack on a bar before gambling.
And with the AI getting smarter you might wanna allow a "OG mode" or something, that uses the old AI.

Ive noticed an issue within the game. If you collect a beer, and put it on the top left slot on the right 4 slots. The beer actually covers your charges. It's not a big deal but it does mean if you forget how many charges you are at you are screwed

Noticed a strange issue on buckshot roulette on the steam deck with a controller connected. When i completed the story I wasn't able to continue and the only button that worked was the reset button during the endscreen, this made unlocking double or nothing impossible. I tried every button on both the steam deck and controller, I found a solution which was to change the layout to touchscreen mouse emulation and use the steam decks track pad which previously didn't work. A very niche bug but a bug I figured id mention nonetheless c:

Nope, when i completed the story and the prompt "press any button to exit" appears, pressing any button on the controller will have no works.(Only the Y button on the controller works, but it will reset the game story and will not enable Double or Nothing mode)

You can try remapping one of the buttons on your Steam Deck to the keyboard button right now as a sorta DIY solution. Some people also mentioned calling the Steam Deck keyboard with Steam + X combo and pressing any button on it as well

I was under the impression English was the primary server language and asking people to leave seems kinda uncool in that context
The main server language is english, but also we do our very best to be inclusive and add things to our server that our community requests.
Community requests are discussed as a team, so any one person wouldn't be able to make that call. So, if the answer is no we'd have to let you know after discussing as a group.
This however is very uncool behavior and please report to a moderator!

Sent to the bot, but don’t see it mentioned in here. Noticed a review on Steam mentioning the game is not terribly colourblind friendly and that it’s difficult to distinguish live rounds from blanks. This can probably be addressed with alternate patterned textures with a toggle in options, gotta make sure the game is accessible to all potential buyers.

I feel like I am the only one losing my mind over this and idk if I'm just nuts or everyone else has been having a lot more fun than me. I got Buckshot Roulette yesterday and my god the game's fantastic and I want to 100% it, shame trying to 100% this game is boring as hell. If I were trying to play this casually I could replay it again and again. I love this game cause of the RNG, but the RNG doesn't translate well with the end game achievements.
The furthest I've ever gotten in double or nothing mode was the first round when I was asked 'double it' for the 3rd time. After 2 hours of trying double or nothing mode I just got tired of it, felt like I was clocking into work. I looked through all the negative reviews on steam and no one mentions this, and I've checked the high scores channel in this discord and most people are talking about winning $10. Again, I feel like I'm loosing my mind at this, because how the hell did 13.6% of the player base get the 1000K achievement yet 12.5% have the Overdose achievement?
if a game has leaderboards many people are ready to cheat for that. its almost with every game i play that has leaderboards i see people with impossible scores/time spent on the level. this game is no exception there are 10+ people with billions scored. and also someone might just get really lucky at the game. it took me 12+ tries to win 2 times in double or nothing, but my last win was very quick since i kept getting a saw, dealer and me had 2 health and there were low amount of shells
Well I don't wanna cheat, that would just cheapen the experience just good to know that 15.6% of people isn't all that really. But still, I have probably done 30+ attempts at double or nothing and I'm just done. Game's great in short bursts like if I'm on a bus or something and I need something to do (I play on Steam Deck), but I feel like I've just wasted my time for 75% of this game.

Knives spawn a LITTLE too frequently in the Double Or Nothing mode when you've got 2 charges.
Meaning more often than not, you end up firing a blank, and then the A.I. pulls out a blade and ends your run instantly.
Hey, yknow those pills that have a chance to heal or harm you? what if you could choose to give them to yourself or the dealer? Risk vs reward, You probably hurt him but theres a chance he heals and screws up your run.
Or just more items that have chances, i really like the concept of risk vs reward items like the pills

You will need to buy it again on steam, but from what i've read itch.io will get a v1.2 update later. It'll contain everything in the steam version but the planned multiplayer and leaderboards.

I thought of a interesting idea for Buckshot Roulette and that's the ability to somehow be able to implement custom sound tracks and tie them to events going on in the game.
Basically the idea is that the player can interact with a broken boombox in the bathroom after beating normal mode at least once. When doing so, they'll be taken to a menu that instructs you how to put in custom music in the game. You can put your songs into different categories, 'Idle (music to play when in the bathroom or catwalk), Playing (music for all or first and second rounds), Tension (music for third round/sudden death only.)'
Custom Options can also be toggled, so if you don't want your songs to cycle through when going from round 2 to round 3 you can disable that. You can also have the original songs in the mix if you want as well. Nothing can beat the original song. 
I know multiplayer is coming. So adding skins that you can buy with the money you earn from playing could be cool. New game modes could be fun too like "sudden death" or "no items". Also improving the graphics a little would be nice. And an ingame leaderboard would be very cool! i'm having lots of fun playing and these are a few ideas i had while playing.
There actually is already a leaderboard in the steam version.

I just saw one of the mods say that the items staying after the 3rd round was a bug. I honestly thought it was a feature. I thought you purposely added strategy to the game and I hope that if you do "fix" this bug, you at least make another pill version, where the items do stay behind, because I very much like the items staying on the board. It makes everything much more intense, strategic and challenging.

You need to let the winning screen play but not press the restart button (any other key). It will fade to black and "DOUBLE OR NOTHING" MODE UNLOCKED! will appear.
Then the intro logos will play again.

The thing is, I don't wanna, I've 100%'d Crash 4, it was a good game bogged down by an absolute ridiculous completion requirement. But since this game is literally luck based, I refuse.

Me too, I just find it so bad usual because of the RNG, I've gotten all the achievements in Cuphead as well and that was tough as nails, but fair. I have seen pizza tower and tbh not my cup of tea but I have heard the S rank is bs lol. With all the other games I've done it's been skill based mixed with good luck. These 2 achievements felt like they were slapped on without much thought and as frustrated as I am, I'm more disappointed.
Like, I'm guessing with pizza tower you have to perfect each level before moving on, again never played it. But I guess the content in the game evolves as it goes on, with Buckshot Roulette its the same thing just rearranged each time. That's boring imo.

And idk, with Buckshot Roulette I approached DoN the way I did on itch, but since the AI got reworked, I am actually elaborating new strats to be able to go further and further every time. Sure I've got bad RNG days and also my attention is not the best so it... doesn't help hgjfkds BUT I leggit have started to really think hard about how to do things with what I'm given. Which I find equally frustrating as it is challenging and to me it is fun. But yet again, depends on each person! I'm sorry you find it boring :c

they're completely RNG-based and just not fun to try to obtain in the slightest

When you reach a certain score in double or nothing, indicate whether or not you beat your high score
So then, that way, if you quit, you'll know that you reached a high score

Yeah, it's a tradeoff to run faster/better on older hardware.
Vulkan was created to supersede OpenGL overall, but older graphics cards don't mesh with it nearly as well. Hopefully the optimization in the game's codebase improves over time
Hi I noticed a nasty bug in the game. I don't know if I'm the only one experiencing this or not. I noticed that sometimes the dealer will load the gun with for example 1 live and 2 blank shots. When the live round is used and if the dealer has an inverter he will use the inverter, most cases on the final shot (which is a blank), and turns it into a live round. I don't know if this was intended or not but it certainly has cost me many games. So I tried it myself and sure enough, when I used the inverter on the final shot (which is blank) it will indeed to the shot into a live round.

oh sorry it probably doesn;t trackplaytime. You can just launch it from the steam UI instead of the app. It's definitely separate than a game copy from steam

I plan to make a video for my YT channel about how to play it when I get the rules finalized as currently it takes a bit too long in my opinion
Dice is to randomly set a load on the shot gun, the coin is used on some items, such as expired medicine and burner phone
It's kinda funny actually, while I was working on the game, expired medicine was the 60-40 and I just decided to make it a coin flip for simplicity sake, then the game updated to make it 50-50.
You did the right thing for the expired medicine then. 🤣

Actually, never thought of both dice to make live and blank, the D8 is total dice and I made a chart to decide how many go in, the other die (the D4) is how many items you get per load out

Like I said, I'll get how gameplay work in a video once all the kinks get worked out, as some games can last for and hour or even two at this stage

I am excited for the multiplayer, it would be nice to have the shotgun spin-the-bottle style for starting the game.
One thing I thought when playing the game is making the game harder, like another dealer or another scene with different items and the dealer is more unfair that has more health and cheats sometimes (knows the order of first two or three shells) or shells that you don't know if they are blank or live. I think the main game can still get way better and even add some badges on multiplayer avatars (if we going to have one) for getting rare achievements or beating hard dealers.
Quick question.. Is it possible to add an option to use previous used name, without having to sign the waiver everytime?

I just got a personal high score, but it didn't get uploaded to the leaderboard. I can see the global and friends leaderboards so I don't think there's anything wrong with the network. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
In his perspective, there are 2 blanks and 1 live left. So it's normal to choose to hit you after the reversal, and he'll use the handsaw whenever he has it when he hits you.
I think developers have to revise their scripts.

Every time when you use phone, make move, then it's dealers turn and there is 2 blanks and 1 live in a row - and dealer do not have phone or glass - he does 2 shot's himself with blanks, and last show in my face with live

Dealer no longer does 50/50 in v1.2 Double or Nothing. If his best guess is that blanks outnumbers live, he will always shoot himself until it evens out.

When I won the first 3 ronds it showed up as 10, and then I doubled and got 20. Didn't get any achievement because I already had one for doubleing once but if I hadn't I think It would have given it to me

In a nutshell, the phone starts counting from the current shells left in the loadout.
So if the loadout is one live, two blanks (BBL) and you use the phone before the first shot, the phone can say this:
THIRD SHELL... LIVE
But if one shot has been fired (_BL), it would say this:
SECOND SHELL... LIVE

You did not get it properly. Phone told that SECOND shell is blank, player drinks beer (and in game too), after that blasting his face with live round
For example there is only 2 shells left in chamber (no matter how many was before)

Hi! The sound issue is on Godot's end (the engine used to make Buckshot), there's unfortunately nothing we can do to fix it
Some people managed to fix it by not using their audio interfaces and just plugging the headset into the pc

I'm looking through the Godot issue list for Audio to see if it's been reported already ( https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3Atopic%3Aaudio ) but can't really narrow it down from what I've read so far.
That's pretty much all we have about it for now as well, the only thing that consistently seems to mess with it is audio interface
One of the players had a very similar audio set up as me (beyerdynamics + amp/dac) and they got the audio issue whereas I didn't 
hmm, worth checking if the drivers for your Amp and theirs are different versions then, it sounds like it might be one of the driver crash issues mentioned there.

i'm likely not the first to say this but we NEED multiplayer, a way to go against your friend, instead of the dealer. I've only logged 25 mins on the game, so I don't know much but I know for a fact this would be amazing.

That port isn't planned, and this is likely why - an experienced game dev explains why he dropped support (not only is it expensive, but extremely cumbersome for less than 1% of the market)

Being able to custom add music to modify the rave playlist would be nice. If this doesn’t go through I’m not complaining cause Buckshot Roulette’s OST is a bop. Though it probably is already a thing with mods.
After playing around a little bit I figured there were a few things I would like changed/fixed for the game to become more fair (I'm trying to get to the 1M points thing and you definitely need a serious amount of luck to do so):
- After cutting the barrel, the barrel should stay cut until a bullet is fired towards the enemy or the round ends.
Because otherwise, let's say there's 4 blanks and 4 live rounds in the barrel. You open your box and you find 5 items.
You get an inverter, a phone, and 3 magnifying glass.
Dealer gets 2 handcuffs and 3 knives.
You have 3 health.
By playing perfectly, your chances of survival are close to none. The dealer would, logically, just spam the knife because best case scenario you get 2 damage and worse case he gets 1 damage.
Now, if the barrel stayed cut, cutting it every time without making sure whether the next bullet will or will not hit the target is a lot more risky, cause either could be that target.
- I'm pretty sure this is a bug, but the items should reset at the start of the first round of the next match of double or nothing.
This is self explanatory, but to get to the next match you need to win, and doing so normally requires you using items, given that the dealer didn't use his turn yet, he will ALWAYS have more items than you, sometimes making it ridiculously unfair.
- Tweak the randomness of the items in the box.
Make it so you can't get more than one knife per box if you're pulling handcuffs out of it. Having 2 knifes + handcuffs is, in most cases, an instant win.
- Make it so you can drop the shotgun after picking it up, instead of being forced to shoot either yourself or the dealer every time.
Too many times I made the mistake of picking up the gun and forgot to use the knife or the inverter or the handcuffs or something else, leading to immediate demise.
- SPEED. UP. ANIMATIONS. Like in Fire Emblem or Wargroove. Or just skip them entirely.
Don't get me wrong, they look super cool, but this makes the game extremely tedious and getting 6 matches in a row in Double or nothing ends up taking over an hour. Wayyy too long for something with a "50/50" chance of winning. This also helps the point system in Double or Nothing.
If you still want people to appreciate them, unlock such feature after clearing the story, and make it unskippable during the story.

Still love the game. It's super fun and I'll keep on playing it. Keep up the good work, devs!

First time with all the new items. Holy bajesus they make the dealer dangerous as hell. (keep in mind this strictly from the perspective of DoN)
So, the Dealer's limited options were what made him a reasonable opponent previously. Yes; he usually made the smartest decision (aside from often shooting himself on a 50/50), but his shortage of tools made it so he was more or less playing the odds just like you. However, now it's like trying to beat a computer at chess. My only remaining weapon is RNG, and that goes completely out the window if he still has items. The combination of your items and his honestly makes the fact that you go first an advantage for HIM, and a big one at that. If you make a plan and even 1 part of it goes wrong, you've essentially just lost the round.
I'm rambling at this point so I'll cut it off there. All that said, I DO like the new items and believe they will be hecka fun when multiplayer comes out. The only item I see as problematic is the inverter, but I cant even properly articulate why right now. It creates so many additional variables. I might feel better if it literally swapped the round instead of transforming it, but I digress.
(Also a little warning about Adrenaline having a timer would be nice lol)
This illustrates my point right here. (Game is in fullscreen and I cant tab out so no screenshot lol) What in god's name is my move now? No matter if I get lucky OR use my items effictively, he's in the optimal position. If I hit him with the lives, he can just invert the blanks. If I empty the blanks then he can just shoot me (duh)

He wont invert unless he knows its blank, otherwise he flips a coin or just shoots you if the last round is live
You're right, but that doesn't really refute my point. Say he gambles and fires a blank at me. Sure, I've avoided death and can empty the chamber for now, but he still has those inverters for later. There's no real way for me to remove the threat, and he will always have the tools to end the run unless I manage to empty the entire chamber on my turn. He has a fundamental advantage over me now. You could even say the fact that I know more about whats in the gun than him actually works to his favor. Obviously I'm digging a little deep for a 2 dollar party game with neat art, but ya know...
How many bullets are in the chamber?
In that instance there was 1 live and 2 blanks, but like I said earlier this is strictly from DoN point of view. If the items just went away then this would be a non issue. (Also he pulled 2 more somehow lmao. 7 inverters)
Okay, heres what I would do:
- Use handcuffs
- Use phone to see if it tells me if an upcoming shell is the live one
- If it does, use adrenaline to steal an inverter and invert a blank, shoot that new live and known live with the cuffs, round won
- If it doesnt (2nd shell blank) theres chances the 1st shell is live. If it is, steal an inverter after firing and do the same as above; If it isnt, skip the 2nd shell and use the regular live on the 3rd shell to preserve handcuffs and end turn
- If it doesnt (3rd shell blank), you can either fire at him or use beer to preserve handcuffs on either of the first 2 shells and use an adrenaline to invert the 3rd shell

But see all that dancing and variety that had to be done to avoid the threat of even 1 inverter in this one niche case? That threat is created every time he has even 1 of them. Obviously this game has a heavy emphasis on luck and I can't expect things to go my way often, but this item makes it so that even if he does something incredibly stupid like blow through a glass and/or a beer, he still has an advantage over me Because he can always flip that last shell. Aside from killing him outright or emptying the gun myself I can't gain a leg up. And i dunno about you but in my previous experience he ends up with the last shell more often. Whether it be because you got unlucky, or you managed to orchestrate it so the last shell is a blank in his hand. Thats not an option anymore lol
Again it hardly matters in the grand scheme. We'll all most likely be shooting our friends when multiplayer comes out, and at that point human error is a factor for BOTH sides
Most of the time in my case even if he does end up inverting it doesn't impact too much
I cna either heal it back or end up just shooting him the next round and its fine
At the very least he could use multiple inverters if he KNOWS the round is blank but otherwise it just takes up his space and he only ever uses them on the final shell if needed
Youre absolutely correct, but I think the fact that you no longer have the option to force a blank on him is a huge blow. If he had a dangerous combo of items, you could at least try to empty most of the rounds yourself and leave him with a blank or two and carry that into the next round, hoping for enough to finish him off before he can pull some nasty shizz. I'm not a very lucky guy, so having that potential was really helpful. Now seeing a scary combo AND this dang inverter feels like a doomed situation and your best hope is for him to do somethin dumb
(Side note these new animations are freggin awesome)

Something I've been thinking about lately was an addition of slug rounds to Buckshot roulette. Here's how it could work:
Slug rounds have a noticable green hue and deal 2 damage. This damage cannot be increased via hand saw. It can sometimes appear in place of a regular live roundto create a more dynamic playing field.
