And I can back that up, we cleared Kara the first week we tried. 3:30h of raid. Vanilla was getting speedran (tho thanks to world buff shitty meta) days into the content.

Turns out, vanilla was hard because ppl playing it 1) were on pentium IV machines 2) were on dial up internet

Vanilla infamously only allowed one guild or two PER raid at the same time, on the same server

Otherwise it would lag like crazy

tbc itemization is still bad but not that bad

It still means most hunters will wear a mix of leather and mail gear

And that some paladins will have some cloth on them still

That got fixed on Cataclysm when they introduced Armor Specialization

WotLK made it better by also providing better stats on mail for hunters, plate for paladins, etc

Vanilla and TBC and WotLK talents are also messy, you have a lot of options to chose sure and you can pick whatever build you want but realistically most people will follow the best build, maybe with a couple points differently allocated but it was mostly 99% mirror builds

WotLK also had GearScore, which made the community angry 😂

There's a trend of addons that provide numbers that might equal to player usefulness and the community in general hating them

GearScore is the pioneer of the itemLVL we now have, though GS was way more useful because it actually took enchants and gems into account

My friends mainly complaint is that they say you do not ran out of mana never, never lose health while leveling. I found very anoying to kill a mob and have to spend 10 seconds to drink some water as a wizard

So they say is too easy and i say to them that it seems people are saying that retail is harder in late game

yeah, retail transitioned from "The game is the leveling experience (Classic)" to "The game is the endgame, level as fast as you can (Retail)"

And yes, high end retail has always been harder

Classic had one difficulty setting, now we have 3+1

Classic was normal, now we have normal, heroic and mythic; plus Looking for Raid (for those that don't really care about raiding but want to do it but kinda don't wanna. It's easy mode and that's fine, it also is queueable as opposed as the other modes)

Dungeons are similar, Normal and Heroic being queueable thru the Looking for Group tool

Mythic not being queueable

And Mythic+ being an no difficult ceiling mode (you can just keep getting higher and higher keys, each level is like 10% extra damage and HP on the enemies)

Retail also is filled with mechanics, partially thanks to addons such as DBM that help players avoid them or execute them properly

If no DBM the game wouldn't be near as hard as it it today

people also don't enjoy retail because you have no reason to interact with people. pvp also really sucks in retail right now. min maxing character builds and gear happens in retail too, some specs are straight up not playable. tldr the game had issues then and still has them now

classic= challenging, fun, more tactical since you cant pull too many mobs. You feel weak, but when you kill challenging mob it feels rewarding. Retail= Full ADHD action, pull leverything, kill all in masses, smash buttons, fun brainless fighting and you feel like a god.

While not exactly true, you could say classic is slow paced and retail is fast paced.

From what I've read, it'll be new servers where people start at lvl 1, then they unlock various phases through the year. "The first phase opens Molten Core, Onyxia, Maraudon, the PvP honor system, and battlegrounds, leading through to the sixth phase, which is Naxx and the Scourge invasion. The studio is also planning a few other changes, including increasing experience gains, changing Meeting Stones to Summoning Stones, adding more gathering nodes, and making early raid bosses more challenging."

Hey folks! So... what are the thoughts about Season of Mastery around here? I have to admit to being tempted to start over, fresh, taking the experiences I've learned in Classic and filling-in what I missed on the first go-around. (Mainly in that I would probably not treat Classic as a casual leveling adventure and instead focus on a reroll of my Retail main, playing like I know how... that sorta thing.) I dunno... thoughts? Do you think SoM is a relaunch of Classic whereby Blizzard has learned from past mistakes and it will be a better experience? I just feel that Classic left me wanting (having casually leveled a hunter through BC to 70). I keep feeling a mage reroll calling to me. 😄

Well, against all pre-planning and rationale, I'm gonna take a stab at SoM. I'm primarily a retail-focused player, and I have one casual toon in BC Classic. But I've been itching to reroll my main all throughout Classic and it just never took hold. This might be my chance. I'm a little concerned that I won't be able to keep-up with the content (or even leveling), but I really want to focus on playing this character smarter (than I did both in original Vanilla and with another toon in Classic). I want to not waste gold on professions stuff as much while leveling, I want to only train the proper skills. As for endgame? I'm not sure I will have much time when Retail 9.2 comes out, but even so, I would like to take this shot at SoM. I know I'm going to be surrounded by some pretty hardcore players focused on raid progression. Maybe at the end of SoM, at least I could copy this toon to Classic Era as a sort of reference/museum character for 1.x. I dunno... do you think I might have a place in SoM if my attention is split between Retail and even a little Classic BC?

I think you would, the leveling process in SoM is a lot faster in comparison to Classic. It's supposed to be like Retail so i wouldnt doubt that you could keep up with the content even if you play casually
