Ubuntu works just fine for most I do and I know others play on Linux, just looking for some constructive help

basically not playable on lunix (though tbh a lot of the time not on windows as well)
For me, Reforger works on Arch without any other aditional settings (Steam + Proton), in any case, it makes no sense to play under Linux because there are graphic glitches (especially problems with lighting, AA..) and much worse performance, as with all non-native applications.
Advice to play it on Windows is constructive.. 🙂

This is such a problem with (SteamDB) ProtonDB that someone giving it a "recommended" rating does not mean that they actually play the game.

fixed winged (planes) are outside the scope of reforger (but not for enfusion engine <future arma titles>)
fixed wing physics was done for Reforger by Redline guys but IIRC BI said they will not do any native planes or tanks
Yeah I think so, I understood that mods for reforger should be compatible with next Arma titles, that where my question came, it would be nice if in reforger there is an early version of fixed wing physics to help modders making mods that could be added to future Arma titles
The issue using a physics by mod is future plane mods won't be compatible with future titles
direct plug and play compatibility is very very unlikely....but more along the lines of A2 to A3 rather than A3 to reforger....

it is a very annoying flaw in the system that they use, hopefully it is fixed soon, right now the only fix is to make them angry and shoot you until they are fixed, tbh most of them are easy to emotionaly manipulate which is good 😆

Can not find a capture and hold multiplayerserver at all. Mod activated and only that one, but no server hosting it. I can host local server but we can't host dedicated server with same mod... Whats wrong?

Hey everyone. So I've been hosting my arma server on Nitrado forever, I've never tried looking for another server host. Is there a better functioning server host by chance? or are they all kinda the same? If anyone could give me some insight to this I would appreciate it
I moved from Nitrado to GTX and it was night and day difference. You get better specs for the same price, can pick and choose where your money goes (slots, RAM, CPU, etc) and the 2 times ive had to contact their support I got a response in under 30 minutes and the problem fixed in an hour

Anyone know how to bind Q and E (single press) to Lean Toggle? It seems to be stuck on assinging the default of a double press. I've unbound Q and E from Lean Left / Right.
i thought they were repeaters that extended range of the one frequency 🤔 so small bases can amplify a signal a bit more and they can reach even further when an antenna is built, or at least that would make sense

You can do it trough the advanced keybind function. When you are in the advanced keybind menu you have a couple of dropdown folders, just press your allready assigned keybind in there or asign a new one, then press the left dropdown folder and select none. That will make it single press👍

How can you save loadouts in solo game master sessions? I know how to do it but for some reason it keeps resetting every time I load back into the session. It says my loadout saved but it always resets when I leave game even though I'm not restarting the session

someone with more experience modding than me told me that fileio operations against profile folders don't work on xbox
that makes sense since Xbox is quite strict with storage usage but with SessionStorage it is possible since that is specifically made for save purposes and limits are enforced with it from c++ so that it can be used on Xbox.
It is true that it might bot be as versatile as fileoi but with it you can actually write save and loading which would work even on Xboxes.

early access games change more than "released" games, and all modders knew what they signed up for when they started modding
If reforger would be a final release game on a final working engine, it would be a problem. But reforger isn’t either. So it is 100% expected and understandable
You have to understand that mods dont usually work after an update on other games like squad, Sometimes updates just change some things inside of the code and that ruins the vehicle.

You have asked and you have been answered - you should contact your service provider for support in regards to the server (game doesn't matter much) they have provided for you. You have a question in regards to a service provided by a 3rd party, which is something BI staff, or anyone else here cannot figure out for you.
As PuFu has said, this matter is not related to Reforger itself or questions about its features. It is more troubleshooting for your server or things to be directed to your provider. This wouldn’t be the proper place to ask about it.
Do the trail markers that got added in the recent update have a beginning and end to them? If so, does anyone know where they are?
You can find hiking maps in most towns, like the montignac square. That shows you the different colors of trails and where they begin/intersect/end

And its gonna take time until next update for stable, last time there was a update on stable was 10th of august, so probably next month, or maybe small patches in 2 weeks

Reforger is hardly a full arma experience, but rather a lite version aimed at multiplayer. Most people who have been around this franchise for a while avoid calling it arma reforger and named it reforger for this very reason. Also consoles these days are just lower end PCs with some additional limitations to memory and storage management (and network as well)
Arma/ofp ran on a console in 2005... it even had a mission editor

just FYI they can also go 0.10.11.99, 0.11.99.51 etc and still not hit 1.0. The version number is not mathematical, each number is arbitrary.

BB -> Build version, usually automatic, indicating how many times game was built, reset to 0 when minor version changes
So in our example 0.9.9.97 represent, Not full release, 9th major update, 9th minor update of this major update, there were 97 builds within this minor update
(Build version could also reset only on major change, im not 100% sure)

You need to have it in your harness, or alternatively in your shirt if you have no harness. This should visually equip it on there. On PC you can then hold L to toggle it while on your chest

Rather, there is something weird with lighting and material. The color of the river changes with the weather and time from relatively ok to radioactive sewage from Chernobyl. The ocean and rivers looked better before environment update, color was more natural.

I’m unsure how to check server logs on Nitrado I’m pretty new at this, so learning as I go.
I have no idea where they keep your server logs, maybe someone else who uses them knows.
I also have a gtx server and they are so much easier to troubleshoot, Nitrado is a little behind in that department

not in and of itself. if version 1.0 works perfectly but version 1.2 has a ton of bugs or clearly causes issues then yeah changing the version can help

Hey does anyone know how to get ahold of a mod creator that goes by the name of edgewise on the workshop? He’s the creator of the CNCKUNAR CONFLICT I’d like to give some feedback to some issues I’m running into
maybe one of y’all can help or give some insight when I load into CNCKUNAR CONFLICT mod scenario some of my mods do not show up in the arsenal box and I think it’s bc mod creator has set the factions to USMC and FIA(Taliban mod) well the arsenal box says save loadout for “US ARMY items only” so when I loaded in with my previous save loadout (US Army items) it said it couldn’t save loadout bc it was the wrong faction etc.

If you download mods, itll load them automatically
Upon joining a server, itll unload all the mods the game doesnt need
So if you have 90 mods installed, and the server only needs 20, then itll unload 70 of them
Then something is not right, I just tested that and it did not unload any mods.
I have all enabled that totals 87. I joined a server that only requires 26. Ran around, left. Still 87 mods enabled.

I don't want 90 mods enabled at all times, that's my problem.
I shouldn't have to manually go in and unenable mods I don't need each time I change servers. I should be able to have 0 enabled, join a server it loads the required ones, when I leave it should un-enable them unless I'm using a mod preset. Is that really too much to ask?

@sand verge I can disable all my mods under "Mod Manager" tab. If I join a server, and have the prerequisite mods for that server, it will let me join. I believe the enabling is for when you want to "Locally Host" a server or use GM. But for dedicated servers you don't need them enabled.

Alot of stuff still existed in the '80s, it can be futuristic and the testing stuff can be in the 1980s, they had NODs, Thermals, etc back then. Just fewer of them

If the LAV includes thermals - and it ought to considering it had that even on base models, and NODs pop up after launch considering they said there will be post-launch development, it'll likely be set in the modern day or near future

The flashbacks are actually meta because the flashbacks take place during the Reforger exercises and use the Reforger assets.
The title of the section is "Connection to Arma 4" so it would make sense if they are saying that assets and historical context will be the same for Arma 4.... so A4 Cold War... or maybe slightly post-Cold War at best. But we'll see

This still means we might see something like a M113
All of these are old though. I don't think any of it is still relevant to the current development.
I'm not betting on it personally. I still believe they'll finish all of the roadmap content since that's the foundation of which they'll build Arma 4 off of. With my current 3mbs upload and .5 download anytime I get near more than 4 ppl my ping shoots to 400-500. I can’t hear anyone talk and then 30 seconds later I lag out. It’s happening for the past 3 weeks game has become unplayable. It’s the only reason I’m getting new internet and it’s the only alternative I can find in my area

volumetic means a volume and you can fly through them like arma 3's clouds, only downside is that it usually has a performance hit based on the resolution and density of the clouds

I just run at lowest setting anyway. If I am playing solo, I make sure to play in sunny weather. No clouds. Free FPS boost

Nah... for my old 5700XT, going High on Environment setting is too expensive for little graphical bling. I'd rather have a High setting on Grass. But that too eats too much fps, so I set that on Low too. DCS clouds is much better looking. But I shudder how much fps it will eat up. But then again, DCS ground is not the best either, since most of the time player will be on the air anyway
dcs ground is only really taxing for me on the newer maps high on vegetation like Normandy v2.0, but even then i still get plus 60 fps the performance of dcs was substanially boosted across the board for the community since multithreading update

grass is a good question - I'm sure this has been discussed multiple times, since it was obvious from the start of Reforger that grass visibility is gone after X meters. Which leads to the absurd fact that enemies are more visible at a distance than at close range. Someone can hide in grass, but be easily spottable from 800 meters. Especially with scopes, since they have weird LOD settings (and can see thru rain and fog). I understand that it's for performance reasons that you can't do rendering of thousands of grass cards at a distance just to possibly obscure infantry. But I'm wondering if there's work in progress in Enfusion engine to make entity visibility at a distance more realistic, when covered by grass? I mean one cheap dumb trick could even be some kind of post processing effect that makes a soldier kinda transparent, maybe with a crosshatch pattern or something. Basically, render the obscuration, without adding more polys to render?
tbh you could do something silly like look up if the soldier is over a surface that should have grass and add a transparent grass image mask under them or something

the mask thing even sounds like it might not look too bad honestly, if the mask is well made. it might also handily take into account the addition of helos, i.e. soldiers could be well hidden from POV near horizon, but very visible from above

Arma 1 used a grass layer I think (or was it Arma 2), its like a flat texture non colliding that sits above a fixed height. When someone goes prone, he is hidden somewhat. But the problem was the grass layer was fixed height, lets say knee/ankle high. So if someone hide in a taller grass, the grass layer still render at knee high, and still expose him. Maybe current technology can varies the height somewhat...
Arma 3 simply sink your character into the terrain. The problem is for the shooter, you have to aim higher because from shooter POV, the target is sunken, but the real position is still on ground... like water mirage.

Havent had this game installed in months -is it capable of even the simplest Operation Flashpoint missions yet like Ambush?
Things that won't work from Ambush
- no Houdan because no Malden
- no AI driving to Lolise
- no BMP reinforcement to the first area of contact
- no infantry reinforcement to first area of contact or Houdan
- no armor counter attack because of no AI driving and no armor
- no helicopter pickup because no helicopters or AI flying
- no m113 reinforcement
- no AI taking you to the drop off point in the 5t truck
You can almost do steal the car (on Everon) but technically there is an AI flown helicopter in it
Clean Sweep is also knocked out because of the Extraction helicopter plus lack of suppressed weapons but you don't technically need that. Clean Sweep 2 has an AI driven BMP so that's out... pretty much every mission had AI driving in it so until that’s in most ofp missions are out and even then a lot of them are still out for other reasons
And Kolgujev, tanks, AI driving, etc.
AI driving is also used if you fail to prevent the crews from getting to the tanks if I remember it correctly. BTRs could play a similar role I guess but makes it a bit easy since you can fire rifle bullets through the side and kill the crew or knock them out with 1 LAW easily.
AI had RPGs I and I think you had a choice of what to take but I could be wrong

people have BIG expectations for arma 4, if they didnt stress test their new engine like they are now it would end in a complete flop, once reforger is compete BI will have the experience with using enfusion and a solid game they can base arma 4 on, with arma 3 they could base it off arma 2 due to its engine but no they have started from scratch, you gotta make something small and improve from that and that is the mission for reforger
Why do they make us pay for reforger if its a stress test. Too include any person who owns Arma Reforger it will cause them just too technically pay for the same game twice.
but reforger isnt the same game, you coudl compare this situation to the previous arma titles, first you had Cold war assault, it had limited assets and mechanics but from that engine they improved and later made the first Arma and the Arma 2 which were awesome games, bi has to do this all over again with a fresh new engine
also i personaly would rather give the new engine a test now and let the devs iron out the problems instead of wait another 10 years and receive a beautiful arma 4 that cant handle multiplayer and crashes every 5 seconds

i know they are very different games and it differs per person but i personally would pour WAY more hours into arma than COD
And I'm not suggesting A4 won't be or shouldn't be $50+. I'm just stating that a large portion of this community still live off memories of A3 launch, and think 10 years hasn't transpired since then. Prices of games have gone up considerably. Today, $30 is a bargain for a game I get as many hours out of as I have.

Warzone is free. I've actually played it a significant amount more than Reforger at this point which I never would have thought possible. Last time I even bought a CoD was CoD 1 and I think I got that for Christmas the same year as OFP

i disagree, while i do think that the arma 3 clouds were shaped more realistically, i think that reforgers clouds manipulate the lighting way more accurately, they also truly feel volumetric arma 3's felt meh, only problem i have with reforgers is the outline that you get around the edge of objects that obscure the sky, it makes overcast missions feel weird especially seeing that glowing line around a treeline, so there is still work that needs to be done
arma 3 clouds changed their shape depending on the camera angle which was just horrible
like if you panned the camera you could see the clouds dancing

These are most likely the original clouds from DayZ, so just dusting off an old concept. Moreover, their rendering is buggy.

And they also move strangely on the screen in all directions, the most visible it is when you are driving a car
yeah it is very noticeable in cars, but also whel looking at a treeline that borders the sky or a radio tower on an overcast day, you can even see the artefacts in the environment trailer video

Is there any fix for server comms issues? We get more than 32 players on and our comms go to trash. Testing a few options without removing mods. Did a test with Vanilla radios and use of the comm truck, crystal clear comms and then we got 44 people on the server and they went to trash. It is a modded server, just curious if anyone knows a fix? Any known mods that impact communications via radios?
You should bring that issue up with your hosting provider before here tbh, if you paid people for your server and you aren't able to access it go to the people you are paying for your server.
Also you gave nobody any info on the error codes you were receiving anyway.. so just bring it up with the server host you use

Your multiplayer performance will differ from singleplayer based on your connection, other than that I would recommend turning off depth of field, turning environment quality to low and maybe reducing the render scale by 5 - 10% and then enabling Super rez

It will make the graphics look much more crisp while using the render scale bellow 100% at a minimal performance hit
I recommend using full screen no window so you can adjust render scale better

I'm not sure how can I improve my reforger FPS? Since launch I had many problems with low fps and I think my rig should handle atleast high settings.

I have a worse gpu & cpu than you and the game runs 60+ FPS with mixed settings. So most likely you have something wrongly set or some problems in the system.

Okey I just tested this. It seems its tied to your monitor refresh rate. I set mine from 144 to 50, so its stuck at 50

This is rather not a problem, the problem is that if you look around normally you have less than 60 FPS (ideally 75 to match monitor frequency).
If the upper limit is 75Hz/FPS it's ok, vsync prevents various issues like screen tearing and the like.
You can try such general advice as deleting the game profile in the documents (as the settings are bugged often somehow), clearing the shader cache, updating the drivers and so on

I'm just dumb, everything looked prety much the same besides anti aliasing because it was off but guess what, If I even turn it to just 2x my game runs the same.
Turning it off helps performance a lot but also degrades the visual graphics by a lot not making it very pleasing to look at
Even with full anti-aliasing you should have at least some 60 FPS. I don't use it, it looks practically the same on my monitor, I only have it turned on for grass and trees (2x).
It's annoying as heck that I can't play with good looking graphics and FPS while others with same or even worse specs can. Honestly no idea. Recently did a benchmark to see if my GPU CPU is faulty or anything but nope 100% score on everything.

I can't think of any recent games but I don't have any major performance problems like I do in reforger.

for Arma, recommended hardware is for 25-30 FPS, as usual, at medium settings - not 60 FPS high settings
Never gonna understand why because medium is not what I would rate as recommended
in Arma, 25-30 FPS medium/standard settings were considered as good enough, thus recommended
there's no way pc players see 30 fps and go "mhm this is great" in the past decade

well, Reforger actually works much much better than A3 and the better the hardware or the lower the settings, the higher is the FPS, unlike in A3
i run laptop 3060 and get around 40-50 FPS singleplayer, still better than A3
and that despite mobile RTX 3060 being slower than desktop RTX 3060 and with a worse laptop CPU than his Ryzen 7000
yeah i run i7-10750H, it does a decent job but being a laptop it has its thermal issues...

Game can get 80+ easily when walking around far from other players, can still maintain that fps in smaller gunfights at a small map like arland. However, you will drop to 30fps when there is a proper gunfight, especially inside a town. Hell, I would drop to 30 on Everon just passing thought montignac when there are few players nearby.

because you can have the best GPU and CPU in the world, but they will be let down by your RAM since RAM prepairs data for the CPU to deliver it to the GPU.

If I can get over 60 fps on goddamn cyberpunk at ultra, then I should be able to run arma too. anything else is a fail on the game side, not the players spec.
like if you compare 3200 MHz CL16 vs. 3600 MHz CL18 or 4400 MHz CL22 - FPS will be virtually the same, withing margin of error.
because, from 1 side, frequency is better, but from the other, timings are also worse, so the result stays +- same.
the real FPS boost is when RAM frequency is much higher, but timings are same as they were at much lower frequency or even better.
so you've increased RAM frequency, without worsening the timings (keeping them same as they ware at much lower frequency) or even improved them, despite much higher frequency
my RAM is at CL15, so 15-16-15 and not at 3200 MHz, but at 4300 MHz.
that's a very very big difference

that helps to keep min FPS at a much much higher value than most people
There are very few people who buy an expensive mainboard, expensive RAM and then try to experiment with it somehow. Moreover BIOSes are bugged, especially those from AMD (AGESA), so it takes hours to debug anything there. In addition, it all depends on the piece of hardware you currently have. It does meet some specifications, but the variability is quite large.
overclocking/tuning hardware is for sure not for everyone and it doesn't excuse Arma for being how it is, but helps really really a lot.
and for that you don't even need expensive RAM and motherboard.
you just need to know what relatively unexpensive motherboard and RAM have a lot of hidden headroom and are sold for a good price, because they aren't overclocked from factory at all
you can have relatively unexpensive 3200 MHz sticks that will do like 4700 MHz on air or 5600 MHz sticks that will do like 9000 MHz on air
also any* RAM sticks will work on any* motherboard and they don't have to be on the list of compatible/tested sticks models on that specific motherboard, as long as you know how to set it all up.
there are even sticks that don't have any XMP profile with frequency and timings and have no heatsinks - really cheap OEM green sticks from China , but they can OC like hell, if you set all the voltages, timings and frequency yourself + separately purchased heatsinks
you can't compare Cyberpunk to Arma, like at all.
majority of stuff is scripted, so it doesn't have to be calculated in real time, like in Arma and there is very very very little stuff that has to be simulated (CPU/RAM heavy), unlike in Arma + there is no netcode, so it's similar to playing Arma in singleplayer.
and even in singleplayer in Arma, you have so so much stuff that has to be simulated/calculated

It is a very simple concept. If a 3k PC can't run the game, then that game will never be considered finished.
by the time Reforger will move to 1.0, there will be mid-range hardware for half of that price that will perform even better than your current hardware

reforger has a few interesting quirks on its own like a built-in memory limit that you can't raise that results in waiting for things to load because it's waiting for things to unload
so it doesn't matter if you have 64 gb ram you're still going to see furniture floating in mid-air in cities while you wait for the building to load

Intel is about to drop a fully new architecture with very very fat cache by the end of 2024 and nVidia with RTX 5000
don't forget that if devs would do Cyberpunk graphics + usual Arma scale and capabilities, no NASA PC will be able to handle that.
for multiplayer games, graphics have to be nice enough, but not more than that, when it's about shooters + large scale

Arma 4 will have a lot more content and feel more like a game (if it goes well). This erases the hardware difference.
Intel has big problems to come up with something new, Meteor lake will be just another refresh with high power consumption even though they presented it as a new architecture for years. It will take a long time before something really changes in that company.
The large scale stuff in arma is subjective, to me there is no large scale in reforger yet because there is no hardware strong enough to run at least 128 players with ai over everon

I would say that it can be compared to any open world game. Multiplayer adds extra complexity, but more in terms of the difficulty of how to do it than in terms of hw requirements.
It is true that the 3D scene in Reforger is much clearer than in other games. That is, except for the shortcomings of the renderer, which has big problems with horizontal and vertical lines and because of this the image "shakes" a lot.

Most of this is simulated by the server and not the client.
AI, pathfind and similar things have the biggest impact.

On that chart you can see that the 3060 is +2% and the 3060 Ti is +30%, that's about the range where it should go 1080p 60 FPS within a standard game without mods (64 players + AI?).

CPU and especially RAM OC helped really a lot
On the RX 6600 XT with a few things on high/ultra, it runs a rather stable 60+ FPS in 1080p, although of course in some situations it drops to 50 and rather rarely to 40 FPS.
When it rains and you are in the base, there are problems. But I would say that mainly because of the bugged particle effects.

and i have told you that part of such optimization (the majority) comes from assets and shaders optimizations rather than adding a demanding feature like ray tracing. Sure there is a rendering pipeline that could in theory get some updates, but generally speaking the thing that matters the most are still the average draw calls
