Hi, last week one of our developer made a post on Arma 3 forum and fowarded the link to discord, then being banned.
I didnt reading that post before it was deleted, and he cant think up why it is forbidden. We would like to know why to avoid this happening next time.
His forum username is DouziDoge. The post was about pbr support something in Arma 3, and introduced some handy tools.

I dont think this should result in a permanent ban without a warning. Neither do we uploaded the model, nor the video's main focus is telling people how to rip the model.

By the way, it is always said by eastern country people that BI is being racist to East-Asian countries, because they can find many long lasted stolen contents on workshop, but their own publish are much more easily being taken down. Though they should be taken down, the long lasted pirated contents do make the rule unclear.

And there are also many other totally originated things, like VME, KA Weapons Pack, being reported and immediately taken down without carefully digging by moderators and without a detailed proof provided to the author. Most of them are allowed to be re-published after things make clear. This also emphasis the racist thing.

First, there are some long lasted bad examples on Workshop. BI might have missed them before. As BI has already aware of them, they should be taken down according to the rules. also know that STEAM is the first one that should reply to this, DICE should be the one to DMCA it. BI tries to keep everything clean, and if we don't know everything, we try and act on what we know and have at hand.

he did use "show off" about using a ripped model for your tutorial, aka "look at us, we give you lessons with a ripped model" — this is not related to your tutorial's quality at all.
Regarding Dedmen's claim that another "original mod" (I guess you mean 2856217998?) was a rip, I trust his judgement for he has a lot of experience; he is not unable to eventually make mistakes, but without the files now there is nothing to do.

As a final note, all you have to do on your side is to clean up your act, not use rips nor mingle with rippers, and report intellectual property infractions as they are suddenly important to you now.
and if it is necessary to say it, no, BI does not target "eastern asians" or whatever more or less; BI Steam moderators act on the basis of knowledge, confirmation and termination. who, what and when it was uploaded is not even taken into consideration.

Yes, that is the main argument. The tutorial does not contain anything about teaching people how to rip the content. The content is provided as-is, we are just using it.

I guess some people are not on the same channel with us. Let me make things clear.
We totally agree that the tutorial contains ripped contents from Battlefield 2042, and we totally agree that post should be taken down. We are not arguing about this.
And I point out we have not uploaded the ripped contents anywhere, we just wrongly choose the wrong model as an example, so we think the post should be take down, but the account should not be immediately banned permanently. We don't agree, but we accept this. And Dedmen uses the word show off to describe our tutorial. We don't agree, but judging from the bad influence we have made by using a ripped content, we partially accept this. We are not arguing about this, either.
But when I point out we do not uploaded the ripped contents anywhere, Dedmen posted a link and said that ripped content is uploaded to workshop. Once we checked, we found the link points to our originated mod, and the ripped content is not uploaded there at all. We are arguing about this. Because Dedmen accused our originated mod as a stolen one, without any proof. That's why Dedmen, aka BI, is said being racist to(taken from people's word, I personally disagree) differently treating Chinese devs. That's why we are arguing.

Everyone banned gets a ban messages with the reason, maybe he already deleted it not wanting to read it, or sometimes people are not willing to share details why they got banned to get a "victim" role among friends, either way he knows, and ban is for 90 days and stays in place for breaking our rules/ discord TOS.

Hey so I recently upgraded my phone that had the 2FA app on it, and the data didn't transfer to the other phone since that's how microsoft authenticator works. And now I'm locked out of my Arma account on the website since I can no longer access my authenticator app on said phone because my data has been wiped.

MS authenticator allows you to transfer data and it works, you just have to select Start recovery in your app or whatever and you should be able to recover your data to your new phone.

Should I make a ticket or something for this?

When playing Arma on a 32:9 monitor. It will randomly turn on triple head mode when going into video settings. It does not do it every time. To fix, I need to open my settings file and change triple head back to 0.

I'm unsure as to where I can post this, but I've made a project called Bohemia Interactive Mod Manager, I currently have two scripts in there written in powershell, one is to take a preset file and output the modlist which can then be thrown into a server config file, and the other which I recently finished takes two preset files and merges them together into one, creating one large modlist

I have a guy in my unit that owns a Mac and wants to play Modded Arma 3.

He has Subscribed to all of the Mods that we use but they don't auto-load and he had no Launcher besides the Steam Launcher.

Why does my server list keep deminishing?? I start the game and go to SERVER BROWSER > OFFICIAL SERVER tab and they're all there. Then I go into a server, and when I come out, there's only half the number of servers. Then when I go into another server or click on a different tab and come back there's nothing there until I restart Arma from the Launcher. This has been happening all year. It was never like this before; maybe like 5 updates ago. Why's it doing this!??

Most of the moderating I used to do, was hours of clicking through IP ranges (that I keep asking to get banned because they are full of spambots and nothing else) and clicking ban on all the accounts.

Hi, I‘m the guy that has been handeling the bots on the forum since 2019 as volunteer work. Since then, the number of daily bot has risen a bit, but it’s mostly steady.
Now since the beginning of this year, I am no longer in a position to provide this work around the clock for free, which is necessary as one has to react quickly to new bot posts (<1hr after a bots first post).
If you have any questions let me know.

Per year I reviewed around 6000 posts (17/day)
Wich resulted in banning on avrg around 250 bots per month (8/day). The newly created inactive bots (133/day) are mostly ignored.
I developed some software to make this easier.

Often a single bot, when left alone, will create 500 individual threads within 6hrs, which makes it practically impossible to use the forum, as the banned users/posts remain visible for moderators and clog up all of the tools.

The review queue overflows with 100 posts per day (currently over 800) each taking at least 15s on avrg to clean up. (Banned users and removed posts stay in the queue for whatever reason).
So the trick is to ban them before this happens.

For the community I am sorry that I can longer assist with this task. Let’s hope BI will finally react to my suggestions to improve the forum.

I also hope it's now a good incentive, for someone with the ability, to finally do something about it.

The bots appear to be manually created, they mostly originate from some Vietnam farms. Some just type "adadasadada" etc in their posts, or make other human like mistakes.

Our forum is also quite outdated. The last forum update was 2017 I think? So probably everything including the anti spam plugins are horribly outdated. They probably have nobody taking care of it at BI anymore.

Howdy. understand that a DDOS attack isn’t something you planned for, but after more than a week of near-total downtime and this barebone update... I’ve lost confidence in the product’s availability.

In most cases, multiplayer games recover from DDOS attacks within a few days with proper mitigation. Major titles have faced similar issues and typically restore service within 24-72 hours.

Do you know if Bohemia honoring refunds given the circumstances?

Agreed. The forum is 25 years old, a huge collection of knowledge and history. Discord can’t compete with that (a deleted channel is gone forever). It really pains me to watch every 15 seconds a new bot post come in.
At minimum they could have closed registration or limit posting for new users.

I’m just hoping that BI is just preoccupied with more important stuff on e.g. reforger atm and will address this once things have calmed down a bit.

Nobody can help with that.
Bots are probably just spamming the API causing some rate limiter to trigger. You probably just gotta keep trying.
Once signed in the session is valid for a year iirc.

Currently we are getting around 5-6k bot threads per day (and even more posts/status updates etc).
On avrg 1x every 10-20s.

Havent heared anything, but they will probably:

  • update the forum
  • remove recent bot posts
  • add a new way of signing in that requires account purchases or similar for verification

might take them a few weeks to work out - but better to do it properly than rushing it.

Here's what I did, I verified my BI email even though I usually sign in through steam,

this time I signed in with only that email, reset the password, used authenticator google app.

signed out of workshop, signed back in using BI email instead of letting steam do it automatically.

changed GUID, unplublished and republished, still seeing it, no big deal I just put my discord contact in the description. Might take a few days to reset the name or a few hours like you said.

Sure. Maintenance due to spams. This screen now is a usual simple picture, without any details about progress, timeline, hope for back to normal situation, improvements.... At this time, that looks like abandoned. Discord is not the best place for finding or editing a specific topic. Quick and dirty as a chat, but not really convenient for a search. Perhaps, I'm too old for that and I pay attention for relationship.

At the very least, the forums could be put into read-only mode. This shouldn't actually require hours of work and would allow us to use the forums as a reference or solution aid. Discord doesn't even come close to what has been written in the forums in recent years.
As for the spam bots, there have been moderators in the past who did this job quite well, but... okay.

I can only share that the forum mod team has no additional info to share, we just know its in the hands of the IT team - which we as volunteers have no contact to.
We were not even informed when they shut down the forum, and we have been for a long time recommended to just close the sign ups for new users/restrict posting.
I’m just assuming that the shutdown is related to the infrastructure changes.

All we know is that it will probably take a while before we will see progress here.

The cleanup also probably won’t be handled by the IT team, and probably not by us mods either… it’s simply too much work to do for free. So I’m not sure what gonna be done.

I think the situation hasn’t changed much since after BohemiaBeck left BI in early 2018. Back then he consistently managed updates to the Forum, rules, structure, the Units page, and other areas. Both from a Community side and the backend IT side.
Since then, there haven’t been any notable updates (last update was end 2017), which might explain the current state of things - and nobody felt responsible to do much about it.
Maybe this discord ate those internal resources/attention… who knows.

I really hope that the forum is staying with us at least in a read-only format. It's just an incredible archive on different topics. Server setups, best mission practices, game troubleshooting and etc.

It won’t die, but my guess is they working to upgrade it. Probably not easy due to db size, some custom plugins (BI integration), etc..
Other infrastructure like the Reforger game server probably still require a lot of their attention too, so this will drag on a bit.

Keep in mind that our forums are ancient with some threads from before the year 2000. There’s dozens of faulty data in it, that has been carried over from version to version. Upgrading it is probably not that easy.

We just have to be patient and give them the time they need to get it running for another 25+ years.

I haven't heard anything about moving to a different server, and couldn't think of any reason why we would need to do that?
It was closed because the spam was too much, and we needed to work on the spam prevention measures.
Which is EXACTLY what the maintenance page on the forums tells you.

No-one said anything about moving servers, or upgrading or whatever.
"due to overwhelming spam" that is the reason.

For instance you can create forms for players to fill out to request stuff, and when they click submit the form goes to a channel you set up. In our case we have about 5-6 "dashboard" channels that are viewable by admins only

Captcha is already there and didn't work. These were all using the bohemia account system (and turning off the forums doesn't prevent spam accounts from being created in there)

I also understand the read-only mode. Hope they keep it online at least - otherwise tons of invaluable ressources and knowledge (scripting, editing, etc.) would be lost forever.

On the project releasing side of things I still ask myself how to go on. The forums for me were the first place to release my stuff (SP missions and campaigns) and to have the possibility to present it properly. Steam Workshop doesn't get there IMO, as your entry is one of 10000000, among other reasons. In the forums you could be a bit more present and visible and everything was more "centralized" - if you get what I mean.
I guess we as producers have to adapt, but still I'm asking myself, how. 😄 An own discord server perhaps. Another website / database?

Like to approve known people with relevant BI forum post history seems OK (unless the forum software state is not tight/doesnt allow that/accounts were/could be stolen).

Having this discord be a replacement for the forums is incredibly short sighted IMO, It's rare that I can ask a question without it being buried in minutes here, and vice versa, can't help others with problems you may have solutions to unless you come across it by accident.

I sure hope this isn't the direction things are headed, great to have the forums back all the same.

that is good to know! it makes it more tough for sure. but it is still a possibility in the event an employee is compromised and that account is found in their notes or something. it still makes the risk of keeping all of this data in a discord much higher than other ways, imo. and when a discord server is gone, it's gone. if your forum servers, for example, are hit then recovery is always possible if you designed your DR correctly. the data in here is gold for us so i just fear for it and probably think to deep into it lol.

there are large veteran forums out there that have been around since like 2000 and are still running strong without spam. it's possible to do that. but i know the BI team has hashed it out enough though on their side and they probably have many reasons for the decision. i respect that. i just fear for the data and all of the hard work everyone has put into it.

Click on the accounts IP address.
Filter it down to a /16 range.
898 accounts, all from bangladesh, every account on the first 3 pages is a spam account.

From accounts like "fdagfdsgfdghs" that are literally just garbage, to betting platform/casino ads.

Also something that a forum could do nicely that discord doesn't.
If you don't want spam, Just ban Bangladesh/India/Vietnam, and 90% of the spam will be gone.

Oh and you want to opt out? ofcourse you can...
you just have to run a command in a server which has the bot... (which requires you to verify with the bot, unless you add it to your own server) and you would have to do it on every discord account

Though I'd consider doing our own bot that does that, but only for new discord accounts (less than say 2-5 months old). As that would catch 90% of the scammers.
But the way to implement that, would still give scammers enough space to spam people with friend requests and scam them as soon as they accept. So not really muc hpoint

i have something to say,how come there are so many people focused on DDOS'ing community servers? how come so many people servers are vulnerable for such attacks, how come so much power is handed over to those who would like to disrupt communities, and damage people experence. How come there is such a struggle to find someone to take action to prevent such atrocities, its difficult to reach out and have any information to hold weight. To be acknowledged for an issue that needs to be resolved is nonexistent and needs to be changed.

DDoS is an easy method to kick a badly protected target offline.

DDoS protection costs money. Most don't want to pay it, and many providers don't even offer it.

No idea what all your other stuff is even related to.
Every hosting provider offers easy to contact support, why would it be difficult to reach out?

Community forum website for arma reforger is offline. Discord ticket applies to discord bans only. The ban also does not specify anything about battleye.

You and others were reported in mid-February for griefing and intentionally digging up friendly bases and laying mines in spawn areas to sabotage the game and were issued a temp ban. This temp ban was determined via video evidence.

I've gone ahead and lifted the ban after re-reviewing the evidence, since you've probably sat out long enough at this point.

Just please, in the future, be mindful of the gameplay experience of those around you in multiplayer and how you could be ruining it by trolling or griefing them.

I'm currently working on an original game idea called LMZ (Last Minute Z), a very early concept for an immersive survival/outbreak title with a strong faction focus. I don't have a playable prototype yet, but I do have a rough concept and some pitch material.

Maybe they thought you were on PC, in which cheating bans would be handed out by BattlEye. But I think it specifically tells you its a BattlEye ban? I haven't seen one in Reforger, in Arma 3 it states it clearly.

I posted the video because it was the right thing to do. If you know me or follow my content, it's made abundantly clear who I am and what I stand for. Pretending to chalk it up as "joking" is just you trying to walk back what you said. To be clear, I did not ban you or report you.

I’m not walking back anything, I’m a Cuban immigrant and ironically play that character in game as a long running joke (there’s video evidence of this long before you strolled into the legacy server, you got involved because you could grandstand and get likes for your content and tagged Bohemia knowing they’d see it, that was your intent.

I get it, people always fall back on ‘just joking’ when they get called out. But the reality is, in that moment, it wasn’t a joke and trying to brush it off now is just laziness. People know exactly what they were doing, and it’s time to face the real impact. My intention isn’t to get decent people banned or punished for things they didn’t knowingly do, but in this case, you fully understood what you were saying, you thought it was funny, and it’s not. There’s zero tolerance for that, and people need to face the consequences.

It’s really weird that Bohemia banns people because they have friends, and anybody who’s feelings get hurt or doesn’t play well with the rest of the group can just come to one of you and they get permanently banned instead of them going and finding another server

That guy has been trying for weeks to figure out what's going on, and why. Probably works all day and wants to wind down with a video game afterward. From what I just read through, all of your responses have either been snarky, or condescending. Then when he gets fed up, you mute him. Also, touch grass? Really? You're a discord mod, who are you kidding? lol

Very disappointing to see how arbitrarily and disrespectfully you handled that.
It seems obvious that he's on the mark when referencing Boneheadz video, which he made members only, because the comments have been flaming him and his hyperventilating over a trivial comment in an online video game.

It’s not random and unproven…we’ve literally had @charred sluice come into the server and start perma banning people because someone private messaged him that we kept kicking him cause he was digging up radio relays, then that person started to make alt accounts with unnoticeable differences to our gamer tags trying to get us banned

Is it within your ability to get him the answer he was looking for? If so, why not just do so, instead of asking him if HE knows why he got banned, when he's been asking why he got banned since March? What else can he do but speculate? Lol. If not, then I get why you're fed up hearing about it. Either way, stonewalling someone while also patronizing them is usually liable to make them crash out, especially on the internet. It's like pouring gas on a fire and then complaining that it's too hot.
There's one thing that stands out in making these games fun to play - and it's certainly not BI's reputation for server stability or comically persistent bugs. It's the community.

I emailed Bohemia support which is what I was told to do, they sent me to battle eye and said they didn’t ban me, battle eye never responded, so I went nanny Bohemia they asked what my gamertag was I provided it and never heard back, I have this all in emails/screenshots I just can’t share them here

I just spoke about what happened, and bringing up Nazis and defending that under “free speech” isn’t a strong argument; there are clear lines where that kind of behavior isn’t protected and isn’t tolerated.
