The objects, weapons and gear from all the DLCs (not creator DLCs) are already in the game. So you can join servers having those in it. You just can't play on the terrain of APEX or Contact DLC.

I can't tell, as I have all of the DLCs and CreatorDLC. My collection is complete. But you can join servers that use DLC items. You will just be restricted in using them. And have to find/use basegame stuff. You can't join servers on their terrain though.

DId you only do the prologue/bootcamp? Or the rest of the VR-training in the tutorial menu. That explains a lot more about hte game. And then there are the showcases in the singleplayer menu to try it all out in the real worlds.

As for what to do on a server. That is up to each server to explain. Or what requirements are there in their procedures.

Just make sure you search for a server through the launcher server browser. As then you can still download mods needed for any server and start the game with it. When you are already in the game you can't change that and might get booted for having the wrong ones.

I have Ryzen 5 2600x (3.6 base, 4.2 boost) and I am stuck around 40 FPS on average multiplayer experience and unstable 60 in singleplayer. With your CPU I'd assume you'll see mostly 30 frames. GPU doesn't really matter at all, I've seen people capable of playing Arma 3 in 1440p on a GTX 970, game is playable on an integra too. CPU and fast RAM is all that matters to be honest

I need some help with my key bindings.

I'm currently trying to change the formation of my AI squad by pressing the ~ key and the 8 key. But for some reason, when pressing 8, I see instead, on the right side of the screen, what I assume to be the grenade throw mode which changes between "drop grenade", "normal throw", "high throw" and "precise throw".

I've tried to look for it in the options menu --> controls --> weapons and in the other sections and I can't seem to find where to change that.

I think the biggest deliniation I can give is that milsim assumes some level of organization outside of the game, compared to Casual. Casual games pick up and drop at a whim, milsim at least requires some enforced organization - even if it's as light as 'stick with your team and have a good time' or as strict as 'salute when addressing a superior.'

Like, you wouldn't call Arma Life a milsim server, and I'd argue a public antistasi game is only a light milsim at best.

Only servers on the terrain of DLCs actually need them. If scenario or gamemode a server only uses DLC gear and vehicles then it is a bad server. It should always have alternative stuff to use.

Afaik it blocks extensions, so mods like TFAR/ACRE will not work (They won't work anyway cuz you can't run teamspeak), mods like ACE might have issues or some missing features.
If you don't run ACE/TFAR/ACRE then there shouldn't be any issues

To host a server or a game session locally, you need to make sure first that your WAN address / external IP uses the IPv4 protocol!
Check your router’s status page in the settings to confirm. (If in doubt, ask your ISP, Websites like “whatismyip.com” give you a false positive!)
Local servers and games can not be hosted on an IPv6 network, or IPv4 via DSlite tunnel!

ARMA 3 is unbeatable for content and worlds.

Reforger is more new, and better FPS handling - but its basically a early access like game at the moment.

Not super buggy, not like it was - The service couldn't stay up for more than 20 minutes.

The only real downside to Reforger at the moment is just the lack of depth. After about 40-70 hours, you may get bored of running around with the same guns and the limited workshop content at the moment.

But you just put it on the shelf and come back in a few months and will be new stuff.

Yes exactly. Usually it's like taking over the map kind of game mode. So everyone works together to take out the AI and people spawn in and spawn out and it doesn't require too much insane teamwork.

If you're going to do co-op or detailed missions you got to do them with friends.

@boreal hazel - PvP is not ARMA3s strong suit. It's generally focused on big worlds, equipment, Grand scale battle.

Plus the lethality of modern combat and modern weapons, You got smoked at like 2 km away. So when you play PVP it's just a whole bunch of everyone shooting from the bushes. Which is like real combat. You'll never really see what you're shooting at - outside of urban combat.

So it gets pretty tedious for newcomers, because they just die. Walk die walk die walk.

Reforger is going to be a lot more aggressive/closer quarters. It's PVP is actually fairly decent. It's just lacking an overall content but they're working on it.

Well I can't speak for you. But if I didn't own Arma 3, and I really wanted to play giant battles - and try out a whole different pile of weaponry and stuff - I get it on super discount which I think it still is at the moment.

But if you want the future, and you don't mind missing out on the Arma experience of the old.

Then get yourself Reforger.

If you do get Arma 3, Apex DLC at least. It's really well done and the jungle island is a lot of fun. I've spent hundreds of hours just walking in the jungle. The contact one is kinda neat, from a story standpoint - Also a great Ukrainian looking map.

Absolutely. Reforger's just a temporary till Arma 4 comes out. They say they're not going to turn reforger into Arma. 4, but I'm going to guess they're going to do something because people are going to get cranky to have to " buy another game "

The best thing about MilSim games is that your weapons actually hurt people. You can cover and you can hold large areas of ground if you have good shooting skills. Unlike call of duty where you have to put half a clip into somebody and then he just runs away.

Well you're definitely getting something better than squad. Squad just battlefield reskinned. With reforger you're getting the engine that's going to be Arma 4 eventually.

They're going to just keep building this game up to a point, and transition to Arma 4. It sounds like.

But you're still going to get Two to 5 years out of this, and then you're going to transition to basically the same thing but with a whole crapload of content. That's whatever flavor Arma 4 is going to be (I don't know what era they're going to try for - maybe they'll simulate the Chinese conflict of the future? Or maybe it will be based on Russia, Ukraine at the moment, or maybe NATO? Who knows)

Squad is dated, and it's too much like battlefield for my liking - but some people like the more cartoony PvP. Call of duty and warzone is still popular (and people still play pubg and fortnite)

I don't see why it would. The game just continues to get content patches as it moves along towards the Arma 4 "point".

Think of this game like Early Access. Devs are still adding content to it. Engine is relatively half done. And then they add content with every new engine feature to show it off/ give you something to play with.

The only thing you need to know are the keys for voice and chat. And you'll get used to a little bit of the bugginess when it comes to spawning.

Yeah and the servers that you mentioned are the heavily modded popular ones, they're going to have a whole bunch of mods that change the game - but it's really for people that know what they're doing cuz there's like zero team work.

Official servers won't have a lot of teamwork, everyone will be mostly newbie so it'll be much better.

Textures most likely. Of vehicles, uniforms and weapons probably. But that all depends on which mod it is you are talking about. You know which server you are trying to join, the launcher explains which mods you need for that.

Don't play with mods when you intend to play the vanila Bohemia Interactive made scenarios and campaign. It might screw up the scripting.

As for loosing the progress at all, that might be because the game crashed or something else disrupted the saving of your profile data. Which may be because of mods, but could also be due to user error (Alt F4-ing to close the game, /Alt-Tab-ing to minimise and it does not recover requiring taskmanager to shut it down) or something in the Windows/operating system causes the save to fail.

There is a cheat code that allows to unlock all the campaign levels so you can skip into one further down the line. See https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3:_Cheats You don't gain from redoing the prologue/bootcamp levels, other than learning how the game works. But if you skip some of the beginning scenarios of the campaign you might loose out on some of the goodies you might have picked up along the way and can collect back at base to use in the next scenario.

(And what POLPOX wrote. There are only 5 scenarios to that bootcamp/prologue. The rest of the campaign starts through the singleplayer/campaing menu. And the bootcamp/prologue can be found there aswel.)

Yea that's not normal. Things like this means a bug in a loop somewhere. Basically something needs to "timeout" or its overloading the stream - and the result is heavily degraded performance.

If the mods are removed, and performance returns. Then it's the mods interacting.

However, those mods are known to be decent, but perhaps there's an interaction problem as the other guy noted with drivers.

Ok, then it is hardware. Unless with "unloaded" you mean deleting the folder. Then the launcher will put it right back when you start the game. Unchecking in the launcher, or unsubscribe, is the method.

Don't those servers have some kind of information on the map or at spawn? If you join random servers then it is likely a gamble on what sort of scenario it plays. Often there is a keyword in the name of the server of what style it is. But mostly you should find some information on the map that is shown. Some pre-brief/tasking orders.

That said, I am also not much of a multiplayer player. I focus more on singleplayer scenarios, or multiplayer scenarios that I can solo on my own.

I am playing a multi player game with a friend of mine on antistasis ultimate and i managed to open a menu where i could spawn in any vehicle, infantry unit or anything like that however i cannot for the life of me remember how i did it

Antistasi has its own community and Discord, there should be a link in #channel_invites_list. Remember there are multiple versions of Antistasi (like A. Ultimate) so make sure you use respective version and then a make a query in relevant community

Most current Antistasi flavours Community Mod, Ultimate and Plus are multiplayer only scenarios. So you won't find them in singleplayer scenarios. Needs to be started in a local server in the game. You can solo without anyone joining you if needed.

The "3fps bug" was just the state where Arma was bouncing up against its memory cap.

You're not likely to see it now because the default memory cap is much higher.

Then check out task manager, check if stuff like anti malware executable is eating your cpu and gpu

If not then it might be a faulty hardware

If there is a constant 21-37 percent CPU load and no applications take it, then it is the system doing that. Probably some update running in the background preparing for installation or something. If so, no point in blaming Arma 3 for it then.

Yeah I have no clue of what's happening and I might just wait it out, it's only been occurring for a day and reinstallation + checking for integrity hasn't done anything, along with installingthe optional updates
