This. I don't see it in the road map. I am very disappointed. I find farming on a large scale a horrible time consuming task. I hope I am just missing it, but it does not look like it is in the roadmap.
I need to be able to capture and ride the Wispwyvern. Game is entirely unplayable until then.

Frankly, the devs have already pulled off a lot of ambitious things with the game, and done it quite well and quickly. While I do not expect it to be released by the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did keep to their desired schedule anyway.
would you rather I go into the Steam backend right now and remove the Early Access banner and slap a 1.0 tag on it and say "the game is done", or have a roadmap chock-full of stuff and push back what was always presented as "about a year of early access, depending on how things go"?

A higher weapon levelling system would be nice. Found a badass gold bow last night on to surpass it's level and fin a green one with higher damage. Sadge....
Only mountains are confirmed to be coming, but that only accounts for like 1/3rd maybe, of the remaining as of now, unplayable area. That leads me to believe it's not dropping this year, doesn't seem too unreasonable of an assumption to me
we aim at adding content for all levels, not just high end, so if you want to experience all dungeons at their intended level, a new character might be more appropriate 👍
Scrap everything from now on, put 1.0 in, charge everything in the roadmap as DLC.

Such a weird notion man. I argue with people about that all the time. What is the difference between an game in ea for 10 years and a game that is released half baked and updated for 10 years? Like, sales impact one way or the other? Nothing that the end user notices
Blocks of differing angles are definitely on our list for future blocks we want to add :) For example 45 degree wall angles, or something like that. Would achieve the same effect.
Rotating off the grid would probably not be realistic, it's probably easier to visualize if you think of a game like minecraft. That game has much bigger voxels than ours, but works in a similar way. Placing minecraft blocks at 45 degree angles or something wouldn't make much sense :)

nothing is protected from anything ever. it would have to be trust based anyway

Well one of the flaws sort of works to the games advantage when it comes to that. Restarting is super super easy and fast.

@pliant quarry what about a higher leveling system for weapons. I found a legendary bow that fits my okay style but can't use it after I found it last night.

My guess is snowy mountains sooner than later since they are already at the edge if our current map
Yeah saves should be totally fine, we have no current plans to require players to restart their saves. If for whatever reason we think a major update might require this, we'd warn well in advance.
Because of how our world regeneration works, so long as new content is outside of the flame altar zone, the world should automatically update without needing to create a new save :)
It utterly blew my mind when I saw how pretty the world was and then learned it was all little tiny minecraft cubes.
Right, so even if there's only three biomes they need to add to fully finish the map, it's kind of dubious whether or not it'll all release this year

Based on your current building system, non-rectangular effects are like texture effects--they are all in the shader. Are improvements in texturing to allow better control over embellishments like ceiling and door arches, sills and frames, sloping, etc. what is meant by "better post processing" in the roadmap? Otherwise, I'm surprised not to see better shader control in the roadmap.

It'd be cool if you could like... "bless" a cleared town or area somehow, so that it remains safe and enemies don't respawn... so you can "populate" some cleared areas and leave others as enemy spawners
My point is mostly people complaining about the updates when the game is already enjoyable now :p You don't need to be a jerk about wanting a "more complete" version if the game you're playing now is fun already. And if you played through it, you can go enjoy a different game until you get a ping here telling you to enjoy the new content :p

They’re adding in farmable animals too so it’d make sense that there will be some time of idle animation for human npcs as well. Then again I could be stretching it farther 🤷🏻♂️

Based on the little thumbnail I think that post processing line item includes adding things like the ability to edit bloom (turn it off) and other settings....so we are not blinded by daylight coming from a dark space 😉

I just gotta say thanks and give kudos to Toast, Cool and Keen et al for being so active and engaging with the community. This is the most hands on/involved and direct/client facing i have seen from a game studio and i am very impressed, especially given how receptive to feedback and criticism they seem to be. I am so geeked for the new features and to explore more of this amazing world they’re crafting.
AI, pathing, skill tree, combat, mycelium network with complicated system of interconnecting pipes?

There's only one point I don't quite like on that roadmap, it's "instanced dungeons". Isn't one of the strengths that everything is part of the same world? New World did the same mistake and moved from one world to splitting it up. This does have a tax on immersion.
Hmm bigger map...means probably more flame altar stages then...means higher flame altars cap probably....means an even bigger city

It is really difficult to tell much from these thumbnails. Lighting improvements would be good; a common problem in building games. A more specific title would make more sense. My comment, however, was about improvement to rendering to give us control over texture effects that emulate structure. It makes for some really janky detail that can't easily be fixed.
There is 'enemy patrols' dont know what precisely that means but that might be included

lol, Some people grow up thinking criticism is more constructive than praise. Also, Keen is staffed mainly by adults I imagine so understanding that criticism can and should be constructive wouldn't be beyond them. Also, the bit about the formatting was mostly a joke to poke a little fun at some of the people in here complaining for the sake of it. Because I don't have anything better to do.

Quick question: is the issue where magic chests are inaccessible from a certain distance going to be looked at? Do the devs know about it? Currently, magic chests can't have their contents used if you're too far away from them (but still within the limits of the base).

Yeah I'll actually reinforce this lol, true water that interacts with the world in a voxel game is a big undertaking.
Valheim doesn't actually have "real" water so to speak, it's just a set water table and anything below that height is "underwater" as far as the game is concerned.
This wouldn't work for our game though because that would just mean every single cave was flooded lol

As cursed as it is, I can see water as being a Terrain block and not having gravity, it just allows you to swim inside of it

They could 'mask' parts of one cube to make it look triangle - but i dont think its a good idea for performance ^^

I'm really surprised combat improvements are not anywhere on the roadmap. Most of what is up there is either low-hanging fruit or non-gameplay issues. Combat is very laggy, user input can get buffered to the point of causing unrecoverable actions. "Performance improvements" are just too generic term to mean anything.
We dont have a 'when', we just got a 'will happen' on many things, which are good.
They cant always be clairvoyant with coding

This is not new. It is a common theme in EA sandbox survival titles that the first thing users "want" is to make that game just like very other game they have played. That's why so few of the ideas in the roadmap are either interesting or pertinent to the Enshrouded gameplay loop or universe.
It would be cool to have base raids biome dependent, or based on Shroud proximity. There could be rewards for clearing raids to give an incentive but those who don't want them could just build elsewhere. Sort of a more natural game system driven alternative to a settings checkbox.

I would like to assume if the devs thought griefing would be this much of an issue, that they would have implemented fixes before launch rather than later. If not, then they directly enabled the problem. Therefore "Overloooked" gives the benefit of the doubt to the devs

This is still a very new game and their road map covered a lot of our points. I’m excited for ping abilities. Simple but always improved combat if you’re playing with another person.

I thought having a high end build would matter but it really doesn’t make a difference aside from texture and ray tracing. I still experience the same bugs everyone else does it seems. It’s just the game. I’m excited for performance updates.
I don't know how fair that is honestly. Do you have any examples of things that would be more pertinent to the gameplay loop or universe? Do we even know what the end result is suppose to look like yet? Also, the survival game genre is still pretty new relatively speaking so feature homogenization is sort of to be expected to one degree or another.
Performance improvements is a catch all for everything from game data size, stuttering, LoD, far field bluring, RAM usage esp in UI and automated process, and yes user input controllers. But looking at that roadmap, combat is not at all what Keen is thinking about when they thing performance improvements.
and when you boil stuff like that down, it's all going to be distilled into the same features done differently or better.

Laggy combat doesn’t bother me none. Game is too casual for it to matter. Unless they rebalanced it to a degree that severely impacted the gameplay/ casual aspect, I’m more interested in the other features being implemented that make it feel even more sandboxy announced in the roadmap

Maybe you've experienced this. When you are trying to tangle with a powerful boss or multiple creatures, and you start some attacks or movements. You're planning your next move for when the animation finishes. But the game has buffered multiple attacks--some you haven't even entered--that instead send you into the middle of the horde, or over a cliff, or into deadly water, or in front of the boss's finisher that you were dodging. This happens all the time in Enshrouded. Basic controller response isn't strictly the realm of FromSoft games, its a basic staple of any game with action in the gameplay. If KeenGames wants action, they should support it to the point of ensuring it doesn't bug out every other second. I have to avoid certain weapons and builds not because of playstyle, but because I know it's too risky for Enshrouded's bugs.

Hey guys, if they are planning to put in a 'weather system' ~ will there be thunder/lighning?...and if so...will there be an option to potentially turn off or reduce flashing? It's just that me and my partner have been loving this game and...He has photosensitive epilepsy so if they put flashing lightning in the game...He wont be able to play 🥲 We already get 'flashbanged' by the unbalanced lighting when moving from indoors - outdoors so I was just curious ~

Interesting point. Do you use KB & M or controller? I use controller and play melee/archery. I hardly jump into a horde unless it’s a small mob. I dodge and run away lot more to reserve health. I also use the game “logic” as observed by mobs to know how they corner you and how to avoid it. I haven’t personally experienced too many combat bugs this way so I might be ignorant to the ones you’ve had. However, I have noticed tank play styles aren’t as rewarded as others from my experience thus far. Even with legendary, fully upgraded weapons and potions… but yeah, we’ll have to hope and see of those bugs you mentioned get ironed out. I would love to explore the skill tree to try all the fighting styles in this game.

I have run the same build and use KB&M, and your playstyle is what I adjusted toward precisely to avoid bugs. I throw in some ranged magic for that reason, as well. Short range and melee combat is where good input handling is important. That's about half the skill tree.

Yeah. I would love to use my staff more often but then I’d probably just spam acid bite all the time haha the combat, for my play style, is balanced enough to remain fun and still give me somewhat of an edge when going into a large enemy base. I know I can kick their butts but I know it’ll also cost me some time to do and that’s okay lol

Glad you are enjoying it. I'm at the point of deciding replay value, and a fresh build is part of that. But as I said, so many builds, weapons, and playstyles tempt those input handling bugs.

We have a bunch of new players considering joining the server so we want to reset it, but we don't want to lose all the work we put into Glenwood.
I went from my wives server which we began on, to my own where we are making a new base. Gathering resources is a a breeze so it’s definitely replayable for us.
The building system in Enshrouded is excellent. If it weren't for the wonky shader, I would say it's the best out there. It's only half the game for me, though.
I haven't really noticed any of that. Actually the only thing I have noticed is Jump Attack seems want to turn you into a pinata suspended over a group of enemies ripe for a beating.

Common practice does not mean best practice though. Keen seems to really take care of their employees and stresses a work-life balance (at least on their page) so it makes sense that they would not set goals to stress their programmers or disapoint their player base.

That would hold weight if they were setting goals for specific dates which can induce stress to hit a solid deadline, but a timeline isn’t at all unreasonable

Definitely depends on the studio. I’ve worked closely with a studio recently and I did not like their office dynamics personally. Glad we finished our work when the contract was up. I’ve also seen studios who you wouldn’t even think they get anything done cause of how cohesive the chemistry is… yet they churn out some amazing titles lol
but we aren't the ones driving, they are, so I am sure they have goals for times on their internal roadmap - but without the pressure of a bunch of cranky gamers beating down the door if it's 2 hours late.
I mean hell, after Valheim missed a bunch of deadlines they took the map down and said "you know what, you'll get what you get when you get it"
I mean, look what happened with the roadmap, they never even gave a date, and yet people read into what was said (incorrectly) and have been complaining for 2 weeks that they were late

Part of that problem is that feature upvote doesn't support context searching, so you probably got 1000s of duplicates of the same comments with dissimilar titles.

It's a 2 pronged thing. On one prong you have a very polished start that fools a lot of people into thinking it's more complete than it is. On the other it's their own engine where every idea has to have groundwork implemented then the feature itself built. There's no short cuts because it's never been coded yet which makes it easier to give it an alpha+ title

A contest? No news/active plans right now. That was a pretty spontaneous thing we did when ElRubius and his agency wanted to partner with us on that, but overall it seems to have been a success (even if it had some hiccups/jank), so I won't be surprised if we do something like that in the future

the issue is they didn't include terraforming in their to do list, my idea was that we can terraform red shroud back into flowing water eventually. through some magical means, not actually through the build hammer.

That's understandable, though giving exact dates on these sorts of things and actually managing to achieve them is a lot harder than it might seem from the outside as a non-dev. To be honest it's pretty rare for devs to attempt that and actually end up following their roadmap properly, because things almost always change as games develop and timelines shift.
Doing it this way allowed us to share more than we would have been comfortable with if we did it the other way, it gives us more flexibility. If we gave exact patch/date timelines we probably would have shared less info honestly, just because some of those features are still far out and we don't have an exact idea yet on what patch they will be ready in.

I think the gaming community in general has gotten really over sensitive about developers which is fair but open communication with the players that fund their company is not unreasonable in my opinion, companies are much too closed nowadays and only speak with their fans openly when they have a product to sell

They implemented water that flows when terrain is modified in Portal Knights. i see no reason why they would not be able to do it in Enshrouded.
They talk extremely open and Toast literally provided you with the reason we have the roadmap the way we have it...

i never saw a reason it cant be added either, my point is people were telling me they can't do diagonal walls, but i dont view that as being harder to do.

Keen has been more than open and communicative with us. they are doing a great job. They decided for (very good) reasons of their own not to put dates or timeframes on the roadmap. It's what you have, take it or leave it. It's all I can say.

Portal Knights levels are much smaller, and voxel size is larger. Flow embellishments probably would work, but only between static water blocks. I would be surprised if they introduced water flow like in Minecraft for example.

that means we wont get any work done anymore if they add sitting, the running joke is enshrouded early access with all this QOL and tons of content, but no sitting. valheim 4 years in development with about equal to show for, but their is sitting. so the logic is that valheim has less content in 4 years because sitting took 2 years to develop. if they develop sitting in enshrouded, nothing else will get done!

Yeah now I can finally make chairs I like. I just phase in to my chairs whenever I sat on them. If I wanted to cosplay as a chair I play Enshrouded lol.
guys i have idea i love how late game armors looks and some mid game armors too, and im thinking that in this game should be armors stands for holding armors
what does multiple npc instances mean
everyone has different content displayed to them by the same npc? depending on their progression? or does it mean many of the same npc?
i don't want to see the same exact npc 5 times in my world that will kill the immersion for me

can they be reskinned. sigh multiplayer ruins games i swear. having to be forced to have content i don't want just because 80% of people want it, but usually it's 30% of people and they are misinformed about what gameplay is actually good.
Placing down multiple versions of an NPC will presumably be optional. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to do it

It's very possible to get immersed in a 3rd person game 🙂 Still, if an optional thing ruins your immersion, than it was your fault for using it.

I was reading that the overly complicated crafting system is what seems to annoy people the most. It also is apparently very repetitive and the tutorial is ridiculously long

my issue isn't the idea of fixing the problem we have, my issue is with the potential implementation, basically any idea can be good if implemented correctly, their roadmap doesn't detail how they will implement this so i'm worried it will be annoying for me personally.
it was put in the game so people in coop and multiplayer can have multiple personal bases with craftsmen. so either they steal your craftsmen, or there are two of them

reskin through coding is actually easy for a programmer to do. doesn't even require an artist drawing it up 1 by 1.
the code will just randomize certain clothing and colours and facial characteristics.

Mostly I just saw were getting town npcs and I’m really chuffed - I actually stopped playing because the world felt so empty and devoid of purpose. Like what’s the point in reclaiming the world from the shroud if theirs no one to reclaim it for
We really asked for round windows before a deeper skill tree...
So I’m actually super chuffed they’re putting people that aren’t enemies into the world so you can build these towns actually for people and help rebuild society

basically you have to move your mouse side to side, up and down depending on how the fish is pilling and hold the left mouse button to reel in

you can make your own hard mode, dont wear armour and use low level weapons at level 25 lol
This game still has a VERRRRRY long way to go to even BEGIN to stand toe to toe with Valheim, unfortunately. At the very least I wish there were workbenches and tools that you had to use and not just 'some guy' standing in a corner watching you whilst you're having some down time. 🙄
Also the immersion breaking 'phasing out' of trees once they're cut. Sorry, that was just lazy. The game needs FAR more immersive factors and a lot more freedom in the way of how much you're allowed to build.
Doubt the waterline would be that high but then again idk how they’re going to implement it

I think they would keep roots respawning as that’s how new players would get more skill points
they dont need to respawn forever, there could be later quest progression that makes it clear the roots would be removed for good
players can decide when to proceed with that, when the group is ready etc.
like milestones in the quests
Nothing wrong with trying to compare but these are two different games lol. You can't expect it to follow the same designs and rulings.
I really dislike the fact that the roots come back after they are destroyed. Once cut down, they should be gone for good from my map.
valheim has like 3 pages of issues, which enshrouded already fixes. maybe you meant modded valheim.
i disagree and dont think the game really needs that. Would rather them concentrate on other things. better defining skill trees or giving weapons different power moves for example. I don't feel like my trees need to "immerse me" when they fall
trees falling would be good actually, but it's bias to list things enshrouded could take from valheim, and call valheim the better game, valheim is objectively worse in 50 ways, that enshrouded already improved on, if anything valheim needs to take notes from enshrouded as well.

tbh i did not like the falling trees in valheim XD
but valheim is also different, since its not a voxel game, so it gets some benefits of not being voxel, but i tend to prefer the benefits from voxel games.

i cant zoom in the roadmap that they released to tell us what they are planning next.. tbh i was very disapointed when the 2nd half of the map was blocked, did they tell us when they plan to release the 2nd half of the game? (felt i was robbed of gameplay)

valheim > enshrouded because of 27.5 angles
depends, valheim is grindy, it's frustrating, it's not a true survival game by definition, it's more of a comfort vs torture game, and all within the time frame of 30 minutes, since that's how long resisted buff/food lasts.
if you use mods to extend rested buff and food duration, it suddenly becomes way more enjoyable.
Yeah I found Valheim very repetitive and boring back then And I dont get the comparison at all

they now have casual settings though, and increased resource drop as an option within that, as well as settings for dying/mob difficulty? and the progression system in valheim i find really fun (ie the lore and crafting and how things unlock).
Ok maybe ill give it a shot again Im not interested in mods only base game.
I had 15-20 hours in and felt like I done everything maybe misinterpret the goal of the game and wasnt far at all and maybe content is added now years later : - )

valheim has the boat feature where you go on big adventures with your friends.... nothing compares. enshrouded is like a 7.5/10 while valheim is a 9/10. Not the same game. At all.

It's definitely a shame there's so little enemy variety in Enshrouded. Hopefully that gets improved sooner rather than later according to their roadmap
I don't think there is, you can reset very cheaply though
there is a mod that exists in valheim to reduce wolf howl frequency and duration, or to turn it off, that says a lot that people were annoyed enough they made a mod for it. i wish valheim devs paid attention
Eh I mean not necessarily, a game can make a great "base" for modders to build off of. I doubt the kind of people who make a QOL mod for Valheim would have the capability to build the game themeselves from scratch, but that mod can certainly make the game a lot better.

i shouldn't need a mod to change the game into a less annoying more fun version of itself, and thats typically what 100% of valheim mods do 😄 (though the mods add more customization since you can finely set your restbuff lengths, and food durations). i think it's part of devs responsibility to recognize something just annoys a ton of people and to tweak it in the vanilla game. not be like "oh there is a mod for that, we designed our game to be annoying".

Enshrouded would have a ton of QoL mods by now if it was moddable
I think the thing to keep in mind with Valheim is that it was built with only 2-5 devs for the entire period before launch. So obviously a game like that will have a lot of jank, but it's honestly incredibly impressive what they created with such a small team.
But yeah, lots of jank lol

yup their roadmap sucks. It should have been : 1) actually finishing the 2nd half of the map 2) actually adding more bosses (there was 2-3 real boss, 4-5 mini boss models)
