why does it seem like thrusting is so inconsistent and hard to aim? is it just a skill issue?

try disabling Lockon (F) when you go to do so. Usually lockon will center your stabs around the hips. When you disable lock-on, it will allow you to thrust up towards the chest and neck with ease— just remember to turn Lockon back on when you need it. I also have a short write-up with some tips for alt-stabbing and double clicking, so you can pull off stuff similar to this!

Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

It uses 2 mods, but this tutorial teaches you how to install/use both; before I just used the OVRDTH Selector to immediately spawn my preferred weapon on death, and now with Quality of Life, this totally lets you make w/e you want! I've always tried to take what I see and replicate it I just can't do it because I'm not very good at replicating stuff in the game

I don't have a very intricate understanding of what position Willie's arm will be in when I move it in a certain direction. That's why most of my parries come from in-tight positions where the sword is closer to my body because that's what I do understand lol

I like the simple things because that's probably what worked. I take the same approach with boxing. the good boxers you see are usually the ones who have mastered the fundamentals and basics down to a T

For sure, I wish we had a training mode where would could program an enemy to only do a certain attack, combo or whatever so we could drill the fundamentals more efficiently. The training dummy is nice and all but once you get in a match you kinda have to focus on learning multiple things at once

Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.
