The general troubleshooting steps are: 1) make sure UE4SS loads (if you can open console with F10, then it is), if not, find what is wrong with it (e.g. maybe wrong version, etc.); 2) make sure the mod loads (check UE4SS logs), if not, find where its files are, if they are in the right place, it will load; 3) make sure the mod works (again, check UE4SS logs).

Why won’t it let me play the play test

The v0.5 of the automatic mod installer now supports the Playtest version and installs the compatible trainer mod.
The installer is at https://github.com/massclown/HalfSwordModInstaller, together with its source code.
If you have both Demo and Playtest installed, the installer will ask questions and attempt to fix things.

Of course the new installer is yet again flagged as a false positive "Trojan.Malware.300983.susgen" by the world-famous, award-winning "MaxSecure" antivirus (lol), and no one else.
Look it up and decide for yourself if you trust this or not. The Virustotal scan results are right on the release page of my installer, with the SHA256 hash of the binary right there.
Of course the manual way of installing mods (that does not require running any EXE files made by some random person on the internet) is always an option, see https://github.com/massclown/HalfSwordTrainerMod-playtest?tab=readme-ov-file#how-to-install

it's due to the way these mods hook into the game, it's very hacky because there's no official tools or anything

most av are going to flag them as suspicious due to the nature of the implementation

Even then, buying a code signing certificate does not guarantee the lack of false positives. Whatever the "detection" they use isn't going to stop producing false positives. Basically you compile a "Hello world" style almost empty binary with a toolchain of your choice, and a bunch of antiviruses I have never even heard before are going to detect it as malware, lol

The only explanation I might have is that maybe having UE4SS loaded slows down some parts of the engine somehow and messes up with the timing of that kick. On my machine, kicks seem to be a bit random, both on unmodded game and with the mods loaded. Some kicks are high, some kinda mid-level

The installer for the trainer mod also works with the playtest. You can save the loadout that is on the player now, with Ctrl + L, using the game's mechanism as well (that is the one slot that OVRDTH's selector puts the custom stuff in), or edit your own loadout in a text file and then spawn it with L, the functionality is documented here: https://github.com/massclown/HalfSwordTrainerMod?tab=readme-ov-file#loadout-configuration

It can be done, but requires a bit too much rework around the way the items are spawned in the mod. Also, it will have to be a setting, as by default random colors look great if you spawn a pile of loot

there's just no crosshairs like in the abyss demo so it's harder to aim

Honestly? I think that'd be a bit premature considering this is alpha software

or beta, I forget

generally people wait until the game is released before making maps and such because sometimes the devs switch between formats or even different versions of the same format, which would then make those old mods incompatible if the authors don't bother keeping them up to date

Say, I really like the v0.11 of the trainer mod but why does it crash so often? D: I mean at least even if it crashes I can keep playing by alt-tabbing back to the game but then half the time the trainer mod doesn't work and the trainer hud shows booleans or whatnot

Alsoooo, is it possible yet to set the trainer mod to keep the game from disabling the invincibility at the start of each match? or really, resetting all the hud's settings? I assume for invinicibility at least there's some mercy invincibility at the start of matches? just making guesses
