Sometimes, even though the AI generated the content, it violates its own policy. It's possible a few of the words mentioned could be triggering something, but it's often hard to know if there is a real violation or if the policy enforcement is just out of wack.

I'm afraid Stories still doesn't work for me this morning—all I get is that same message (with the typo):

If Stories is simply not ready, that's okay—but I wish your team could put up a formal notification of a delay.

I still wonder whether, if this is only on my end, if there's somehow a glitch associated with reloading the Stories page in the middle of the character selection process.

(Notably, there's an ongoing glitch in the Scenes interface where, if one uses the "rewind to here" option, the chat is usually unable to progress, and if one uses "new chat from here," the new chat is never able to progress. I always get a Chat Error notification, and the scene is effectively bricked.)

Mwhahaha. Finally managed to make a story. The graphics are really BEAUTIFUL.

Stories flow well and are fun to make. But a couple of observations for the devs:

Some story images do not align with the text descriptions

One of my characters was given a female voice despite the fact that his character definition defines him as a male with a male voice and despite referencing him as a "male cat" in both the Relationship and Premise fields of the story.

I made several further attempts after that to correct those issues, mainly by including prompts for the visuals and voice within the premise.

The revised visuals did show some improvement right at the start of the story, but then quickly began just repeatedly using the same exact visuals over and over like in a Video Call.

On the voices, the whole story just went silent. Although both characters do briefly speak in various generations, enough that I noticed Misty's voice changes slightly, based on my revised prompt. So that was good to see. But the AI ignored my revised prompt for Merlin and continued to use a woman's voice for him.

I'm wondering if the fact that Merlin is non-human might be the issue. The AI just prefers human-like characters for stories.

I was just looking at one of @indigo loom's stories and it seems like each story just sets a standard image for each character to use thru-out. It doesn't vary the pictures constantly. Which is ok, if that's what's supposed happen. 🙂

Has anyone tried making a story with characters, like villains or side characters, but put them in the premise and not add in the actual character? How has that gone for you?

I'm trying to find the best practice for doing multiple characters, some that don't always appear. So far, it seems like, if we add in the characters, they're constantly in there interacting, but I wanted to have some characters that don't appear for a bit.

I've tried doing a worldbuilding/storyline bot with multiple characters in it, and I'd love to hear if anyone has tried anything else and how it's going for you.

Interestingly enough, I was playing around with the same thing and ran into the same issue. In fact on my most recent attempt, I treated the premise like a full on prompt field and specified a series of scenes to try and get the story to feature characters at specific times. But that did not work. It basically features all of the characters, all of the time. So far, I've not been able to get a story to unfold in stages. Aspects that are supposed to occur later in the story can appear at the absolute start of the story.

This might help you. I don't know if this is consistent, but I noticed once that when replaying a story from the beginning, and choosing different choices, the second chapter would start the same, and it might bend a little to finally synch up with the new storyline of the first chapter.

For example, in one the my stories, the second chapter always starts in a cave, but depending on the choices made in the first chapter, the chase doesn't always end up with the characters being in a cave. But a cave was originally mentioned in the premise.

My premises usually end up being vague plot ideas or backstory, and then the story begins. It's interesting to see what the AI picks up on.

One thing I am beginning to realize is that, just as creating a Character bot often results in free ranging chats, I think it is potentially the same with the stories. We can't really designate a specific outcome. We can only set the stage and then it will unfold differently for each person reading the story.

So for example, you can have a villain terrorizing the city and a hero who wants to stop them. But how that will transpire is not in our control.

For me, this essentially presents a challenge if I want to do a story like in my bard's tale song about Eldrin Vale which does have a specific outcome. I don't seem to be able to do that in one single story, due to the issues of always present characters we just noted. But what we can do is create a series of standalone stories to tell each part of that story. Only issue with that is the inability to create story names to show that each part is a part of a series, and what the order is.

I think it might depend on how we phrase it. Think like goals in Scenes. I want to say some of my stories did do the vague ending I set for it, but maybe it was just luck.

Maybe you might find making an Eldrin Vale RP bot, like worldbuilding bot, with multiple characters in the definition helpful? The world bots are working the best for me for doing multiple characters without having them be constantly in the chapter, though we have to infer who's talking when the RP world bot speaks because it just shows the picture, and not the name as it assumes the bot is only one character.

I didn't realize until now, but only up to 3 characters, even in an worldbuilding RP bot, talk, so even if you have other characters, it seems to only have dialogue for the first 3 that talked. Other characters will take action, but they won't say anything.

But only the two characters I added AFTER creating the group (as per your advice) are participating to the conversation. The three first are not in the conversation.

Edit: it work for a few messages and now the text no longer generates in the group chat. It looks like the bot is "typing" and then the bubble with the little dots disappears, but with no message being generated.

I ran into this problem the other day. The issue was a restriction due to a bad word. It wasn't really a bad word. It was just a word. But I just had to go through the whole story premise and eliminate any words that potentially would flag a restriction.

That looks pretty good to me. But maybe try removing "that transcends time." I've found that words which reference protected groups can cause a trigger. The mere presence of "trans" could be the trigger, even though it is part of a larger word that means something else.

In my case, I had to remove "the threat of Varkhavar" as the word "threat" was considered unsafe to include in the premise. I would look for any words that might even remotely be construed as violent.

Also, sometimes certain words are not obvious. I've had the issue with a bot, it got moderated because I said that the user was swapping places with the {{char}}. I don't remember exactly, but it was something along these lines. 😅

However, today I tried to generate it again with the first relationship description and the story premise I had tried to make, and I got no error this time. Which gets me to thinking... on Suno they have a neat feature where people can earn credits by reviewing clips of music and rating them.

Now I don't propose that model for Character AI, but what if free Streams credits could be earned for chatting with bots? Let's say 1 credit per 100 interactions, or something like that. Free users and paid users both could earn them. But C.ai benefits too because they gain training data and increased user engagement.

I'm not sure if the devs would go for that, but it's an interesting idea, I think.

Using charms for credits would be great too, because as paying users we mostly accumulate charms with nothing major to spend them on. We already get Imagine turns daily, so letting charms convert to Stream credits would make them way more useful.

Narrating their actions is nothing new as far as I know, but as for the tilde, I think they had to change to a different voice synthesizer after the one they were using before added some new restrictions. I had some videos where I wrote words in all caps and it spelled them out 😅

I have encountered that phenomenon too. There can be a bias, but I think sometimes it is just related to the genre of music. I'll usually specify the gender of voice I want, but sometimes the music generator will still ignore that due to its training for the different types of genres.

I've also noticed a bias towards deep powerful male voices. If you want a toned down male voice, it can require some extra prompting to get it.

You can't control who is moving their mouth in streams. In AvatarFX, you can try changing the description of the image to try to help the system understand who is speaking but... it doesn't really work.

I've not seen that error per se but I have run into a couple recent instances involving either a Legend or a Superstar that would not load properly into WavePad Sound Editor... the audio appeared completely corrupted.

Why does Legend fail so much? Is there anything I can do to make it succeed? I had it fail 10 times in a row this morning. It generated 95 images, and presumably 10 songs. All I really wanted was to see if I could generate an image of something for a new bot.

Try a different character and try generating at a different time. I've noticed an issue where Legend is especially sensitive and sometimes won't work with certain characters (AT ALL, EVER). Or temporarily goes down, but 12 hours later works fine.

And I think they are also getting summoned by official organizations to know what they put in place to prevent kids from using their apps excessively

So I guess they figured that it was too much bother. Since underaged kids are probably not bringing any money in but are consuming a lot of resources.

If you look at it, all the features they are still allowed are all features that can potentially be paid for (streams, imagine, etc.)
