Deleting the last word = useful, deleting everything before the last linebreak = not very useful, especially when you typo it because you're trying to delete the last word and delete the last half-a-sentence instead.

Why is my Discord laggy?

The most common cause of lag is poorly written CSS.

To see if this is the case for you, try temporarily disabling all themes and your QuickCSS.

If that indeed fixes the lagging, you'll have to figure out which theme / part of your QuickCSS is causing the lag.Just slowly remove parts of it until it doesn't lag anymore.

Hello guys, I am having trouble with sharing my screen trough Vesktop. Once I start sharing screen, stream doesnt start and discord crashes, but then it immediately brings me back to the same page I was on, but unable to click any button or interact at all. hi! I'm having an issues with Vesktop running on Linux/Debian 13. Whenever I start a screen share or turn on camera I'm able to see the feed on my end, but others get an infinite loading screen. When i stop the share, it removes me from the call and greys out Vesktop, making a restart of the app necessary. A few updates have rolled out since then and the issue has persisted, I've also attempted fully uninstalling and reinstalling, that has not done the trick. If anyone is able to take a look, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Discord started blocking Linux VPN users, for whatever reason.

You have two options:

1. Disable your VPN
2. Spoof your user agent to a windows one. This may trigger more captchas and could flag your account as spam (avoid sending friend requests or joining servers if you do this). You can do this by launching Vesktop via vesktop --user-agent-os windows.

Hey everyone! I recently switched to using CachyOS instead of Windows, and it's mostly been smooth.

I'm having an issue where watching streams in Vesktop is constantly stuttery/jittery. Interestingly, playing uploaded videos or watching YouTube in browsers works perfectly fine with hardware acceleration (mostly, seems to depend on the used codec...), so it's specifically a problem with Discord streams. Even when nvtop shows the DEC column moving (proving the GPU is working) the frame pacing can be awful. Decoding usage in a 720p30fps stream moves between 0-8% usage. Switching to CPU decoding seems the make it slightly better, but it is still stuttery.

My setup:

• GPU: RTX 4070 (Driver 590.48.01)
• CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
• Kernel: Linux 6.19.3-2-cachyos
• DE: KDE Plasma 6.6.0
• Vesktop 1.6.5-1 from AUR

I do have the Nvidia Vaapi driver installed as well. So far I've tried using flags (such as --use-gl=angle, --use-angle=gl, --ignore-gpu-blocklist, --enable-features=VaapiVideoDecoder,VaapiOnNvidiaGPUs,AcceleratedVideoDecodeLinuxGL,VaapiIgnoreDriverChecks,Vulkan, and different variations/combinations of these), disabling AV1, but seemingly to no avail. All that changes is that sometimes GPU decoding seems to work, sometimes not. When I switch over to Windows it seems to be working perfectly fine.

If anyone has more tips or potential fixes, I'll gladly hear you out!

When trying to stream, no matter what quality, (yes i have hardware acceleration on and using the recomended flags to force enable va-api and hardware encoding) and my game tanks from 90 down to 40-50, issue does not persist in obs when using va-api, Gpu Screen Recorder also has near zero hit on performance and does not crap on frametimes
Its as though both discord and vesktop refuse to use hardware acceleration even when launching through terminal with recomended flags. Any suggestions?

I currently have an issue with idling in Vesktop (Linux): when in a audio channel, Vesktop will prevent swayidle from triggering completely.
This means that if I want to use my screensaver when going AFK, I have to disconnect from the channel.

You can test this easily by setting something like this in your sway config:

       timeout 5 'ddcutil -d 1 setvcp 10 10' \
       resume 'ddcutil -d 1 setvcp 10 100'

If you join an audio channel, swayidle will never trigger. It doesn't matter if you're alone or with someone. If you're not in an audio channel, it is correctly triggered.
I tested with regular Discord, and it works as intended: swayidle is triggered correctly, even if you're currently in an audio channel.

I would expect Vesktop to allow swayidle to trigger if you're in an audio channel, as long as you're not watching someone's stream (and you're actually inactive).
This is not the intended behaviour, is it ?

Hi friends, was hoping I could get some help with screensharing via Vesktop. I am currently using Bazzite and attempted to use Vesktop via both the flatpak available through Bazaar and the appimage (which fails to initialize at all). When screensharing via the flatpak, the stream starts but for viewers hangs at "waiting for stream to start". If I stop the stream, my vesktop becomes a white window and uninteractable. Pic attached! I ran the flatpak through terminal and managed to retrieve this from the crash:

i guess there's an error in StartTransietUnit, but there's nothing else about this that stands out to me. this fake "crash" is super annoying, any ideas on what to do to handle it? i've tried rebuilding the aur package and i've tried repairing vesktop

Hello. I'm on Linux and am trying to share my screen with audio through Vesktop. Opening the share menu displays the previews of each window as expected, but Discord crashes when I try to stream! Disabling plugins hasn't helped.

Looking at the console (shift-ctrl-I) I get a minified react error #130 when the crash happens, not sure what that means. Please ping or DM me if you know how to fix this.

Hi, I'm using Vesktop on fedora and I'm having an issue. When one specific user in my friends server starts either his screen share or his webcam, this is what I see

this happens only with him, I am able to see other friend's webcam and screen shares fine and am able to screen share and start my webcam fine. Also between all my friends I am pretty sure he is the only one using the official client on linux, other friends use either vesktop on linux or the official client on windows.
Also when using the official discord client (flatpak) I am able to see his webcam and his screen share fine

I saw an issue on github talking about this, but nowhere was mentioned this interaction between official client and vesktop, so I'm not sure if it's the same issue

Btw, there is an issue i have regarding X11 so i will explain it here (also a plus small thing)
First of all, idk if its normal that, even if i stream at 720p 60fps, discord says im streaming at 1080p 30fps
Second and most important;
I use double monitor, one at 165hz, other at 60hz, i did some shenanigans with XFCE compositor and nvidia settings to get vsync disabled, without screen tearing (gsync) and a smooth experience without a lot of bugs, the problem comes when I start to stream on discord using canary or using vesktop, streaming the app or full screen, makes the WHOLE display visually limit to 60fps, the game is at 165+ fps, but it looks like discord makes x11 render everything at 60hz, which makes ofc everything look very slow

I wanna say it if anyone knows a solution to this, or somewhat of a workaround, I could use picom if necessary (although i have flickering issues with it)

recently my audio in for vesktop is only picking up the discord audio noise for switching audio inputs and nothing else (like the little ba ding noise). i'm on nixos (pulse/pipewire for audio), all other apps including default discord client work with mic. I have reinstalled, reset audio settings, and reset client to no avail. also i have used 2 diffrent microphones so its not that (again they work on default discord and anyother app).

Hello, I'm having a problem with screen sharing.
When streaming video, the image falls apart, with black squares appearing on half the screen. If I stream a full-screen window, the artifacts disappear, but the image stutters, showing mostly a single static frame, interspersed with the frame currently on screen. If I try to record this on OBS, the problem is replaced by another one: the picture does not fall apart, but freezes for a second approximately every two to three seconds.
I'm using the Gnome Shell desktop environment. The problem completely disappears if I use a different desktop environment (I tested hyprland).

i have an issue where if you close the lid on a macbook (in my case, m4 macbook air) while in a call and everyone else leaves the call, it will initiate a call, wait out the timer for discord to kick you, and initiate another call. this will repeat until the laptop dies.

an unrelated issue ive found (which is not present in the vanilla discord app) is partly to do with apple disabling noise cancellation on bluetooth headphones. when you switch the input to macbook air microphone OFF of the bluetooth microphone in system settings (and in vesktop), while it does switch in vesktop, it does NOT turn noise cancellation back on unless you leave, wait for it to turn on, and rejoin.

Hi, I am having two issues and wondering if anyone can help. I am running Vesktop on Nobara, Wayland. I installed through rpm.

1. When I open a join link, Discord logs me out and I need to reverify. I have confirmed things are working through the Discord client, and the Android app, as I have successfully joined servers. This is annoying as it logs me out of every device, not just Vesktop.

2. I am having audio issues. Joining VC, I don't hear or transmit audio. Streams do not have audio, showing the "could not find Pipewire" message that the Discord client used to on Wayland. technically it's easier to install than downloading the vencord.exe file and running it if you're on windows, and you get some tweaks upon install that you don't with regular discord
the biggest benefits are on linux because discord updates on linux break vencord and require you to run the script over and over again, which is annoying with discord's update frequency

hihi, I have a rather obscure issue. When I am in a call with someone and also have a game running that uses a good amount of resources, the audio of the call gets some weird crackling sound to it. However, as soon as I open the Audio settings (the discord ones in the settings menu), it all works 100% fine again, but only as long as I keep that page open. If I close it, it immediately starts with the crackling again
Had this issue for a while but only found the workaround recently.
Any better solutions to this ?

Hey, guys.

So I decided to try out Vesktop since the desktop version of Discord thrashes my poor (literally) machine's CPU.

But the way the Windows installer works for "All Users" is not sensible.

The install location is C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\vesktop,
but the shortcut placed in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs has:

The Target is set to:
C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Local\vesktop\vesktop.exe

And the Start in is set to:
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\vesktop

The Target does not exist and even if it did, the Start in is wrong and definitely wouldn't work for non-Admin users.

I was expecting the install location to be in Program Files.

If Vesktop can only run in a portable like fashion, needing its files next to the executable,
then I would remove the "All Users" option from the Windows installer.

EDIT: Not really asking for support, just thought it was worth reporting.

Hi everyone!
Several weeks ago there was an update (either on discord of vesktop) and now during voice/videocalls, you can right click and "Disable Video" anymore.

In the original Discord app you can still do it, and Vesktop used to have that ability. Now, when doing right click on someone's video during a call, there is no optiion to disable their video. It was very helpful.

Discord / Vesktop refusing to load while using VPN on Linux

Discord started blocking Linux VPN users, for whatever reason.

You have two options:

1. Disable your VPN
2. Spoof your user agent to a windows one. This may trigger more captchas and could flag your account as spam (avoid sending friend requests or joining servers if you do this). You can do this by launching Vesktop via vesktop --user-agent-os windows.

On vesktop (Linux) I'm only able to choose Pulseaudio audio sources, and an app (such as bitwig) which uses Pipewire directly doesn't share its audio, even when the "Entire System" option is enabled. I'm not using the flatpak version of Vesktop, using the gentoo binary package

Fixed this by using Helvum and connecting the Bitwig output to the vencord input

Hei! I've read to faq and known issues and haven't found anything there.
I am using Windows 10 and recently discovered Vesktop. It’s much better than Discord and has completely replaced it for me! 🙂

However, there is one issue:
Taskbar notification badges are not appearing. My Windows settings are configured correctly. Discord used to display badges for new notifications, and WhatsApp also displays them as expected. (I don't run Discord and Vesktop simultaneously, and I don't use Discord at all anymore, so that isn't the cause of the problem).

When the tray icon shows the red notification dot, the red badge is missing from the pinned taskbar icon. If I close Vesktop, unpin the icon, restart Vesktop, the red badge appears on the taskbar icon! It even stays if I pin it again. However, once I read the messages and the badge disappears, it won't come back. For the next set of notifications, only the tray icon shows the red dot, while the taskbar icon remains empty again.

The actual fault is ubuntu regressions. Kernel 6.19.0 and apparmour update making apparmour not give permission for flatpaks and snaps. So they have no internet.
So when this started happening for me (I think after updating apparmour). Is also when discord rolled out its e2ee. Which just gave me a false error.

Close it, and open it using taskbar, it opens pretty quickly and uses wayyyy less ram in closed mode. Also a setting has to be on, as I remember it it's smth like "Stay running when closed" kinddaaa in vesktop settings and I suppose you have it off as you are worried about a gig of ram...

Looking at fixing an issue I have which is there is no option to disable automatically detecting whether streaming/recording software is open, and I saw a response from around 2 months ago saying "it's broken", is there any update on when we will get this option back? My Discord keeps on continuously saying streamer mode is enabled when OBS is open and I want it disabled permanently

Anyone unable to unmute in Vesktop after an update on linux?
I've tried downgrading & switching between -git and -bin versions but all the sudden vesktop refuses to unmute. Checking sound settings shows this.

Edit: if anyone comes across this, pipewire updated to 1.6.0 from 1.4.10 and caused this issue for me due to using pulsemeeter. Closing pulsemeeter restored default routes and resolved the issue, downgrading to 1.4.10 also fixes this, apparently some other niche apps have the same issue.

Hi, i've got an issue with hardware acceleration. i have an nvidia gpu (yes, booooo, i know) as /dev/dri/renderD128, and that's not working for hardware encoding when screen sharing which causes my cpu to ramp up over time too 100% because VAAPI on nvidia only supports decode yada yada. the thing is that I have an AMD cpu with an integrated graphics card (as renderD129) which does support hardware encoding via VAAPI. i also happened to notice that chromium (which electron is based on) has the --hardware-video-device-path commandline flag in the vaapi wrapper code but when i use it nothing changed and it defaults to software. i'd like to know if it's possible to keep rendering on my nvidia gpu but set my amd igpu as the hardware video accel device. thanks!

specifically, i was wondering if that flag can be used by electron and passed to chromium? it didn't work when i tried LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=radeonsi vesktop --hardware-video... in the console. i did check and that flag shouldnt affect the render device as for that chromium has a separate flag --render-node-override. is there a config file or something i could edit to make elctron pass the hardware video flag to chromium
