There's a plugin for it but it will only show for others using the plugin, there is no way to do this for non-vencord users. Also this question is better suited for #🏥-vencord-support-🏥 as this channel is specifically for the Vesktop desktop application, not the overall plugin loader known as Vencord.

Hey Guys,
I have a huge issue with Screensharing/Streaming. It appears to not work at all sometimes especially at higher resolutions (via FakeNitro) with a black screen and only audio working but more importantly IF it works then the quality is really bad. The bitrate appears to be microscopic using "Prefer Smoothness" and "Prefer Clarity" results in a more clear image but ~10 fps for the viewer.
It also appears to not use hardware encoding at all after i tried every command-line argument i could find, switch all hardware accelleration options and after some more research it appears that this was never a thing with discord under linux which would be fine if the result didnt look like an early 2000s YouTube Video.

Linux because thats what im on and where the issue first appeared. i've "recently" switched over to Linux and aside from this, everything has been working fine so i REALLY REALLY wanna fix this.
I've tried the normal Client, Vesktop, the web client, all options in the settings, several arguments like --enable-gpu-rasterization and --enable-features=VaapiVideoDecoder, VaapiVideoEncoder, etc.
This doesnt appear to be a Vesktop specific issue but since Vesktop is supposed to improve on the Screensharing i thought i could find some help here.

My Setup:
Manjaro using KDE in a Wayland Session
Vesktop 1.5.8 as an AppImage
I used a variety of command-line arguments already with no noticeable improvements so i guess those dont matter much.
An RX 9070 XT as my GPU

but Windows works fine

this issue persists through reinstalls of Discord. firewallid is set to home on all, and the vpn supports port forwarding and nat pnp

vpn is primarily set up through a wireguard config on a pfsense firewall with a wifi ap

it does not work over wifi

will occasionally work for about an hour or so on a reinstall, will let me get into a vc, start streaming, but subsequently fails to load messages

firefox is able to log in just fine, but the flatpak and aur versions of both discord and vesktop both break completely when Proton is in use

hey, been struggling for a little bit on 2 issues with screensharing (windows 11) and was wondering if i could get some help.

1. it looks like a slideshow, but only when my resource usage goes up (i assume) (not nearly at maximum usage tho). my current use case is using RPCS3 to stream Rock Band 2 gameplay. the pause menu and song selection is buttery smooth, but the gameplay is a slideshow. This is smooth on the normal discord app, but causes lots of small stutters in-game that Vesktop does not cause. video Hardware acceleration seems to have zero effect on the screen share positive or negative.

2. audio seems to be completely messed up. im using voicemeeter potato for the record, but everything works with no fuss on the default Discord app. on vesktop, it will play my discord vc audio in the screenshare and nothing else. I tried setting my audio output to something else to see if in some weird way that was linked, but it still would only play the vc audio in screen shares. this was while I was screen sharing RPCS3, not discord. if i shared a full screen, it would only pick up vc audio and relay it and nothing else.

[Linux Mint Cinnamon 22] Earlier today, when opening Vesktop, it opened to a black screen. Restarting, repairing, and resetting didn't resolve it. I ended up uninstalling the flatpak and using the native deb package instead and that worked. (That's not the problem, just giving context in case it's related.) When I try to change the UI scaling, nothing happens. The text size changes but not the UI zoom. I double checked all my plugins and they don't interact with it (that I know of) and before reinstalling, it wasn't an issue.

I'm on linux and without an update or anything my client began to not start up the GUI (or other things too i'm not sure) correctly. The loading vesktop 'windowlet' is fine but the normal window has no elements in it, containing only one space character at the top left. I've tried resetting my setting and configs, repairing vesktop via the tray option and rebuilding it from the aur.

Hello, I use the flatpak version of Vesktop downloaded from Discover on kubuntu 25.04
as I found out, discord recently started to block users who use VPN on Linux, so I want to set up a split tunnel in PIA vpn
does anyone know which file(s) should I select in my Split Tunnel Rules list?
one file I set already is /var/lib/flatpak/exports/bin/dev.vencord.Vesktop, and that didn't fix the problem, so my next guess is some file in /home/[USER]/Vesktop/

adding /usr/bin/bwrap to split tunnel and restarting my system fixed the issue, but now all flatpaks I have installed are probably directed through it too

if you enabled video hardware acceleration in vesktop settings, disable it again

if neither of those apply, then disable hardware acceleration via vesktop settings and it shouldn't crash anymore

but your gpu driver seems cooked so you might wanna fix that directly instead

GPU drivers are up to date (nvidia-open-dkms for linux-zen). Hardware acceleration is disabled to my knowledge (or not available in the settings menu). Vesktop ran from the launcher (super key) or through running vesktop in the command line has the same issue.

Does anyone else have the problem that vesktop crashes randomly while screen sharing? I'm not really sure how to debug this. It just crashes after an arbitrary while when screen sharing (without, it works flawlessly).

I don't know if this is against the rules, but I have this problem.

Specifically, when I download the portable version, uncompress and run the exe file, everything works normally, until Vesktop detects that there is a new update (e.g. 1.5.9 - in the future), when Vesktop's AutoUpdate updates to the new version, it downloads itself to the latest installation version and installs after it exits the application, rather than just .zip.

This results in up to 2 Vesktop in the appliance. One is in portability with the old version and the old profile (I set it up at C:\Tools\Vesktop), and one is completely new, unlogged, and hasn't set anything up in %localappdata%\Vesktop.

Is it possible in the future to deal with this problem? I want to create an issue for this issue in Github, but it seems I can't create an issue for this issue.

Firefox could just be due to no hardware acceleration. It is unfortunate. Regular discord has no hardware acceleration and no support for pipewire.

I am also having this issue on pop!_os COSMIC a ubuntu derivative running their new wayland DE.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it was the same, I selected reset vesktop and was able to sign in. However, even with all plugins and custom themeing off the UI is not working correctly.

besides that it's an issue with your system and there's not much we can help you with unfortunately

just look up chromium/electron troubleshooting steps

a clean reinstall might help

I'm installing all apps on my new linux distro and I can't wrap my head around the difference between vencord and vekstop
Looking at vekstop's website it looks like it's just vencord but better cause built from scratch ?

vencord is the client mod, vesktop is the custom discord app which has its own pros and cons compared to using the patched desktop client
pros (for vesktop):

lightweight
faster
better linux support (+ linux screenshare with sound + wayland)
vencord preinstalled
better privacy

cons (for vesktop):

no global keybinds
no game overlay
not great game activity detection (in my experience)
windows streaming subpar (in my experience)

since youre on linux id suggest you go with vesktop if you dont mind losing access to a few features that are only in the desktop client (like keybinds as stated above) as vesktop is technically the web version of discord

I googled the Threat name (Wacapew) and it corresponds to "PUP" (potentially unwanted program)

Which is a name for software installed by other software's installer. you know how sometimes when you install software there's a checkbox to install some other (sponsored) program, that's what a PUP is

Vesktop is being wrongly flagged, it probably thinks it's trying to install such a program when it's just trying to update itself

the way to make such false positive detections go away is to pay 200€/year to sign your program lol but we're not doing that
