This is an issue that I've had since forever, what happens is that as soon as I install Vencord, whenever I try to alt-tab, the Discord window simply isn't there, which makes it so I have to click on the system tray icon in order to open it, which is a bit annoying since I could just alt-tab to Discord whenever I wanted to switch to it. However, if Vencord is installed it just doesn't show up. The first screenshot is before installing Vencord, and the second one is after installing it. What is weird is that, I've had this for a LONG time, and I've never seen anyone else talk about this. It is a bit inconsistent though, sometimes it shows up, and sometimes it doesn't (even if Discord itself is not closed in any way)

but yeah most settings are in settings.json and that is what is backed up with cloud too, but textreplace rules are stored in indexeddb (viewable in devtools' application tab > storage) but not stored in an easily readable format on disk

The easiest & fastest solution to most issues is to just reinstalll / repair Vencord using the installer. Don't worry, you won't lose your settings! They'll all be there like nothing happened once you're back

open the dev tools with CTRL + Shift + i (Cmd + Option + i on MacOs) and click on the "console" tab at the top. Then paste and run (with enter) the following code.

Seems like Discord is still running in the background. Make sure you close it fully. It will most likely be in your tray, but if not you can use your Task Manager to force close it. After that, you should be able to install Vencord properly.

Will I get banned for using Vencord? Will plugin X get me banned?

Client modifications are against Discord's Terms of Service.

However, Discord is pretty indifferent about them and there are no known cases of users getting banned for using client mods! So you should generally be fine as long as you don't use any plugins that implement abusive behaviour. But no worries, all inbuilt plugins are safe to use!

Regardless, if your account is very important to you and it getting disabled would be a disaster for you, you should probably not use any client mods (not exclusive to Vencord), just to be safe

Additionally, make sure not to post screenshots with Vencord in a server where you might get banned for it

3. If the folder is named after your username, delete it
4. Reinstall Discord

Hey, I'm currently using the chrome version but I want to use the desktop/app version but whenever I try installing it an error pops up (see image for reference). Any idea what I could do to fix this?

1. Open your terminal app
2. Type sudo
3. Drag VencordInstaller.app into your terminal
4. Append /Contents/MacOS/VencordInstaller
5. The final input should now look something like this. Double check that you have everything correctly, especially the space.

sudo /Users/YourUsername/Downloads/VencordInstaller.app/Contents/MacOS/VencordInstaller

6. Run by hitting Enter and the installer should open. If it says file not found, you made a mistake
7. Installing should now work!
8. If you still get the same error, give your terminal app Full Disk Access and try again

just here to say you could probably hack a workaround for yourself by editing this line to rearrange the drop down to your preference and building vencord yourself (disclaimer I just perused the code for like 10 minutes so may not work) but that might (in your eyes) be a stupidly complicated amount of effort for a minor convenience lol

I mean, come on, this isn’t some groundbreaking feature it’s literally one of the most simplest and rudimentary functions. How hard can it be to get it working again? This is a free project that you have obligation to pay for, everyone who works on Vencord is not paid for it. It is also open source so you could submit a patch.

Oh you dont know how to program and fix it? Well let's appreciate the people that understand how to do that and understand that they do this in their free time.

If you even looked at how it broke you would see it was actually a pretty nasty breakage and a fix has already been submitted. If you understand how to program, we welcome code review.
