Personally I don’t think we should hunt the maps anymore at this time

What we know

2 Nama Tamas left

1 -> could be on Eastwood (Vegas) Sandstorm, but we’ve run through the masterplan markup spray a million times with no luck

2 -> maybe the Leek map is pointing to it? But we have no concrete evidence to support wha map that’s pointing to

At least 1 Big WR

-> no concrete evidence for the map, maybe fortune but it’s never been confirmed

Something hidden or some ee on Skyway

-> we know there’s probably something on skyway, but the spot on the image has been investigated a million times with no luck as well

#

I think I’m gonna stop hunting in the maps for now until I can find more info pointing to where these would be / what these things are, else we’re wasting time running around :/

Folktales about luminous gemstones are an almost worldwide motif in mythology and history among Asian, European, African, and American cultures. Some stories about light-emitting gems may have been based on luminescent and phosphorescent minerals such as diamonds.

#

Has the following been previously noted about Herodotus (first European to describe "luminous gems")?

#

Some accounts even suggest the precious stones would have included diamonds.

#

Herodotus pre-dates the "Silk Road," but diamonds were reaching Ancient Greece from India centuries before the "Silk Road" trade route from China rose to prominence.

#

If we're talking jewelry, precious stones, and commerce, the Aegean Civilization, including the Minoan Civilization (i.e., Crete, e.g., Kalydon) might have relevance, as well.
This was while working on that cluster of clues: Herodotus, Aegean, Kalydon, Hex, Silk Road, etc.

Another folklore character related super close to moon rabbit
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chang'e

Chang'e ( CHAHNG-ə; Chinese: 嫦娥; pinyin: Cháng'é), originally known as Heng'e (姮娥; Héng'é), is the goddess of the Moon and wife of Hou Yi, the great archer. Renowned for her beauty, Chang'e is also known for ascending to the Moon with her pet Yu Tu, the Moon Rabbit and living in the Moon Palace (廣寒宮). She is one of the major g...

#

Chang'e was mentioned in a conversation between Houston CAPCOM and the Apollo 11 crew just before the first Moon landing in 1969:

Ronald Evans (CC): Among the large headlines concerning Apollo this morning, is one asking that you watch for a lovely girl with a big rabbit. An ancient legend says the girl named Chang-O has been living there for 4,000 years. It seems she was banished to the Moon because she stole the pill of immortality from her husband. You might also look for her companion, a large Chinese rabbit, who is easy to spot since he is always standing on his hind feet in the shade of a cinnamon tree. The name of the rabbit is not reported.
Michael Collins (CMP): Okay. We'll keep a close eye out for the bunny girl.[note 1]

The International Astronomical Union has assigned the name Chang-Ngo to a small impact crater on the Moon.

In 2007, China launched its first lunar probe, a robotic spacecraft named Chang'e 1 in the Goddess' honor. A second robotic probe, named Chang'e 2, was launched in 2010.[10] A third Chang'e spacecraft, called Chang'e 3, landed on the Moon on 14 December 2013, making China the third country to achieve such a feat after the former Soviet Union and the United States. The lander also delivered the robotic rover Yutu ("Jade Rabbit") to the lunar surface. On 3 January 2019, Chang'e 4 touched down on the far side of the Moon and deployed the Yutu-2 rover. Likewise all Chinese landers since then are named as Chang'e.[11]

#

Ok so

#

(pinging cuz I know he wants to) @fresh quiver

#

I'm not sure where to start from

#

The first step is probably the idea that 1 2 3 are the 3 EEs from level 3 activation

#
  • WR = SLIES
  • Dolphins = CETACEA
  • 3HM = ASCONCE
#

I think we basically gonna go almost straight to the point 😄

#

Although there are some clues which can be useful to find first...

#

In Level 2, the first image was about a Griffin and was full of fire

#

Then we got the Cathedral one with meteors, leading to Aethusa 1064

#

One potential connection here is that William the Conqueror started his conquest in 1064

#

Then overall Level 2 was about 2 things: Gold and Egg

#

In particular in T3 we had 2 question marks, one made of Gold and one made of egg shell/Calcite

#

Then we have this which imo does connect

#

I think this makes a link between egg shell = calcium = skeleton

#

There is one theme that has stuck with Rob for the longest time, and it's the dinosaurs

#
  • we've seen many dino EEs in BF
  • it links to skeletons
  • to the myth of the Griffin (likely from people finding dinosaur bones)
  • even to "barrels barrels barrels" image which is oil barrels?
  • meteors (that wiped them)
  • Linnaeus (which we know is in the hunt)
#

Now that we have that, there is one thing that links the following ideas:

  • dinosaurs
  • sun
  • Black Knight (via King Arthur, Tristan, and some other ways)
  • Merlin
  • William the Conqueror
  • North America, Europe, Asia
  • SLIES, CETACEA, ASCONCE
  • ISS
  • Elvis
  • Ra and Set (egyptian gods)
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Devon
  • 88 (STS, number of constellations)
  • Satan
  • "RR in the middle"
  • Herodotus
  • JBB and LIGO
  • Open Your Eyes
#

anyone wanna take a guess? 😄

dull marsh
#

Black Knight

  • King Arthur's father is Uther Pendragon
  • Tristan has stories with dragons
  • chivalry is often associated to dragons
  • ... (there are likely a bunch more connections)

Welsh Dragon

  • Merlin: has stories with the 2 Welsh dragons
  • William the Conqueror: killed Harold II who's symbol was the dragon

3 EEs

  • SLIES: sly
  • CETACEA: cetus
  • ASCONCE: malicious
All 3 can describe a dragon

HYDRA

  • dragon is heavily associated to the hydra
  • 88 (STS, number of constellations): Hydra is the largest of the 88 constellations
  • JBB and LIGO: the first merger of two neutro stars, GW170817, came from the Hydra constellation

OTHER

  • dinosaurs: interpreted as dragon by many cultures, Sven Hedin expeditions found dinosaur fossils
  • sun: sun deities associated with dragons
  • North America, Europe, Asia: all 3 continents have different forms of dragons
  • ISS: SpaceX Dragon spacecraft
  • Elvis: had a Dragon Suit (just like the Mexican Sun Stone one)
  • Ra and Set (egyptian gods): Set killed Apep (associated with eclipses), Apep being a Dragon
  • Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass (a mirror) has the Jabberwocky (a dragon)
  • Devon: both devonian era (= dinosaurs) and Devon the dragon (from Quest for Camelot)
  • Satan: sometimes associated to a dragon
  • "RR in the middle": can describe both J. R. R. Tolkien (Lord of the Ring) or George R. R. Martin (Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones), both heavily associated to dragons
  • Herodotus: made mentions of dragon-like monsters
  • John the Baptist is sometimes also associated with John of Patmos, which in the New Testament, Revelation 12:3 (123!!) describes a Great Red Dragon
  • Open Your Eyes: from greek etymology

The Greek word δράκων is most likely derived from the Greek verb δέρκομαι (dérkomai) meaning "I see"

Libya -> the coordinates are almost precisely on the Al-Hamra Oil Field, with oil relating to dinosaurs and fossil fuels, and an interesting origin of the name Al-Hamra relating to the color red, iron oxides, and association with The Alhambra -> Korean drama "Memories of the Alhambra" (2018) produced by Studio Dragon, notable for being one of the highest rated kdramas ever, I guess.

Perhaps a clue that we could be thinking in terms of surface exposure dating?

#

Surface exposure dating is a collection of geochronological techniques for estimating the length of time that a rock has been exposed at or near Earth's surface. Surface exposure dating is used to date glacial advances and retreats, erosion history, lava flows, meteorite impacts, rock slides, fault scarps, cave development, and other geological ...

Glaciers, lava flows, and meteorite impacts seem at least a little promising. E.g., the Kara Sea has associated with it both the Kara Crater and the Kara Glacier, it seems.

btw.. the reason I asked about any connection between kitsune and the Kyoto map was based on the fact that this weapon skin always reminded me more of something on the North American frontier, and I noticed a past reference to:
"A short-lived 1964 Broadway musical adaptation entitled Foxy [that] moved the play's setting to the Yukon during the gold rush of 1898. an adaption of Volpone" (posted by Husbandrew)
It just occurred to me that the carved "heart" might instead be a carving of a crude "fox" (a stretch, yes)

#

Separately, I recall (perhaps mistakenly) there being a path made of small stones on Kyoto that curls off and leads to nowhere. The kitsune is known for among other things tricking people in order to lead them astray.
* Sorry, I spent lots of time on Kyoto thinking about any clues from the map that might lead us to one of the two remaining gold nama tamas, and I probably need to let it go.

#

I still like the idea that, just as with the nama tama on Monaco, it is the two other treasure maps we have that should lead us to the other nama tamas (the "Masterplan" one for the Las Vegas casino and this other "Lost Legacy" map)

#

I know someone posted just the other day that we should forget about the gold nama tamas for now, so I apologize for that, too.

I'm currently investigating Dragons Blood

Draco -> Silk Road/ Incense Road? -> Dragons Blood
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incense_trade_route
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon's_blood
comes from the plant Dracaena (or other species)

one of the places where the Dracaena plant originates is -> The Canary Islands
one of our coordinates lies just to the east of the islands

Voyagers to the Canary Islands in the 15th century obtained dragon's blood as dried garnet-red drops from Dracaena draco,

The incense trade route was an ancient network of major land and sea trading routes linking the Mediterranean world with eastern and southern sources of incense, spices and other luxury goods, stretching from Mediterranean ports across the Levant and Egypt through Northeast Africa and Arabia —through both the sea and the land along the Red Sea...

Dragon's blood is a bright red resin which is obtained from different species of a number of distinct plant genera: Calamus spp. (previously Daemonorops) also including Calamus rotang, Croton, Dracaena and Pterocarpus. The red resin has been in continuous use since ancient times as varnish, medicine, incense, pigment, and dye.

#

"Owing to their strategic location, the Canary Islands have long been considered a link between Africa, Europe, and the Americas"

#

poo would be nice if it said Asia though I know why that's not possible lol

#

So in essence

Draco -> Dragons Blood -> Canary Islands -> Very close to one of our coordinates

Re: Possible Kyoto map update
Maybe to go along with @gloomy anvil 's idea that the gold Nama Tama was perhaps originally on Seoul and then moved to Kyoto.
Perhaps it's moved again.
Perhaps just part of the Kyoto map optimization, but I say this because many of the individual stones in the foundations of the buildings have been removed. Consequently, no more "heart-shaped" one at the corner of one of the buildings beneath the cliff that I was thinking might be "fox-shaped." It used to point in the general vicinity of the indestructible tree. Indestructible tree is also gone, now. Similarly, I was pretty sure there was a little stone path leading to nowhere around there. Couldn't find that either.

#

Can post screenshots if it helps, but I think if anyone was still interested in that part of the Kyoto map, the changes might be significant.

#

If we didn't have five pairs of coordinates, I'd like the idea of four of the locations mapping to the Four Symbols, though. E.g.,

  • Kara Sea as the Black Tortoise of the North (kara = black in Turkish?);
  • Tengiz, Kazakhstan as the Azure Dragon of the East (Tengiz right next to the Caspian Sea; "azure" deriving from Persian)
  • Al-Hamra, Libya as the Vermillion Bird of the South (Al-Hamra = red)...
Unfortunately, simple pigeonhole problem when 5 locations and 4 symbols
#

Some notable birds associated with Libya include flamingos (some flamingos are described as having vermillion plumage) and the red kite or milvus milvus (less vermillion, more rusty, it seems to me)

Given the depth of the ocean at this location (near the deepest point in the whole Atlantic Ocean), the best I could find was the idea of biolumiscent deep-sea, cold-water coral for a "White Tiger"... meh
https://www.mbari.org/news/glow-in-the-dark-corals-light-up-the-deep-sea/

A new research paper shows that some of the most common and iconic deep-sea corals can create their own light.

#

A nice CaCO3 connection, though. 🙂

#

Only 4 symbols, but there are 5 phases (or elements)... hmm

#

Not a central location (actually the southernmost of the 5 mapped locations), but just on the Sudan side of the Sudan-Chad border, it would need to correspond to the "Yellow Dragon of the Center". There does seem to be a connection between Sudan and yellow (though, probably not the only one, and I'm sure you could find associations with any color, as well). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudan_Yellow_3G

Sudan Yellow 3G, also known as Solvent Yellow 16, C.I. disperse yellow and C.I. 12700, is a yellow azo dye. It is soluble in fats and oils.
Sudan Yellow 3G is used as a pigment in cosmetics and printer toners, and as a dye in inks, including inks for inkjet printers. In pyrotechnics, it is used in some yellow colored smokes.

#

Oh, Sudan has vast gold resources. That could be worth noting.

#

Also, vast deserts.

#

The "most common insects" in Sudan seem to be mostly dragonflies, at least according to one source (I don't know how rare that is) https://pictureinsect.com/region/Sudan-Country.html

#

Ancient Egypt included part of Sudan, especially the part that the Nile River flowed through, and my impression is that the dragonflies are connected to the Nile and potentially to Ancient Egypt, as well. Pretty far from the mapped location, though, on the Sudan-Chad border, far to the west.

This feels somewhat plausible (would appreciate holes being poked):

  • Kara Sea mapped location
  • Kara = Black and Russian
  • Black + Russian tortoises
  • Russian tortoises in space -> Zond 5 -> Baikonur Cosmodrome
  • Black Tortoise of the North (Chinese Symbol)
  • Richard Garriott -> 1st extraterrestrial geocache, coordinates Baikonur Cosmodrome
  • Richard Garriott -> "Lord British" (vague knight association)
  • Black Tortoise of the North a Chinese symbol also symbolizing midnight
  • Garriott as "Lord British" and Origin Systems "Knights of Legend" (1989)
  • Collectively -> Black Knight Nama Tama in Space?

I was hesitant on these three as a group because "warren" has not actually come up directly in the EE hunt. That said, as we've talked about before, it naturally connects to "burrow" and also Warren Robinett (WR), creator of one of the very first easter eggs in gaming.

Re: the gold nama tamas

  • Rob: "yes… level 3 is all about them… 1, 2, 3…"
  • The gold nama tamas, in order, in the official art, are (1) "Hear no evil", (2) "See no evil", (3) "Speak no evil"
  • 3-part passwords (ideally adding up to 19 characters)
  • Geocache clues theory: Perrott + Perot + Garriott (unfortunately adding up to 20 characters)
  • The 3 o's represent the gold nama tamas, perhaps rendered as egg-shaped zeroes (0's; see the clues about "null," etc.)
  • Perrott (letterboxing): people write letters, which you can read but not hear
  • Perot (author of a book in the original 'OCB' geocache): sealed in a black bucket, inside of which was dark, and in the dark one cannot see
  • Garriott (carried the first geocache to go into space): in the vacuum of space, one cannot speak; Garriott also fits "xyrr1x2" pretty well, imo
  • Bonus: I still think this links to the Black Turtle-Snake of the North (see previous posts) and Black Knight Nama Tama in Space, and possibly the middle X in the top row of the Level 3 landing page (cuz I'm stubborn)
Happy to admit that it's not as tight as I'd like, but I have between 0% and 1% confidence that a password might end up being something like:
    "perr0ttper0tgarri0tt"
Either way, it's no good without any hints at all from Rob, but I think it ties a decent number of clues together.
Note: In this case, could mean we don't have to actually find the gold nama tamas to get some of the passwords, but better to find them, obviously.
#

Re: An old theory I never posted about an old clue (could be better though)
Directly from Rob:
(1) Ed Terry Beth (see also "Terry S; Kate N; Beth H")
(2) Dunsmure
(3) Mervin
In my opinion, (1) was solved by @Suri. Check out Costa-Gavras’ film Missing (1982) if you want to confirm.
For (2), I think I found a "Dunsmure" that would fit with a film, theater, and music theme, and also thematically with this whole Big Whoop being a "Treasure Hunt".
John Dunsmure, the actor, played “Slug” Bullard in the Gershwin musical Treasure Girl (1928).
For (3), Mervin could be the musician Mervin Shiner
(1) Ed Terry Beth ---> MISSING
(2) Dunsmure ---> TREASURE GIRL
(3) Mervin ---> SHINER
Parsed like this, MISSING TREASURE / GIRL SHINER, the “GIRL SHINER” part would very likely point to the painting, “The Young Lady With the Shiner”, by Norman Rockwell.
If you look for an association between “MISSING TREASURE” and “Norman Rockwell”, you are naturally led to the story behind his painting
“BREAKING HOME TIES”.
Just one theory of many, I'm sure.

#

Breaking Home Ties is a painting by American illustrator Norman Rockwell, created for the September 25, 1954, cover of The Saturday Evening Post. The picture represents a father and son waiting for a train that will take the young man to the state university. Another Connection I just found or just havent found with search in discord:

buroughs, burrow.

IMO close enough

Okay so I have a pretty weak knowledge of every easter egg so far, but for a while I have been following information about specifically the roses from a distance for a bit now. I have a theory, I don't know if it has been said before or if it is crazy, but here it is. What if there are no roses that you can find on Monaco (the most likely map for the roses to be of significance), instead what if we need to find some way to trigger them to spawn on Monaco first.

Looking at the wiki, if quoted correctly, Rob said "Roses are available on all maps", but I find it peculiar that he specifically said Roses are available on all maps. I was reading through some chats here today, and months ago someone said Rob said it is the hardest easter egg yet the easiest easter egg to find. Whats easy to find? The roses on the practice range. What if there is some way to get these roses to move from the PR to Monaco? My first thought was "what if I am in the practice range and get queued into a match while holding a rose" but unfortunately you can't be in the practice range while queuing, so my next idea is something to do with the arena generator, but I don't really have much more ideas beyond that. Maybe this is something aswell, including the practice range The Finals launched with 5 maps, could there be one rose for each map?

TLDR: I have a theory that maybe we can't find roses on any map other than the practice range, and instead we need to find a way to get the practice range roses on other maps.

hard current
#

good theory for sure, and imo probably pretty likely considering how many people have scoured the maps!

#

now triggering them... don't think anybody has a clue at all

#

maybe it's the generators but nobody knows for sure

versed knot
#

Yeah I have seen some talk about triggering them to spawn in some way, that is honestly probably more likely than this theory. Just a few things when put together led me down this path, such as how it sounds like each map may have its own trigger, which maybe the roses have something to do with that

rugged breach

What if there is a pattern you have to make with the roses in the PR to trigger them to spawn in the other maps?

rugged breach
#

They would perpetually be available in all maps since the pr is

#

Which contradicts rob's comment

versed knot
#

Does he say somewhere else that they're in maps sometimes? He said "not right now", which sounds to me like they're not in any map until a pattern is unlocked. If we don't know for sure I don't think we should be ruling out theories like mine

Theory: a few of the clues we got for L3 are for the ISS. or more specific for the Nodes 1, 2 and. Their names are 1: Unity, 2: Harmony, 3: Tranquility
which could connect with 123 clues.
3 dawns -> 3 sisters -> Zarya was also a ISS module before Node 1 was launched.
The ISS has 6 Common Berthing Mechanism locations. (forward, aft, port, starboard, zenith and nadir)
The 6 from the 6 locations could also be: Hex
Zenith could also be a clue iirc?

Unity was also the primary cargo of STS-88

IF we also use the 457 clue from @unkempt dune #1218999342652981278 message
4.57m is the diameter of the Node1 module Unity

Was just fooling around with the deneb -> Summer Triangle -> Altair, Deneb, Vega idea (which seems promising :)).
Instead, I ended up sidetracked and thinking about "Dawns" again.
It's not yet "3 Dawns", but in addition to the Dawn space probe and mission as part of the Discovery Program (Discovery 9), there was also a Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) space probe and mission named Akatsuki, which translates to "Dawn". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akatsuki_(spacecraft)

Akatsuki (あかつき, 暁; "Dawn"), also known as the Venus Climate Orbiter (VCO) and Planet-C, was a Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) space probe tasked with studying the atmosphere of Venus. It was launched aboard an H-IIA 202 rocket on 20 May 2010, but failed to enter orbit around Venus on 6 December 2010. After the craft orbited t...

Nozomi (Japanese: のぞみ; lit. "Wish" or "Hope", and known before launch as Planet-B) was a Japanese Mars orbiter that failed to reach Mars due to electrical failure. #

Oh, right.... I think someone just mentioned that the ISS has a "Dawn" module. (Is it this Russian one named Rassvet (Рассвет; "First Light")? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rassvet_(ISS_module)
Not sure if that makes a group of "3 Dawns" that might be relevant, but it's kinda interesting that you get U.S., Japanese, and Russian "Dawns" in connection with spacecraft.
I don't know... maybe someone who knows the history throughout the hunt can help with this.
We've had Zarya (Заря; "Sunrise") as the first ISS module for a long time, and though it is translated as "Sunrise" here, the Slavic figure of folklore Zorya is said to personify "Dawn," as either 1, 2, or 3 entities (e.g., 3 sisters).
When I asked Google to translate "Dawn" to Russian literally, the translation that was given was rassvet (рассвет).

Rassvet (Russian: Рассвет, lit. 'first light'), also known as the Mini-Research Module 1 (MRM 1, Russian: Малый исследовательский модуль 1) and formerly known as the Docking Cargo Module, is a component of the International Space Station (ISS). The module's design is similar to the Mir Docking Module launche...

#

Zarya the "3 sisters"?
Dawn, Akatsuki, and Rassvet our "3 dawns"?
I guess I'm just curious whether the focus on Zarya led to perhaps Rassvet slipping through the cracks.

Curious coincidence about the Nozomi spacecraft and mission, depending on which time zone you use, it could be said that the Nozomi was launched on July 3, 1998, the same day that Danielle Bunten Berry died (highlighted by Rob in the burrw GIF analysis thread). More generally, does 1998 feel disproportionately significant to anyone among the clues to date? Not sure what it would mean if it is, though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danielle_Bunten_Berry

Danielle Bunten Berry (born Daniel Paul Bunten, February 19, 1949 – July 3, 1998), was an American game designer and programmer, known for the 1983 game M.U.L.E., one of the first influential multiplayer video games, and 1984's The Seven Cities of Gold.
In 1998, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Computer Game Developers Ass...

#

Probably just another nice homage to a legend, but Danish studio Ghost Ship Games' Deep Rock Galactic (2018, early access) features a robotic pack mule named M.U.L.E., which is presumably named after the Multiple Use Labor Elements, or M.U.L.E.s, that players use to develop and harvest resources in Berry's video game M.U.L.E. (1983).

Re: "MW.Area"?
Here's a Berry game that really stands out for how it was played over modem.
Modem Wars (1988) was one of the early games played by two players over a dial-up modem.
Modem Wars was ahead of its time, as few people in the late 1980s had modems in their homes.
The initials M.W. are probably just a coincidence, but it's one that has not previously been suggested.

#

Dan Bunten's Modem Wars is a real-time tactics game developed by Ozark Softscape and published by Electronic Arts in 1988 for the Commodore 64. A version for IBM PC compatibles was released in 1989.
Modem Wars is played over a modem connection between two machines (via telephone or null modem serial connection), with both players controlling a g...

I just realized this myself looking at WRD3HM and wondering why the Right Ascension (RA) of EZ Aquarii was included. The triple star system = 3 connection seems a little weak on its own but having the clue be the RA itself could've been a pointer at both 3 and 19.
