Hello, everyone! I've wanted to share what I've found about glitches on maps. Can't post in threads, so I'll post it here.

So, I noticed that glitch pattern seems to be a tileable image that just randomly shifts along the x and y axes. I took multiple screenshots of a same glitch on Skyway Stadium and combined them together. That resulted in a visible pattern, which I then painted to a pixel-perfect image.

Interesting things about the pattern:

• repeats every 21 pixels along the x axis
• repeats every 63 pixels along the y axis
• every 3 pixels along y axis are similar

These 3 things made me think that the pattern is just scaled by 3 on the y axis. Hence, if we take a 21x63 frame and scale it down, then we'll get a 21x21 pixels binary image (really promising result I think).

I later converted the image into bits and tried to convert them to the Unicode characters, but this doesn't seem to work. Values go off range no matter which frame is taken from the original pattern. (I interpreted bits from left to right and didn't try decoding in other directions like right to left, top to bottom and bottom to top).

Maybe the 21x21 square size of the image should lead to something about it (could be a 21x21 QR code?).

I see two key problems with this pattern.

• There might be a way to find a correct frame position, maybe by applying some restrictions to decoded data. Otherwise, we should sort through all possible frames (21x21=441 variants) when decoding the image.
• There are 2 contiguous lines of all zeros which just may serve as a delimiter along y axis for the pattern, but without them the image will be 21x19 pixels.

I forgot to reply to this yesterday, but yeah, there were mistakes in the original list and Rob pointed out that things were missing, which to me says that’s important. We were so focused on the numbers though, we never considered removing the numbers completely.

Yeah I agree it could either be removing the numbers or accounting for a mix of roman numerals and numbers

I feel removing the numbers is potentially a better path after doing the math. vit3llus in particular has pretty wonky math if you consider 3 50 50 which if you don't add the numbers with roman numerals due to not following the same number system, it'd be 3100 for that section of the code
