You've inspired me to do something similar. I'm using an adjustment layer for the image and making EVERYTHING black. Then on one color channel I use the tool that lets you draw the curve to elevate a single color from that channel. See how there's a single red dot high up in that curve, but the rest is down low? Then I manually make layers out of anything that was revealed there.

Theoretically if I do this I can build up only the pieces which were actually revealed by many curve adjustments.

Tried doing a difference/exclusion/subtract/divide of frame 01365 and the THE_FINALS_THX_TO_YOU_ALL_LOVE_EMBARK.jpg. They have slightly different adjustment levels, but afaik there's nothing hidden in the difference between the video frame and the image.

I'm a bit worried it's impossible to distinguish noise when going color by color for each channel, causing my manual selections to pick up too much noise. I'm hoping that in the end I can average some of the noise out.... but I don't know if that will be possible because each color layer I work with contains so little valuable info....

A decent way to get a quick look at where the stuff is we're looking for is to apply a Threshold Adjustment Layer in Photoshop and set the threshold to 27

You'll immediately see these chunks pop out of the footer of the image, but they're not clear enough to work with.
