Just getting back, plus they dont have a good enough infrastructure for hiring computer scientists. I could do freelancing there or open a business, but the moving logistics need to be worked out.

I was there for a 2 year Mormon mission before, then went back and worked part time for my first year back 2018-2019 then came back to the U.S for full time school. I would love to stay there though and plan on potentially moving back here in the next 3 ish years no matter what.

I could try and get on at embark doing data analytics (my final project for my data analysis class was on the finals)

Though I would like to go back to doing software engineering for something in science, which was my job while I was in school. I did full stack for the Utah Climate Center

I've been side-eying the idea of a digital nomads for some time now, if you don't know about it: they often have a full remote job, often from their origin country, or open a biz/freelance, and live from place to place abroad, also in general rather staying where you have lower living costs. leading to either earning some good bucks or even reducing your work hours . it could be somewhat applicable to you maybe? but yeah I guess a lot of things have to go right for something like that to work out

I guess I shouldn't really say infrastructure as much as they are scared to hire from the U.S. for whatever reason.
I applied for a position doing dev ops for the school administration on Majuro, and they responded that they could give me the position but it wouldn't be anything like the pay here in the U.S. Which I had no problem with.
They never got back to me and they never hired for the position. So maybe they found someone internally, but when talking to a buddy of mine I knew over there he said they are afraid to hire Americans because of their living standards.

The main reason I am waiting for the three years and staying at my current job is so I can hopefully get something that pays well and allows me to work in another country. I would love to just be able to move around whenever.

without having looked into it, i doubt that there are enough people living this lifestyle to even make an impact, it's also not like full remote jobs exist in masses, being only an option for a fraction of jobs.

gentrification is happening all over the world. you can look at any major city, also where i live, and i don't think it's because of digital nomads. although i could see how they might drive up prices in high rent/gentrified areas even more.
but these areas aren't affordable for locals anymore anyways. not trying to excuse it, but whether the local has to pay 500% or 600% more doesn't make much of a difference anymore. the situation is fucked well before already.

at the end you have someone putting money into the economy without taking a job which i guess is a win for the economy. but then you also have potentially negative effects, such as driving prices up (locally) especially when having no regard for the economy/price, just spending it mindlessly, pretty much griefing the economy for the locals. probably paying less taxes than locals too.
i think it's more of a systemic issue, the distribution of wealth, how the taxing works, which i can well believe signifies the negative effects digital nomands leave on places than the positive economical gains of them spending their money there.
but again, i don't think the portion of digital nomads is that high to have a significant effect.

i don't want to dismiss you, you definitely have a point and i haven't thought too much about it before, but i wouldn't think it's a horrible practice. you have only one life and if this is a way for you to live a fulfilling life, i'd do it. i think there are other more important pressing issues that fuck up the economy for the locals than digital nomads.

at the end this is just how i see it, i haven't looked at numbers or studies so i'm open to learn more!

I'm not an expert either but this checks out to me. Not that long ago there were reports about Mexican citizens complaining about digital nomads mostly american or expats of course able to afford these areas that are now becoming more gentrified.

This theme is common with vehemently anti-immigration type stuffs as well. That removing people who "don't belong" will make things better for us. As you mentioned however the bottom line is that inequality starts with the bigger picture & we're left blaming each other because that seems more achievable than tackling the system itself.

It's sort of amazing how in depth these conversations can go with studies or valid efforts to back them up that even make a fair amount of sense that never touch on the people who are creating the divide in the first place.

i dont know where to put this else. im so tired. i have to time play the finals maybe once a week and everytime i world tour there are just major qualifications teams which simply farm the lobby and nothing's more. i always end up on 3th-4th place. i don't even remember when was the last time i saw the round 1 --> round 2 transition screen. i put as effort as i can every f****ng time and there's simply nothing after that (except for the 40k$ top teams' cashout while mine has zero). i really like the game and there's no way i can enjoy it since no one nor i nor my team (i guess the matchmaking for some reason puts all lowskill players, including me, in one team) have the lowest score in all terms: dmg, support and, of course, cash

Remove world tour and do ranked only. Cashout as a gamemode needs some sort of SBMM, and the grind to do both emerald and ruby is impossible.

All quickplay modes should have zero ssbm, but far to many noobs get stomped in world tour and then blame the matchmaker, not knowing there is currently zero sbmm in WT.

rule sets can be talked about ans refined later, but this would also make que times faster having one less tournament mode, and having all players in one mode would allow for better sbmm

Yeah, Digg used to be king when it was Digg vs. Reddit vs. Netscape vs. Delicious. Then Digg made too many goofy changes, got sold, then Reddit took the crown.

There's a pretty solid amount. Those of us who joined at launch were chomping at the bit to get in, and I plan to get a /TheFinals and/or /ARCRaiders community set up soon. But yeah, the site is slowly getting there. There's a big focus on AI assisting with moderation, etc., rather than relying so much on human moderation, which was one of the big issues with Reddit. They're super open to feedback.

So with the new Digg, AI is a heavy component. So they're trying to push AI tools to the forefront, so there's less ability for mods to abuse their power. Currently, the communities are pre-built sort of pre-sets, but they were talking about you having the ability to turn different bots on/off for your community so there's even-handed moderation. At present, I don't believe any users are mods, just the team + AI help.

So they want people to have control over their communities, but they want transparency that Reddit doesn't currently provide. Which is what led me to delete my Reddit account of 15 years 2 days ago.

I think I pulled off a pretty cool setup for capturing game content

I got the game running on pc and use NDI to capture screen and stream through local network to OBS on my MacBook

What I get is near zero performance drop on pc even when recording in 4k60 because the encoding task is done on the MacBook

Start blazing hot to get good browning, then reduce heat to simmer. You can always drain the juices while cooking, though they should be fine to just let evaporate. I usually toss in at minimum some Worcester sauce to get a minor glaze going as the liquids reduce.
