Just a fair warning, jumping into a games “end game” can lead to frustration of not understanding mechanics and getting dogged on by people who do. I’d highly recommend against spending any money on the game (besides premium time if you want) till you get to rank 4 for a country. Of course, play however you want. But I have nearly 2k time in the game and have made plenty of mistakes myself and seen others make with buying their way to top tier without understanding the basics first.

If you really want to buy a plane, get one of the mid tier single engine props. They’ll be the most dynamic and fun to play with while not forcing you into top tier gameplay.

Even after all this time, I rarely play top tier anymore. I don’t enjoy it as much as mid tier vehicles. Of course to each their own

Defyn’s a great YouTuber to watch who does solely air gameplay and aircraft review if you’re curious about what each tier looks like.

Alright it's gonna sound a bit weird, but for recommendations we got the following:

US: A6M2 or Bf 109 F4 for dog fighting
Russia: P-47D-27 for boom and zoom fighting

The bf109 and p47 can also hold their own in ground rb for bombing and straffing light armor targets

But I talked with a few others and those would be the best starting air craft to get your bearings and learn the different flows of the game while still being useful for some minor grinding

My recommendation would be staying away from helicopters until you reach a rank in ground rb that can pair with them. Currently the only option for heli's outside of ground rb is PvE only, which I find gets a bit dull after grinding for a bit. Up to you though, if you like PvE and shooting ground targets then go right ahead.

The british and russian tech tree's have VTOL jets with the Harrier and Yak-104, but they're pretty far along. I'd stay away from spending loads of money on this game till you learn the basics and if you like it. I've spent wayyy too much on this game for things I don't enjoy.

Heli's are loads of fun though. I've gotten the little bird in the american tech tree and have so much fun being a little nimble scout going around the map blowing people up and capping objectives

The “realistic” mode is a lot more fun imo. Game still holds your hands with most of the controls but you actually have autonomy and have to learn the game a bit about how to lead shots, energy retention, etc.

Definitely start out with arcade, but don’t shy away from the realistic battles when you feel confident.
