Today I logged into Dark and Darker—or as I now refer to it, Gold and Golder, the medieval financial simulator where you fight skeletons not for glory, but for increased vault capacity.

The update proudly removed random stats from all gear, which I imagine was meant to "streamline the experience." It certainly has. Gear looting is now roughly as exciting as opening your fridge and finding the same sandwich in every drawer. No spice. No chaos. No “Oh my word, look at this cursed +3 pair of socks that boosts strength and intelligence and smells like fear.” Just uniform, lifeless gear. I cried.

Combat, to its credit, is still rather fun—if you enjoy the kind of fun where your character dies before your brain finishes telling your finger to block. Time to kill is so low now I feel like I'm participating in some sort of medieval flash mob: I appear, I swing once, and then I’m face down in the mud contemplating the fragility of life.

Solos are still missing. I assume they were quietly locked in a dungeon somewhere and given a stern talking-to about not being monetizable enough. I tried to play duos with a friend, but he betrayed me, left with my loot, and is now reportedly selling prayer candles to fund a bigger vault.

As for gold: I now have a great deal of it. Not because I’m good, but because there is, quite literally, nothing to spend it on. The last thing I purchased was a larger gold storage chest. I then paid gold to store the gold I earned while looting things that cost no gold and provide no gear that could be bought with gold. This is not a game anymore. This is a financial anxiety simulator with swords.

If the devs had released a new dungeon boss named “Economic Recession,” it would honestly feel less symbolic.

Allowing players that are FTP to use gear they find while also having incentive to buy the game to be able to use random modifiers and experience a more in depth version. Create a public forum that allows players to weekly give advice on what tweaks are needed in the upcoming patches in this gray period with statistic that the player base can see and feel their opinions being heard even if its not a majority decision that will surely happen.

SDF said they will finally use the test server to test what they do with the rolls. When they dropped the update on test people raged and said its hf#69 allover again and SDF told us basically "this is just the baseline and they will see how they add rolls moving forward". Even to 69 sdf said it was just a test and that he learned now that this isnt fun(like we all didnt know b4)... So why?.. why would you literally roll out the same patch as test? basically the same as 69.. Nothing is fixed either.. this created more problems than it solved and desync is worse than ever.. Been playing from the start couple of thousand hours have never bad mouth a patch or update before but man this is just not fun I get the idea of what they are doing but they overstepped the mark by a billion feet. Gear is boring as hell now but if they add it so lets say all plate gear can roll physical dmg reduiction and each step up increases the ammount. All daggers roll action speed or armour pen we still dont have random rolls but gear would feel like a puurpose and you could craft builds again. I think the deathcam will show exactly how your client has registered the actions made by all parties, so it should be 100% what you saw on your screen just not accounting for the desync shown on other peoples screens. So it can be indicative of desync allthought it could be internet issues. And it seems really bad this wipe for me too so far bardiche hitting me on 4meters range. Honestly would reccommend watching SpudHunters video on it but its pretty fun real early days reminds me of the early playtests of DnD might not be for everyone but if you want to scratch an itch of dark and darker its your best bet. Plus for what 12 beans you cant do any better even just hop on and give it a spin. Do have to say the skill celling is high as hell but community inside is super nice. Player numbers might seem low but I play on EU during work hours and maps feel busier than most dark and darker runs

the skill ceiling is 100% higher than DaD, no doubt. But 3rd person kills it for me, the long animation based combat. And 0 freedom for builds makes gear feel just as shit as DaD rn. Gear just makes you stronger without really changing playstyle despite them having pseudo-creative perks. I find it great but playing it is 0 fun, no matter if i win or loose, pvp or pve its all monotone and boring.

Skill based? Getting one tapped isn’t a skill you can build upon. Spamming arrows isn’t a skill you can improve upon. Here’s an idea: make gear brackets so squire gamers can’t queue up in the same lobbies as bis gamers.. oh wait we had that and they removed it. Sdf is catering to himself and new players but when the new players become seasoned they realize the game isn’t fun because it caters to new players. It’s a poor feedback loop where you’re punished for being good at the game. Gear used to make good players better and new players a reason to get better. Now gear is worthless meaning there is no reason to progress. It’s an extraction looter but now the loot has no value and extracting does nothing for you.

Edit: my full legendary set has the same stats as a green set pre-patch. It makes more sense to just run squire gear every game rather than grinding good gear.

Game is pretty balanced right now. Fights are fair and making errors really penalize now.

The main problem is that looting (which is one of the pillars from this game), it feels horrible.

For example, I would add just 1 random modifier to certain items.

so everyone takes more damage, and dropped rogue vig to 6, so you die in 1-2shots, not a joke barb headshots just kill you, they nerfed dagger damage, and as mentioned no real way to increase dmg, so you take 5/6 headshots to kill someone, while they swing twice and end you with even body shots

Honestly, i get it, I'm also a player, and a solo one at that, but I'm also a mod, and we have to moderate, the timers are helping us catch those that wish actually to cause harm, or are taking advantage of the chaos.

I get that balancing is an issue, and that the game was originally built for squads of 3. I also understand gear disparity can be problematic.

But what I don’t get is this binary, all-or-nothing approach. You removed random mods completely — why not just tone them down? Instead of +1% move speed, why not +0.2%? A smart nerf would have made more sense than a full wipe.

Your level of incompetence is honestly hard to grasp. You clearly don’t understand what made this game good when it had a strong player base: the tension, the risk of losing, the reward of extracting good loot. That’s all gone.

No real content in ages, but you keep pushing paid skins and stash upgrades. It’s pathetic. You should be ashamed.

@fallen umbra There's a whole world between what we had before the wipe and removing all random attribute. Imo what we had last wipe, without true damage and maybe without base stat on ring and necklace (like it used to be for the longest time) would be very good. And there's room to test either 2 random attribute for green and 3 for epic and legendary. Or 3 base stat for green and blue (with 1 and 2 random attribute) and 4 base stat for epic and leg (with 3 and 4 attribute). Even a mix of both
