what's the current downside of Fighters? Is Rogue (the stealth class) stealthy again? It's been awhile, Has there been any balance changes?

back when I played Wizards were a dying breed, you'd get turned to dust by every class, Barbs, could 1 shot and had tank but not enough to match the might of the fighter, warlock, was neat but is kinda like if a wizard was given a shread of fighters power. Rogue became a mule class to make money and be nerfed, Rangers are interesting but even free heals doesn't make up for giving up all the power of the unstoppable force of fighter. and they'd be the middle if we're talking the peak of a moutain

we've been here several times before but they have not corrected the behavior. if the patch is bad you have to be comfortable with reverting (not rolling back, reverting). i assume the emergency stuff made patching at prime time on a god danged friday unavoidable, but if they had an exit strategy we wouldn't be having this conversation.

the thing is that the game was functional as of monday night. there were some small improvements (and steps back) with Wednesday's patch, which is presumably where the critical bugs were introduced, but they needed to be ready at a moment's notice to return to monday's patch if it all went belly up, not take the game down for 12+ hours without any communication since

i'm not in game dev, but i am a dev myself and in my particular industry we have to assess risk and are told to push outside of times that would have dangerous impact on the business. they can definitely take steps to avoid having to have timetables like these, or risk actually killing the game more than stale content etc.

this would be a lot more understandable if they didnt have a tendency to push after a workday on us hours, which makes no flipping sense given that the patch went out at around 7 or 8 am kor time. if they waited til the afternoon their time, only off-peak players in eu or us is affected, and they still have a couple+ hours to find and address bugs for their own timezone. and it could have been on a sunday or monday.

They are changing the entire code that handles inventory and loot management and object permenance, so it can be better adjusted and added too in the future. The way it is coded currently has made it too difficult for them to add things like backpacks and quivers. IM however has totally fucked the patch up, but If they ever do fix the inventory it should idealy look and function exactly as it does now, just be easier on the back end for them to add and chagne things in the future.

Honestly if I was Ironmace right now, I'd actually take the L and restart the game's development, but leave a parting gift for players who purchased the game:

-Allow players to have singleplayer games
-Allow players to host community servers

And then when development gets to a point where the game is in a better, more acceptable state with more manpower working on it, release the newer and more polished version of the game while keeping "Dark and Darker (Original)" as its own thing and letting players who purchased classic own the newer game.

This will more than likely be what saves this game, as crushing as that might be for everyone. This is probably the game's only way to survive and get better.

here's an update: the same inventory code rewrite that was letting rogues loot you completely naked in the prematch lobby was enabling dupe bug #652366 and so they have diverted all of their effort to fixing that before the wipe so that the new season (which may be their last hope to save the game from its constant decline) does not turn into a dupe shitshow with half of the teams in crypts running around with violas and pulverizing prayers

my own theory, or the discord server's theory? as for the latter it's because everybody else is cheating/mean/a bully and it makes them die even though they are skilled ninjas and better than everyone else. my own theory is that the devs have gradually replaced organic player interaction with dopamine treadmill meta progression like HR leaderboards, point grinding, and quests, which boost playercount in the short term (while the addiction has a hold on people) but causes them to quit the game when their addiction fades out due to not being able to get their fix during the outages

That's not an excuse... They made a game quick, sloppy, with terribly functioning base code, as they admitted themselves. So players coming in nto knowing this, which is the vast majority of them, then seeing them flail and fail at just about everything, barely put in any content becaues all they focus on is half baked, terrible decisions for balancing, and adjusting numbers for a year, etc.. soapy could have created a cash prize event that brought in thousands of returning players and attract new players to test their merit for the prize pool but they gatekeep it to the small community of twitch patners/streamers that probably participated in the gold scrim servers so they can all get more content for themselves. They can do whatever they want, but I see this as a selfish move that could have actually benefited the growth of the game and community instead of their channel careers. Who is to say they don't just give the money back like they did with gear in the gold scrim servers. Im not hyped about it at all anymore.

they had zero impact on the rest of the community, that is a completely lame narrative. the only ones impacted were the rat rogues that infested all the lobbies. as for any team that got 'gatekept' from bis gear, if you didnt have 1mil+ stash value at that point in endwipe, you would of just gotten steamrolled in those lobbies anyway, hence the gear restrictions. the invitations were pretty lose even, a lot of inexperienced teams got to play as well. not saying it is needed though, GBMM has mostly solved that issue except for cases where rats are getting in by buying a bunch of trashed weapons.

They likely do have backup copies, but rolling back code is a massive headache for a laundry list of reasons... which is why the smartest strategy is to deploy to staging environments to catch critical issues before you deploy it to production. Honestly I think they need to really ramp up their QA environments or something. This is pretty rediculous. But they also made the strange decision to knowingly deploy massive inventory changes and even admitted it would be broken. I don't really get why you wouldn't use the alternative test server.
