found it more useful in the group setting. When you're running with multiple people and have plenty of heals, it's more of a icing on the cake kinda deal. A good top off between fights.
well most people in crazy gear will go to highroller i would imagine so you could grind gear in normal mode

Queue is the place where you can start looking for a game and invite someone. Lobby is the place where you are waiting for other players and gather. Match/Run is the stage where you spawn
Lobby is like front room of office building, after character select is like you went to the lobby, now which floor you go to: store or join game or trade?

It's ok for me @magic hazel @plain fjord, but I don't unterstand why many players said "I clear the entire lobby", or "X kills lobby" in a youtube video, or "this lobby was easy" for example.

For the warden applications there is " We are not currently not accepting applications " title, I talked with Timothy about my TR language chat suggestion + my warden application a few days ago, he said there is no estimated time for getting accepted or denied, he waited for 2 weeks for an example for a result. It has been a few days for me, do they consider applications that we sent before that text or even we applicated before it, still getting denied automatically ?
What @magic hazel and @plain fjord said, but it's worth mentioning that every player who enters the match lobby (or room of players, different from party lobby), will also be part of the upcoming match/game. So by killing every player in the match/game, you essentially killed this specific match lobby, or "cleared the lobby". Does this make sense?

that’s definitely a feature most of the time. if they aim for the tip of your head it’ll still hit behind a shield bc your head sticks out from behind a shield.

Yes but if that's how it's supposed to work, then hitting a shield shouldn't do any damage instead of a reduction in damage. If you are still going to take damage when successfully blocking, then it should block all frontal attacks.

i know how block is supposed to work... but i tested with friends. Punches and small weapons such as daggers just go through the shield... i dont know if it is a hurtbox bug, or something like that...

I'm not trying to make it easier. That's just how these games normally work. If the shield doesn't block all attacks unless it's perfect and even then you take damage it's not worth blocking at all. If your goal is for no one to use a shield then that's fine. I'm just pointing out what you said which was when you hold up your shield your body parts still stick out. If you didn't say that then please explain.
Also if my understanding is incorrect you could just explain how I'm wrong instead of being an ass hat.

Some weapons clip through the shield regardless of what you do if you're at close range - anything with a stab can hit the player through the shield

i think you just didn’t play enough with the shield tbh. it sounds like you don’t understand how it worked. i got a fighter to lv 20 and it was an amazing time.
there’s still WILDLY good reasons to block, since if you’re skilled you can block nearly 90% of damage.
i never experienced this as a rogue or felt it as a fighter but i believe u. for sure plenty of bugs still.

Irl if a sword hits my shield I don't start bleeding unless my shield is busted.
I suppose you are correct though. It's hard to dodge if you are cornered so you can use that shield and 3 hits later be dead.

Wasn't this because the hit range on daggers is so close? Usually dagger users compensate for lag/latency by being literally in your face, and the game thinks that your dagger is now "behind the shield" at least this is why I accepted things bypassing my shield or "glancing" blocked blows due to players dragging weapon hitboxes. Easily seen when you're too close to something to break it but back up 1 step and now suddenly it topples because the game now registers your weapon hitbox correctly. I also believe this is 100% intentional.

Personally felt shields though can be good, they just seem to need a ton more equipment centered around them due to the massive vision, and move speed loss in a 3v3 setting. In a 1v1 they can excel and certain choke point scenarios, but it felt like a lot of work for much less gain over wielding 1) Magic, 2) 2handers/high impact weapons 3)Be a barb 4)kiting/simple circle strafing around a shielded target (very easy to do in chaotic grp scenarios and the severe move speed penalty of shields)
A little late to this convo but I played Cleric where my role in the group was to heal/buff and if I got collapsed on I would shield block while my team hopefully killed whoever was attacking me. While daggers were at times hard to block I was definitely able to block them after I got some practice.

When using dual wield daggers holding left and right click together only the kriss and stiletto in combination seem to rotate. Using rondel and Castilian or any other combo it just swings one. Idk if that intentional but would love to be able dual wield any dagger combo with alternating swings u kinda get it to work with some combos by alternating them ur self but inconsistent and doesn’t feel great.

Is there any reason why dual welding should be used? You can't attack with both weapons at the same time nor make a combo mixing the attacks but also have slower movement speed

Kris and stiletto also works, hatchet and horsemen axe for barb, but ya nothing else that I’ve found. It would be nice to see them all work next playtest feels really good even if it doesn’t directly increase any dps

btw if there is Attack speed 0.6s/0.56s/0.75s and damage 100%/90%/70% why would you even not just do first attack over and over?
Thats what that page states for arming swords for example
because combos are faster
But it literally says Attack Speed 0.75 and the first attack is 0.6

For NPCs doing the first attack over and over is probably your best bet, but humans, each swing has a different attack pattern so it's harder to block instead of just using the first attack over and over. The last attack on an alarming sword is also a stab so it has longer reach than the first two swings.

yeah a blue recurve bow with good stats is goated
think of it slightly differently though, blue longbow is powerful enough to 1hk some players with white gear, where a recurve will require 2 shots
or in other cases you'll need 3 recurve body shots to kill somebody that would die to 2 longbow body shots
arrow curvature is also different, long hallway shots are easier/more accurate with longbow

When i use a crossbow i expect the arrow to go real fast and to almost never fall off
It makes sense for the small crossbow otherwise it would be kinda op using the perk, but the large one definitely needs a buff to its travel time and falloff

there is content in tarkov which is time gated + NEW content that no one knows how to do yet, so exploration and excitement is there

if you're a tryhard streamer you could do everything in a month or more*
for a regular player, 4+ months or maybe not at all
a lot of stuff "to finish" is hard to do
they got 60 levels, 8 traders with quest chains
Tarkov is technically a 7 year old game by now so DnD can't compete in terms of how much content there is

the only current issue is the lack of content, but like you said, we need the NPCs ready for quests, services. The repair, weight system and more to come... but just those 4 would turn the next playtest into something REALLY different from the previous two
i feel before they finish up the npc stuf they probably want to get the class playable before anything and you also gotta remember theres a whole nother level that we havent seen thats ready they just havent made it playable for playtests
yep that's the point, u have the map ready but i don't feel 'the vibe' with a new class, but those 4 systems i said, yeah, that would be a game changing cuz we would spent days grinding for those things while with a new class u can learn in one day and also get lvl 20...
for me, those 4 systems come first
then we could MAYBE have the Bard, or maybe in the next playtest with more content

Skill tree is what I want to see be added. Have that entire character level up system basically that we still didn't have this playtest but give us more customization maybe in builds
i feel like it will be up for next play test because the framework for it looked mostly finished this last play test
Being able to actually specialize in what you want to do will feel more rewarding for players than the weak passives we currently have

i found running zap was nice since it would fully regen with one meditate

Had the best just outright dps in pve but you had to stand still (magic missile) or rely on a team for pve

Definitely not terrible but Mage could use with the new class level up character system
Maybe get more spell slots, bit more hp (so you don't kneel over in a heartbeat) ect so much there would benfit mage
But also think that low hp suited Mage considering its ability to kill groups of players very fast (3 hit lightning taking out squishies in 1-2 hits) (fireball hitting a team for 1/3rd there hp)
yea but i also found that you can almost always dodge firebal by jumping soo as the wizard sometimes you had to go for direct hit
Also not to mention the clipping issues on mage
Either the spells or walls had larger hitboxes than it would seem causing fireball to hit walls if your trying to edge throw
yea that was rough. one thing my buddy and i did was ranger trap and when all three try to rush through doorway you blast with the lightning strike spell wiped a couple squads this way

I was thinking for warlock - high level spells - consume 3 soul hearts to create a phylactery at an alter. Or consume 3 soul hearts to heal yourself and replenish spell charges… fun stuff

I feel like that works with the theme of warlock. Only a few spells of high power and no real way to get them back until after a fight. Pact weapons for AI.

I feel like we'd get to choose. If they are random, all need to be of equal difficulty, or people will just chase certain maps anyways.

problem with higher team count is designing around the extreme edge cases (handling the maximum potential of build / gear combinatinos -- more to watch out for)
2 chain lightnings is enough to kill most players. Adding more doesnt help them

Solo queue is extremely unlikely. Theyll only add it if no other method works for them, as a last resort.

maps being random is important, for the sense of risk. If you can "farm" the easy map, nobody will go to the hard one. Choosing to spawn with your strong loadout shouldnt be a guaranteed pub stomp :p

Random is not important. People can farm what they want. Maybe harder maps are the only chance for best gear.

Maps dont need to be the same difficulty, and shouldnt be. New players can take the easy map. Experienced can take the hard map. Maybe theres a map that gives more spell scrolls. People will farm that for supplies for the even harder maps, ect. Its jot that hard to give a reason for players to vary their options.
Making it random means that maps need to be equally rewarding, and always give you a chance. Thats extremely boring.
controlled RNG (pure dice rolling) + discrete decision tree (aka chess) balancing is key. if you do it right, will appeal to the largest audience (in board game terms, this would have been soemthing like Settlers of Cattan, instead of chess)
and pure chance being a coin flip / dice games

So my suggestion is that you shouldnt be able to select crypt 1, you should be randomized crypt 1-4, and same when you drop into inferno.

Each map has 3 levels, which increase in difficulty. High roller is an experiment right now, and i wouldnt expect it to be like this in the main game.
So a new map would also have levels that increase in difficulty.
High roller is more likely to be its own map, with a high loot ceiling and high risk.

The floor you started on is called b2, or floor 2. Inferno being b3. The new floor will he b1, the starting floor.

Its likely that layouts will be randomly selected. So if ypu choose this dungeon, it will be slightly different each time, with a limit of variations.
similarly, people will find the easiest boss and farm it, randomizing will force people to engage with all content

They don’t want the game to be randomly generated, they want map memorization to be part of the skill cap.
it would be easily solved by just making everything drop everything, and making it random wether you run into the "easy" centaur, or the hard dragon

the balancing point might be memorizing map tiles (or sets) as opposed to an entire static map

Honestly I’m just not a big fan of the ring pushing people together, doesn’t feel like it fits the best in the game. I’d rather have some op boss that acts as a stage clearer with the possibility to slay it for op loot before moving into the more difficult layers

You can bring people together in ways other than a ring. Like high priority loot spots.

depends how loot drops will work, the game is set up as a "zone in, pick up loot, escape" which doesn't leave that much room for targeting stuff. Hence most stuff seems to be based on a flat % chance equally across the board atm. And with that being the case, having easy bosses targetable, would make nobody engage the harder bosses, unless ofcourse you lock specific drops behind the "harder" bosses, with the unbalance that causes for the classes that wants said items =p
Instead, randomizing loot and layouts, the easy boss wouldn't be targetable, but a nice "oh yes" moment for the player when it shows up.
too small of a map and it's more of a coliseum, which can be boring in its own way in that it's just PvP and barely any PvE mixed in
The stage boss would add more engagements without making stuff feel so closed off. You know it’s coming towards you so you run away and collide with another party, or groups fight over who gets to kill it, when it’s killed everyone knows and rushes to take out the group and secure the op loot for themselves

Theres plenty of room right now for targetted looting. Always managed to get to certain rooms if i wanted gear in the playtest, if jt was there at all, like the library.

Can anyone confirm that you can get hit through your shield if you are not blocking with it? like a ranger shoots your shield in your hand when you are not blocking and it hits through?

Monsters have collision advantage, if you hit a shield of skeleton when he isn't blocking it will block your attack, but it doesn't work for players
They should add back the normal lobby leader boards so you can see how you’re doing compared to high roller only leader boards

Stupid Question i want to get off my chest when the topic of furry was involved: 1) Considering we got reskins of player characters being skeletons, will we get ones where classes get re-skinned as beastfolks? 2) On the topic of customization, will we be able our characters' skin colors and change out his clothing? Is it just me or do spells not cast well or smoothly when it was in play test
deff just you, but more knowledge made you cast faster.
- I had times where I had the bar fill up/animation fully wound up and it would have me do the cancel animation instead of actually casting
- The buffs/heal spells are hitscan dispite the animation looking like a projectile. Not sure if electric storm or whatever is hitscan or projectile. Fireball, Magic Missle, and the other attacks were projectiles.
The hitscan would not go off on release of M2, but at the endish of the casting animation after release of M2

Does anyone know how the matcmaking works when you descend maps/levels? Does the game try to link you up with players from other games that are also descending to repopulate the game or does it just keep you with the same player base the whole time?

Same player base as of right now, currently the devs want to implement a system as you mentioned, when going down they want to put players from different servers into the next floor as you’re traversing down levels

Yep! I just got into the industry a year ago and I'm trying to start my own project. Im really inspired by the visual fidelity of Dark and Darker and I'm trying to determine which pipeline to go with in Unity or if there's even a point to keep going with unity since Unreal seems to be way ahead at this point. Lol going to be a tough swap to c++ if I decide to go the unreal route

There’s certainly more accessible content and classes for unreal.
Unity tutorials are usually outdated, a few iterations behind.
Plus you get things like megascans, metahuman, live link.

I've only played a handful of D&D games and none of them included a bard. Can the bard be effective in combat or will they be mostly relegated to buff/debuff support?

The thing is wizards dont have healing ability
and healing items cost money in this game so having infinite heals is bad for the game in my opinion
how would u feel about a passive to allowing teammates near the cleric to have a slow heal over time?
like 1-3ish over a sec or every other sec?
and reduce some of the combat healing ability of cleric?
that would make cleric and his team immortal in "fog"
why would you want to introduce free healing, if you lose hp to monsters that means you are playing bad, if you lose hp while killing players you will most likely loot heals from them
maybe dmg inactives the passive for a cooldown?

they always just sit with a spell prepped in hand waiting for someone to take dmg. I feel the fighting side of clerics are being overshadowed?
And then you want to add out of combat ability
its not a fully fleshed idea
maybe the ring dm,g turns it off not just normal dmg?
i just never get to see clerics fight without it being a last resort even though they get access to pretty decent armour
I've seen solo clerics play drunk 2h build
but usually when I duo with my cleric friend Its me on fighter and he is buffing and healing mostly yeah. But to make them fight more they should take somethin away from heal/buff because the class would be too overpowered I feel.
clerics last test had -1all stats compared to all the other classes, i wouldnt be surprised to see battle clerics next test
paladin would be sick
So just have to wait at this point. I personally think cleric is fine and until there are more classes if it doesn't fit your playstyle then play something else. Maybe if there will be no class like paladin then they will give more combat ability to cleric. Will see

this is inaccurate info. i personally witnessed 73k ingame via the ingame menu. this is why i asked for the devs data, which they said they would try to find due to steamdb not being configured properly yet. thus i am asking again.

these numbers seem useful for advertising, and for convincing others to try it. surely they wrote them down somewhere, or can share them again.
I thought they said 100,000 unique players. Steam stated something like 68,000 concurrent players
I think whats happening here is that since the steamdb hasnt been configured yet, it was probably just showing how many were ingame, due to likely different game servers than lobby servers (matchmaking servers), and thus that likely means it was about 69k ingame and 15-20k in lobbies. once it is configured to add them together, it will be more accurate.

Are the current assets used for monsters the ones we should expect to see permanently, or will they be edited further?
How likely would it be for enemies to have some level of graphical randomization to sorta mix it up a bit? For example, zombies getting randomized patterns of pustules on them, or skeletons with broken or cracked bones.
Are there any plans to add some form of randomization to dungeons? For example, graffiti on walls or floors, tapestries or art(Lootable or otherwise), torches having a chance to spawn turned off.

A lot of things will be different upon full release, they might be more fleshed out.
The current monster pool is pretty small compared to the full picture.
Right now we are just setting up the basis, I am not sure about randomization, but definitely more variety.
As for the dungeons, this isn't decided yet so I have no answer.
I heard there was a mention of in game guilds/companies, was this confirmed? It's probably a decently big undertaking, but having reward tracks for Guilds would be awesome. Things like cosmetic options (maybe a tabard or something that can be customized, unlock more options as the guild levels), a Guild hall that can be used for lobbies that shows your Guild's crest client-side, maybe even furniture that can be customized by leaders/officers. There's a lot of potential for extra details and immersive additions, is the team interested in adding these kinds of things in the distant future?
Also I think guild leaderboards would be great. If there's ever an arena added it would also be a great place for guild v guild content.

its planned during next fest on steam which runs from the 6th of feb to the 13th of feb but i'd wait until they officially announce the dates for it.
Solo queue is being asked for almost daily now. For many players having to take on 3 people at once just to be able to play the game instead of at least being able to play a slightly unbalanced solo mode is a deal breaker.
Could we see a solo queue test in the next playtests?
@timber mist I think I read somewhere that all classes from D&D 3e will be in the game. Is that true, and how are the devs deciding which other classes to put in the game? I haven't played Dungeons and Dragons, so I'm wondering if the devs are trying to keep the classes in Dark and Darker true to Dungeons and Dragons.

It would be great to have them all, but that cannot be promised and is far off if it is possible.
The theme of the classes will remain as true as we can, but we also want to make our own unique variations.
So they will only remain true to some extent, but after all this is Dark and Darker not Dungeons and Dragons 😉.
The exact dates of the next playtest aren't announced but they will fall within the Steam Next Fest!

it can't be at 60$ logically because as they stated it will go in early access in Q2, and therefore the price will be around like other early access games on steam. It might increase the price only after early access stage when it will be fully released in Q4.
as my personal guess and opinion i think it will be in early access as 24$ or perhaps 29$
and once fully released in Q4 it will be 35$ or 40$
maintaining an accessible and competitive price is way better because it could reach more players

what they could also is some innocent supporter pack like they did in "ready or not" or "deep rock galactic"

and everyone could be supporter at anytime by buying such supporter pack

The profanity filter in this game was crazy. Both me and my friend also couldn't use our nicknames. I wanted to name my character Spazz after Spazz Maticus from Heroes: Might & Magic 4 and my friend wanted to name his character Ishi (the guy from Bulletstorm). Both nicknames were not acceptable for some reason.
