How do rate limits work?
If your rate limit is 60 requests per minute and 150k davinci tokens per minute, you’ll be limited either by reaching the requests/min cap or running out of tokens—whichever happens first. For example, if your max requests/min is 60, you should be able to send 1 request per second. If you send 1 request every 800ms, once you hit your rate limit, you’d only need to make your program sleep 200ms in order to send one more request otherwise subsequent requests would fail. With the default of 3,000 requests/min, customers can effectively send 1 request every 20ms, or every .02 seconds.

What happens if I hit a rate limit error?
Rate limit errors look like this:

It's because of the exploits I guess but they downgraded it very bad about a week ago indeed but some people don't seem to notice because most people do not use it to code.

when creating software with ChatGPT, best practice is to split the code into functions and classes and work on each function in it's own chat, that way you do not break the context limits, then you can combine the code into a full program

Then personally I run the code back through to check for faults as it will notice its own faults

for more complex tasks, and problems that you have difficulty with, create pseudo code as a first pass and the use that code in a second pass to generate the language of your choice, that way you allow the AI twice the "thinking time", or in this, case layer access
