Nope. It used my cellphone number when I created that account. When I was creating the account it sent a verification code to my cellphone ("Your OpenAI API verification code is"..., so I know it has that. It was only when I tried to upgrade to plus that it tried to use the landline.

I have no idea where it got the landline because I never use it for any online stuff. Yes, that worked! But by doing that I've now legitimated its theory that that's a working phone number. It's just a phone number that was assigned to me as a landline because verizon offered me a lower price if I get a "landline" along with my FIOS. I'll contact Stripe on Monday.

i only get that error if my vpn is switched on, i use PIA if it makes a difference but you're best off just switching it off entirely - if you really need a VPN to breakout in a location that's supported by openai, you could always just setup an SSH tunnel to a remote computer somewhere - i've not tested this but there's no reason to suggest it wouldn't work

Something is really wrong with ChatGPT right now (plus plan, using the gpt-4 engine in the UI). I've been having it write code all day and it has been fine up till about 90 minutes ago (around 8pm pacific). Now it is giving me really screwy code changes that have lots of side effects. One of the crazier things it did: I asked it to triple the width of some text fields and rather than modify the CSS in an appropriate way, it made them 300% with width of the browser with this change:

but you can use stable diffusion to generate images.
there's a lot of online tools for that, or if you have an NVIDIA GPU you can do it on your own machine. it doesn't work well on other GPUs though.
