If you're getting bored of vanilla gamma and it's progression, it can offer you a fresh and different experience. I'd say it is somewhat more challanging than vanilla gamma since there are far more stalkers (and therefore enemies) in the game while mutants are more rare

I ran into something similar when I've done this quest. I think it's because one of the Monoliths guys is still somewhere on the map and you have to kill the whole squad to progress the mission
