it's more that there's a script that kicks in if you play as UNISG, after the game starts. for the faction relation display, the game is still reading the default faction relation configs before that script runs

Yeah most dungeons don't have proper nav meshing, which means companions won't follow you. You can try teleporting them to your location repeatedly. but usually, just keep your companions outside the dungeon when you go in

Since loners are neutral because of clearing BS as a renegade it covers that point you just made, but like I said if it still breaks at the hideout docs then I’m throwing in the towel

At that point I’ll truly consider renegade main quest impossible

Pretty sure it checks for your faction for the quest after docs (to talk to either barkeep or aslan) and since renegade isn’t on the list of story factions it just breaks

i don't know how dynamic relationships work exactly but i believe you can't fully influence them. as in your faction may still go to war with some other faction even if your personal relations are high

To recruit random stalkers as companions:

1. Talk to the leader of the squad.
2. The size of the squad must be within your limit (by default you can't have more than one companion at the time).
3. Your rank value must be at least 1.5 times higher than that of the squad leader.
4. Squad leader must consider you friendly (depends on your rank, reputation, faction relations and more).

Requirements 3 and 4 don't apply to paid companions, but they are rarer overall and can only be found among Loners, Bandits, Mercenaries and Freedom.
If you wish to be able to recruit more stalkers, in-game, open Mod Configuration Menu > Custom Companion Squad Size, and drag the sliders found within to the right.
