Personally I would probably remove reshade at that point and try to get some more fps, but there's def some lightweight reshades that shouldn't really affect your fps much

MXAO and GloomAO were serving me pretty well until I started playing with RTGI. I like trying to match what I'm doing in all of them just to see their differences. You can definitely get good results with either it just depends on what you're trying to achieve and how many frames you want to lose doing it lol

Hot damn lmao, yeah I never noticed it being that extreme. I don't use adaptive tonemapper in my normal preset. I can see ab messing around with that edit and tuning the tonemapper down a bit, or you can if you want I think it would be fairly easy to do. Or you can just have it off. Here's my regular preset if you wanna mess with that too, though it's a lot more vibrant than Frost's edit and I think it works better in autumn settings.

Here's this too. My preset that includes some edits from both Frost and CS Eden. Focuses very much on making the zone more vibrant and colorful so if that's not your thing I dunno if you'd like it.

wow, you guys who enjoy TAA should check out the current version of vort's pack. superb implementation of TAA imo, given the limitations of this post process method. very performant, too. does still have that very subtle warp effect, but i would say is less noticeable than the other implementations of motion estimation i've tried so far

I did the database, but I realised I would need to complement it with Dux's models, at least some of them, so basically I'm making the visual database of his 3500+ models, once its done, then it's a long sorting job but that I hope will be worth it

I mean that's kinda what fakehdr does, it accentuates the contrast and makes darks darker and brights brighter. You have to play with the settings in it to get a more subtle effect

@flint vigil Basically what reshade does is try it hooks onto the game, checks the game rendering, tries to find or generate itself stuff like the depth texture or the color buffer. Using those you enable effects, shaders really ontop of one another to get the desired look

But the balance is hard. It almost feels like there is no best of both worlds, and Im this close to making my own presets for night and day πŸ˜…

So those ssfx_lut settings change from zone to zone. One area will be 1,4,0,0 the next will be like 1,9,0,0, and another might be 1,32,0,0 or something like that. This is by design since it lets Hippo assign a different lut to each area to give it a unique "feel". Personally I like to find a location where I'm familiar with its lut/lighting/"feel" and tweak the reshade with the zone's default lut, then once I'm happy with the settings I change the lut around to see what different ones look like in that same zone. Even though by default those different luts won't be active in that zone unless you manually change them, it makes it easier to see how the reshade looks with all the luts without having to load to another zone.

You could certainly optimize a reshade to work with one single ssfx_lut setting and use only that for every zone in the game you would just have to reload the lut every time you loaded a new zone. I'm too lazy for that and it also kinda dilutes the work of other modders so I'd rather just let the default lut load in and make minor tweaks in reshade until I find something that compliments them all.

If there was a way to script the reshade to adjust its settings for each default lut, weather, and day/night cycle things would get really interesting but I don't think there's a way to do that?

well the weather system has to stay generic enough that it can apply to every zone, otherwise Hippo would have to create individual weathers for every single zone and not only would that be huge bloat for the game but he would probably want to unalive himself with that much work.

Reshade got removed with the christmas update. You have to untick the delete reshade dlls option when updating to keep it.

FYI for anyone who has a similar issue as me, who used the Atmos shader param preset and its Reshade preset, where everything just kinda gets too dark:
I find that activating the eye adaptation works great in boosting days, and keeping nights dark. Needs some fiddling with the settings according to your screen brithtness but it did wonders for me. (wish I could showcase it better but I keep having cloudy weather. I swear sunny weather is really warm and bright...

Ok, turn on DRME and TFAA in the reshade menu and that should be fixed. Another way is to turn down the texture MIP bias which makes the textures that are further away lower quality and prevents some of the flickering by just having less small holes in the trees i would reccomend using DRME+TFAA though because it just looks way better

When making a lut, is it best to turn off all ambient occlusion and global illumination? Like should I only be using Regrade and any other color effects like HDR? And what about the luts already baked in to gamma/atmos through the ssfx_lut command should I disable those too?

Also I'm wondering if the in game luts can be tied to weathers and time of day? I'm really happy with how my Regrade and other shaders look in daytime on like clear_1/2 and partly_1/2 but night time and some of the darker weathers look too dark, and turning everything off gets me visible nights that actually reflect the light of the moon cycles

Yeah. I ended up turning it off in the end. I feel like it's making it too bright, and with your default settings, you can see the outline of these glowing effects around edges of windows, looking out.

You should be getting your basic light settings locked in first before diving into reshade. If you don't, you'll be overcorrecting the gamma and brightness and doing a lot of unnecessary post processing in reshade which usually leads to a washed out image or way too splotchy of contrast

A lot of people like a gamma of .9, saturation of 1.1 or 1.2, and brightness somewhere between .9 and 1.1

Game mode on most TV's is usually very poor for color accuracy. Those modes usually boost backlight intensity as a way to reduce response times but it's almost always a big hit to color accuracy

I mean that's usually the price you pay with using a TV for PC games. Unless you have a top of the line OLED response times and refresh rates on TV's are always going to be worse than dedicated PC monitors.

TV's are almost exclusively designed with non-gaming video content in mind, and gaming as an afterthought. Because of the source video content being far less demanding due to 24/48 frame filming practices TV's get away with way worse response times and embellished refresh rates that very quickly drop in quality when you have source content actually performing at real time speeds.

#

The biggest offenders are 4k/8k displays that tout super high refresh rates/response times which get measured at lower resolutions and numbers cherry picked from the game/high performance modes that intentionally kill white/black contrast and color accuracy to mask naturally poor response time. It's actually a super predatory market and display vendors are always coming up with new jargon to try to fool people who don't have the time or ability to A/B test them or actually flesh out their perfomance.

It happens with PC monitors too but in a slightly lesser degree if only because the demand for speed and color accuracy is much higher due to professional needs for production work

1 looks better, you can see more detail in the sky and it's bright enough without making things washed out. If you want the "brighter" look of the sun that 1.1 gives, try adding some subtle bloom with a shader like Solaris. You can also see 1.1 brightness exaggerates the banding from light sources more and affects the color blending of the clouds making them look a little more splotchy.

Also I've never been able to figure out the ghost-aura around hands and guns. I always thought it was DOF but I've killed all sources of it and the aura still remains. Adding some short-length foreground DOF helps a little to mask it but it doesn't go away completely and sometimes costs you some fidelity of close up objects (or even your hands/gun). I think it's just an X-Ray thing in how it renders first-person hand/gun-models separately from the actual third-person world model of your character.
