For Freeplay is Gamma currently better , Stalker2 is just heavily focused on Story, you play it once then stop

I'll probably come back to S2 once the SDK finally gets released (beta or not, not really sure what GSC means with that vague bullet point) and modders have more control over what can get implemented into the game.

imo, stalker 2 needs to improve on these things:
- bringing the map to life by adding a radio system like in the og trilogy. GAMMA imo shows it: you dont need to have a thousand mutants or npcs running around everywhere, you need them scattered in a credible way mutants and nps would roam the zone, e.g. Wards patrol in groups while loners and bandits are running alone
- better technical performance, it just needs to run better
- adding interesting gameplay mechanics that havent been in the OGs, like a proper eat and drink system

It's legit just. Performance optimization + mutant loot + AI + Night Vision at this point & it'd be playable.
It's been 5 months, but the most noticeable change I notice is enemies don't spawn behind my ass. Probably some quest progression bugs were fixed also
Its not just that. Players who finished complain a lot of missing content especially late game. That will probably added with the DLCs
I never got there because the economy balance + performance tanked in later areas.

When I did a fight late game & returned with like 50 guns in my inventory, sold them & couldn't repair my armor in Rorstok where my FPS was like 20. I just deleted.

I honestly don't think UE5.1 will ever be able to track 1000 npcs living their lives. The best we can hope for is a convincing spawn system. Maybe it even tracks offline within a bubble around the player. But I just don't see it being able to do the entire zone.
I think tracking all of it is unnecessary personally. If you run from Cordon to Garbage, I at least don't expect Cordon NPC's to be living their life.

Yeah because having abundant loots, weapons that use the same caliber has different penetration values even though AP ammos exists, overly bulletspongy enemies, unbalanced artifact detectors, subpar AI with very short rendering range that makes sniping impossible and makes the game feel absolutely dead and empty and uninteresting because of the lack of actual radiant AI system, exaggarated bullet drops, and what now is SO "IMMERSIVE"

In Garbage? ||I always make the decision to just go in guns blazing and clear the place out because 99% of bandits in Sdalger 2 are just worthless assholes lol; though it's also funny because Ward, at least every time I've done it, gets glitched and doesn't even move in to start helping me until there's only like 1-2 bandits left in the place. Even then, once Ward takes over the depot as a base/outpost, if I leave and come back they all disappear lmao so like what's even the point of taking it as a position?||

Yah as it is now I think it's meant to set up a strong position for the A L I F E to go and start doing their thing. It never happens because a life right now it's just out there to pick fights and nothing else, and doesn't really need to move into defensible positions and shit.
a-life, as it stands right now in Sdalger 2, is just "spawn in and fight anything that moves - 20-30 meters away from the player in X min intervals" simulator.
which happens way too often too, feels like GAMMA's army warehouse at moments

Then the survivors just wander off and despawn once they're out of the player's fov 
(I've been told that it's fine if there's a 3v3 going on every 4 minutes in AW because it's supposed to be a warzone duh)

so EVERY SINGLE mod filtered by most endorsed atm will revert your files to 1.0
yea I'd usually play with a longer days mod + better climbing/parkour mod + increased carry weight (which usually comes with lower repair costs iirc and more stamina)

There are def some improvements needed on GSCs side. It just comes down to how much jank you can deal with. The overhaul mods make the majority of the systems feel better but they can only do so much for now.

Very slightly improved from vanilla? But not very noticeable. They tend to fix some things but than other things they fix revert to their broken state again. It's been very hit or miss.
If you were not happy with the game then... I don't think enough has improved to change your mind.
My biggest gripes other than quests breaking was that A-life was literally nonexistent on release
and the mutants/STALKERs were absurdly tanky
There are still quests that break, Still a poor implementation of a spawn system, and enemies still have their arcadey health pools. The last one I do not expect to change since all the GSC games follow this trend.
Going to have to look at mods to change the enemies.
Super basic mods can fix the health pools but the rest are just fundamental parts of the game that needed a lot of work

I hope it's like Cyberpunk 2077: a dumpster fire release, and a great game after 2-3 years of work

They probably did try it. The issue is the amount of storage required for all the simulation tracking. UE5.1 does not have such a system. So it needs to be made from scratch.
People say the newer versions of UE5 could help but I don't know how much of a pain it'd be to update the game

I think the problem is sourcecode accessibility. I don't see GSC just letting everyone in.
I've lost count how many times I've read "mods will fix it" the past few months
People have unrealistic expectations to be honest. They expect modders to be able to fix everything.
Considered how good the game is with current mods, even if SDK is basic, much can be done
I'm honestly surprised so much is possible now.
I was not expecting half of these mods before an SDK.
They can make a crazy amount of stuff happen but like you said, they needed engine code itself many years ago

Yeah but Anomaly/Gamma is not the standard. It's extremely rare for a company to hand over full access to an engine and let people do whatever.
