Guessing your talking about using the pro stick/right stick. Practice flicking the stick to trigger moves. Holding it will do do the move then transition into a shot. Takes some getting used to

One of the weird ways I practice this on next gen is with the skateboard. If you hold left trigger it does multiple tricks depending on the inputs in 4 directions. It's a way to practice triggering the dunk meter timing too by flicking from one direction to the other.

The WNBA rosters aren't scaled to be the same as the nba roster iirc. I believe it was so they have their own 90+ ovr best players without having them directly comparable to nba rosters. Essentially the WNBA players are only compared to themsleves as far as ratings/grades go.

i agree. 2k literally doesn’t even teach you the CONTROLS. when i started playing in 22 i dead had to just GUESS and press buttons that felt right. if it was wrong? my teammate grade would get docked crazily. they’re just riding off the fact that it’s a popular game and most of its players have played an earlier 2K.

also, builds are so oddly specific in 2K that i often had to search up good builds for ___ and change it a little to make it work.

you’re not alone in the trash first build though. my first build was too short and small so he couldn’t play strong defense, while my second build was a little too slow for my liking

I think it stopped starting you in 2kU some years ago. They start you in a game between 2 'popular' teams while it loads.

That's why I was telling new people to start with 2kU. Just 2 or 3 years out of the game is enough small changes to relearn some of the controls

Well that feature is for being able to play something while the game is still downloading. Some games don't have it and a few have it start working at like 60 to 75% complete. Usually I just wait since it's not the full game you're playing.

They used to have kind of pre-made builds in the 2k19 or 2k20 I think. You would press Y/Triangle and it had a few different layouts for builds to pick from. Closest thing to that now are probably the replicas. They aren't considered 'meta' or good for online play for most of them though.

Perimeter defense is directly tied to your lateral quickness. It's one of the stats we don't get to set/upgrade specifically. Similar to post hook and fade, and hands

It's not really explained in the game from what I remember. It's even more important to have it when playing online since 'catfish' builds will throw you off when trying to defend your matchup

Builds that can do everything means you have to be prepared to defend everything too. Consequence of the increased freedom of current build system (and the build names not being as descriptive to match sometimes).

good for you. unfortunately i’m on switch and my 2k game has a bad habit of pulling random nonsense on me and i am testing a completely new play style. new position, big height difference, new stats, etc. so i’d rather go on semi pro to adjust. like i said before, little to no consequences. if i actually wanted to play at a risk i wouldn’t be on semi. my goal is just to play actual 2k matches but easier so i’m not fussing about teammate grade or messing up everything in a game and restarting, but just practicing and adjusting my craft.

Nah I was just saying in all reality the company doesn’t care about the game nor fixing it if it’s not an Xbox or PlayStation problem because they’re who makes the most money. 1st day on pc every year the game is hacked to hell and have 100 overalls and such. like if a ball goes out of bounds on the left side of the court and your opponent inbounds from there, i recommend just letting them and not trying to steal the second they turn around

where 2k freezes the meter then goes back to normal, but bc the meter froze your timing was off and you get marked late if you still held it

I think in NBA 2K24, a great way to balance out gameplay, is to make animations at the highest ratings, be the best in that category. For example, the MJ dribble style, is in most peoples opinions, the best dribble style. This animation is unlocked at 75 Speed With Ball, which leads most players to have little, to no incentive to upgrade past 75. This in turn also makes builds more "OverPowered" due to the fact that you can now spend those attribute points somewhere else.

I feel like that requires a different perspective on making the animations and doing seasonal releases. It kind of assumes the devs know that the community will want certain animations before we have access. Alternatively it could be a more 'live service' approach and actively change stat requirements with season updates. Like how other games do balance adjustments. If they don't remove the animations post season from builds people would still have them though. I also don't see forcibly changing people's characters being well recieved

From my understanding the more you increase the difficulty the less lenient the game is. Each increase makes it harder to shoot and makes the opposing team more effective. It also makes your teammates less effective and consistent.

Might help to try different shot meters too. Some of them semm kind of stylized and don't show where to release as good as others. I don't use the meter but that's essentially what I've heard from people I play with who do. Could come down to preference too

You probably have to check difference in stats. If a player has Post Scoring or Rebounding Takeover and it's active they can get an animation where they throw elbows to force people nearby to take a step before they recover. Rebounding Take and possibly high levels of Boxout can trigger a shove that moves people about 2 steps before they recover. Neither of these would be called a foul. Some other stuff like that happens with strength differences but I can't name them off the top of my head.

It's probably little things. Like the fact that there's 3 ways to jump to contest shots. Usually seems like if you do the swat it's more likely to foul.

I can try to explain the difficulty less like real life and more like well a game (trying to look like some of real life). Assume the game is balanced to run the best around All-Star and Superstar (which iirc it is). At the lowest difficulty, Rookie, the AI players are set to be passive and react slowly. On a sliding scale it'd be like their sliders to help them are at 10% and yours are at like 90%. By the time you get to Superstar it's basically flipped. Not exactly but closer to 90 for them and 10 for you. Then Hall of Fame does that plus more to be less in your favor.

If I'm remembering this right there's 4 contests. There's hands up (up on RS), jump (Y/Triangle), vertial contest(Y/Triangle with LS away from opponent, and swat (Y/Triangle + RT/R2). It's been this way for a few years now

Honestly I think there's a few people who remember 2kU specifically because it was one of things included when we used to get Prelude/Demo. It was the way to practice controls before the game released. At least once they talked about some odd dribble moves and they were fixed before release

It's probably more realistic if you play longer games. At 12 minute quarters theoretically you can be cold for a quarter then come back later in the game. Can't really have that happen at 5 and 6 minutes. Then we had the problem of the 'time warp' when we weren't in the game. It'd be like it simmed 12 mintues when you were on the bench so the lead would get big, but it's not that bad anymore.

Only reason I don't care about a demo is that demos don't get updated. Anybody playing the demo after a season or two is going to be playing something different then what's in the game.

Usually the prelude let you play an Exhibition and/or little bit of the myCareer Story. That was nice but 2k only wanted you to play it once. So we got a nice cycle of 'how to play the demo more than once' before the game came out.

The defensive player takes a longer time to recover. I feel like that plays into Offensive Rebound being value more online too. It usually works better to have one person contest and another boxout to use Rebound Chaser to get the board than contest and grab or tip it out.

Applies for Nba games too because of the reasoning and that Offensive Rebounds costs less to upgrade then Defensive Rebound. Any adjustment to cost hits everybodys builds in the mode

If every player, AI or Human, has a faster recovery animation when trying to score vs the defender trying to contest they will always react slower than the offensive player.

That's not AI. Like I said it makes it more valuable to upgrade offensive rebound before defensive since we have no way to react faster period. As a result having a better offensive rebound to beat the AI to our own misses is easier than trying to defend and rebound. Your just more likely to get the 2nd chance point with how it seems to work right now, no matter the mode

I also wonder if it has to do with checking for boxing out or having to turn around. Sometimes it seems more important to have your playing facing the ball then before. Doesn't feel that way when I'm throwing turnovers but that could just be a strong self bias.

Which I keep thinking that's Offensive or Defensive IQ because years ago this guy did videos/articles about breaking Madden and Nba2k. In the 2k one he did draft classes with really low IQ/Ovr players (actually there might be a few myleague videos around this too). After like a decade of these players and retirements the ball would constantly roll out of bounds because nobody had the awareness to pickup the ball and miss rebounds.

Personally I think defense is getting your opponent to take more difficult shots. Not just contested attempts but players shooting out of their comfort zones. Only leaving an inside big open around 3 if someone else is hot and shading a fast PG to go left when they prefer to run right are good defense. Even if there's no block or steal they have to work for good shots and possibly tire out some of the team.

I prefer just cutting off people's drives and moderate contest on their shots. It's what I enjoy about my 6'7 PF. It's fun when I can predict a 6'9 inside outs drives 2 or 3 times and cut them off then contest a 6'11 with low inside shot at the rim in the same game. A lot of the popular builds 1 to 4 seem to skip strength so they don't expect to stop in place when I predict them

The thing some people miss is hands matching ball handle so it's actually good to have a solid ball handle in a catch and shoot big or stretch 4

Something you might run into with this are the strength and stamina. IIRC brickwall drains stamina and if bigs are bumping into you with it'll drain bit faster. If your good standing in the dunkers spot and using post to get a good opening for layups and dunks it should be good. Have to be careful where you stand to catch passes too with lower ball handle. Some of bobbled catches will make you step out of bounds

Variable shot timing has been toned down for 2K24, also we changed the Shot Timing Impact shooting attribute to Shot Timing Stability. Higher Stability grades will further dampen the effects of fatigue/defense on your shot speed.

For both the layup and dunk meters, if you have a pretty open lane, the green window is MUCH bigger in 2K24. But it shrinks fast the heavier the traffic. And again, on HOF and competitive online you have to green dunks to make them.

Your opponents and teammates won't see your shot meter online in NBA 2K24. But my advice is to turn off the shot meter as soon as you learn your timing. Shot Meter Off increases your green window size by 20%

We spent a lot of time on this and it's way better. If you fake and get the defender to bite, you can draw a foul and get and-1's way more reliably. Also if blockers jump wildly for no reason, they'll land on ball handlers and get called for fouls.

Generally, all advanced shot types (spins, stepbacks) got a buff in the mid-range. And all advanced layups (euros, floaters, reverses, hops, spins, quick scoops) got a buff too. Try to mix up your arsenal of scoring moves and you'll be rewarded.

The contest system changed a lot. The main highlights: greater emphasis on body position instead of just hand location (big reason for the ghost contest complaints last year.) Heavier penalties for being crowded at the start of the shot, less for out of position late closeouts.

Yeah, lots of new controller settings this year. Separate toggles for Shots, layups, free throws, as well as control type (Pro Stick, Button). You can also re-position and re-size just about every onscreen element (shot meter, player indicator, Fatigue bar, etc.)

It's to your benefit to create a jumper with the highest grades you can. but you can still be successful with lower grade shots. Defensive immunity is one I'd particularly recommend paying attention to. It can have a stronger effect than most think.

The rating boosts you get with a Takeover selection just stacks on top of what you already have. If you have dog rebounding ratings, for example, selecting the Def/Reb Take will make you a little less of a bum on the boards, but you'll still kind of be a bum.

For those asking what rating you need to be consistent, depends on your skill and shot IQ. Some will be deadly with a 75 3PT, while others will go 1/10. Try out the build tester or 2KU with different NBA players on HOF to get an idea for what you need for your build.

Yes, the green window is pure and will be a guaranteed make if you hit it. Heavily contested shots may still look like full white misses but that's just an artifact of the art. There will always be a (possibly sub-pixel sized) green window on every shot attempt.

Answered in previous tweet, but yes, every shot that's not 100% smothered is greenable. Window size determined by a ton of factors: Defense, ratings, & badges being the primary drivers. But don't worry, contested shots are VERY hard to knock down on higher difficulties.

Try out different breakdown combos (there are 100 to choose from), sig double crosses are equippable now, standing snatchback has changed and is now tied to the sig stepback package, definitely learn how to use the blowout properly, branching generally way more responsive in 2K24

Team Take works the same as last year. everybody contributes to the meter and it auto-fires off when full. Actions that contribute to the meter were reworked though so it's tougher to get. When you get it, each player gets boosted in their primary specialty decided by a formula

Love how authentic jumpers are. If you love the NBA, you'll immediately notice. We also get animations from ProPLAY that we wouldn't think to capture in mocap. So there are some really unique shots, moves, and passes that change the gameplay for the better.

we're having some internal debate on how much losing adrenaline should penalize you on defense. concerns are the numbers below are too harsh. 5% then 10% for the first 2 bars were suggested. thoughts?

Steal and block attempts will consume adrenaline bars on defense. 1st bar gone = 20% block/steal rating nerf. 2 bars gone = 40% nerf. 3rd bar gone = 75% nerf.
