It could be issue of trying to kill in unoptimized locations of the map.

Well theres been improvements, once they figure out what they want with characters they're usually pretty good at balancing them, theres a few well balanced characters.

My expectations on launch was that in 6 months the game would be good, but I was off and now it'll be at least a year post launch. Maybe it will be trash still, but I think its slowly getting better.

What I will say is its totally unprecedented for such a bad platform fighter to live so long and have the chance to actually turn the game around without the entire playerbase leaving. I think they want to be more agressive with patches then previously and they've signaled as much, I figured this season they didnt patch characters bc they want to change mechanics and then mess with the balance more after, but that might all be wrong and it might just be a waste.

Marvin is balanced, Harley is balanced, Iron Giant has some kind of moron balance, so does Bugs, so does Jake, velma and possibly lebron. Finn is almost a balanced top tier, arya could be, Beetlejuice is almost there as well.

Moron balancing is that it either encourages disgusting playstyles but are balanced or they're 1 or 2 move changes from being balanced, or half their kits are garbage and the other half is too strong and it ends up in this gross balance ie Velma and Jake.

The trick is to set up both shields next to each other and kinda box your opponent in, activate your gem laser thingy, and then loop around to the opposite side your opponent is facing. When they turn around to attack you the gem laser will activate and they'll go bouncing like crazy. It's pretty funny
