Hello everyone! For those that don't know me, my name is Nick, and I have been a geek since the first time I took the VCR apart as a kid because a VHS tape unwound and got stuck. I've installed generators outside datacenters, pulled cables through office buildings, got my MCSE2k/CCNA, virtualized a public healthcare company with over 1000 VMs, and did it almost exclusively on NetApp storage. I found a love for blogging and content in the late 00's and have been making content ever since. Most recently, I've been building my DatacenterDude channel on YouTube and would love it if you would subscribe. For the past three years, I've worked in the Office of the CTO for our Cloud Portfolio, and it's been a hella-fun ride seeing it all come to life and continue to evolve. On a crazy, hair-brained idea, I put together the original concept for the NetApp discord in the summer of 2021, thinking no one would like it. When I showed it to some peers, they loved it and the rest is history. I'm so happy you're all here with us, and look forward to growing this community of NetApp enthusiasts here, on YouTube, and beyond!

👋🏻 Hi folks, just to introduce myself, my name is Ross and I am one of the mods here on the NetApp Community Discord. Spent most of my time at NetApp in the Customer Support side of things. I'm originally from the SolidFire world before NetApp and prior to that was in the service provider world. I have a passion for helping educate anyone who will listen about all the cool bells and whistles that you can leverage when it comes to our Digital Support capabilities. Check out Digital Support Insights playlist on netapp.tv if you're curious. Just starting to get involved in content creation! If you have any questions about Digital Advisor, Support, or NetApp, just say hello.

Hey Ya'll. I'm Mike, i'm at ATS/TAM/SE here at NetApp. In past lives i've been both an Enterprise Customer as well as PS and SE at a Partner. Addtional to my roles here at NetApp i'm also very active with the NLS (NetApp Learning Services) group in helping to develop certifications.

In my spare time I enjoy, cooking, BBQ, mixology, photography, Legos, travel and gaming (both analog and digital)

For those coming over from Reddit i'm also nom_the_ack over at /r/netapp.

As the nameplate says, I'm Drew-- Community Manager here at NetApp. 👋
My team's focus is on Digital Support experience (think KB, Community, and Support Site), but certainly isn't limited to those areas. If you see anything unexpected on our sites, @ me so we can take a look.

I joined NetApp in January 2020 after 10 years in enterprise networking support, network lab management, and community management. That came after spending four years in NC State's Computer Engineering program before changing my mind, and ultimately graduating with a B.S. in Meteorology ⛈️

Outside of all this, I love to travel and see new places. I also appreciate good games, good music, good food, and good beers. 🍻:

If you've got any questions, feedback, or ideas about the NetApp discord , share with us in the #╰・help-with-discord channel. Glad you're here!

Howdy! I'm one of NetApp's Support Account Managers - we have two roles - reactive, to ensure issues are resolved quickly, and proactive, providing regular reviews and advice to customers. SAMs are a value added service - have a chat to your account team for more info, it can either be included in renewals/pricing, or as a seperate purchase. I'm based in Perth Australia, but previously lived in Vancouver Canada. I'm into retrocomputing (Macintosh mostly), electronics and woodworking. Like @fading marsh I'm also on Reddit as /u/theducks

My name is Paul (obviously). I'm a Perf Technical Suppot Engineer in Wichita, KS. I'm generally active here and have been around NetApp for over 10 years now. My passions are becoming coding, reading, and hopefully guitar soon, and learning anything and everything (especially science and things about the body).

My name is Philipp, I work as a Senior Datacenter Engineer at Netcloud in Switzerland. I design and build primary storage & compute solutions and work with NetApp for more than 10 years. Currently my focus is a bit more on compute due to a very intense and deep relationship with Cisco‘s business units for UCS and Intersight. My focus in general is performance, which let me play with newer technologies like NVMeoF. I also optimise customer vSphere environments, getting into CPU vendor release notes etc. I’m doing a bit PowerShell and started with python recently. I like to give feedback to vendors because it looks like most vendors do not understand the needs of European and smaller customers. I like to have live sessions with PMs or engineering like we had during Insight. I also like the work of Nick and the team for this discord channel and the events happening here

In my spare time I enjoy cooking, playing video games, building models, traveling and photography.

Hey All, I'm a Principal Technologist for Cloud Insights cloudinsights, based in the Netherlands. I've been with NetApp since 2013 after joining while still a university student. Through most of my time with this company I've been focused on manageability and observability topics going back to the likes of Data Fabric Manager and OnCommand Balance, but have been working with Cloud Insights since before it was a thing. On my spare time I cook and bbq a lot, do a fair bit of gaming, and take the occasional day hike. I would have said I also homebrew but I've gotten way too lax about doing it with any consistency anymore - maybe I should take up cheesemaking instead?

Hi all, I'm a Senior Escalations Engineer for NetApp support. I've been working in the NetApp support center since 2005 (ONTAP 7 anyone?) and some days I feel like the support historian. I specialize in SnapCenter on Unix platforms, specifically with the Oracle plug-in and if that's not enough I also work the Astra Trident and Astra Control products. When I'm not working I'm either paramotoring or spending time with my family and dreaming of paramotoring.

Greetings NetApp Discord members. I am the Developer Relations Manager at Spot by NetApp. I handle outreach and advocacy enabling practitioners to use the Spot portfolio of products to their fullest potential to help run and deploy optimally. I joined last fall and have a background as an SRE, Cloud Architect, Digital Forensics and Incident Response. I love infrastructure as code and DevOps. When I am not working, you can find me tinkering on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma overland build, Scuba Diving (yes, even in Utah, where I am based, I still find places to dive), Camping, or attending college sports.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions about the Spot product line, or anything else DevOpsy or Cloud Operations related! I can't guarantee I know it all, but I will do whatever I can to help and track down the resources needed.

Hello there, I am Spencer Hamons, and I am an Executive Architect at NetApp. I work in Professional Services, and I am on the team that delivers our Service Design / Cloud Design Workshops. Basically, think of these as free consulting activities that we do with our customers. Some customers are looking to make their on-premises data centers be more "cloud-like" and to deliver services "the way the cloud does", and we help our customers accomplish that. Other customers are looking to embrace a hybrid multicloud strategy, and for those customers, we use data to show them ways to do that in a way that aligns wit their goals. Some customers want to move fast, others want to be cost effective, others want to use certain services - we let the data guide us down those paths. Finally, other customers have committed spends with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP, and can use the data to show them how to get the most value of that committed money, and how to start using that commit quickly. When I'm not working, I have a Piper Saratoga airplane and love to use it to travel with my wife.

Greetings from Denmark (not the capital of Sweden) I have been working technically with NetApp for the past 20 years in roles at different integrators and resellers in Denmark. Yep that's right.. when I installed my first NetApp system it was a whole different ball game... F700-series was running on Alpha CPUs and we used at least 7 floppy disks to initially install ONTAP (maybe it was more, I forgot)... For the past 9 years I have had my own little consultancy company where I also sell a few NetApp boxes while still working very much with the technical side... Looking forward to this "new" discord format, which replaces the good old toaster mailing lists (which I think is pretty much dead anyway)...

It wasn't quite that bad. I think ONTAP 6.0 was only 4 floppies but by the time we got to 6.4 it had gone to 11 floppies or something like that. And hitting a read error on a disk required you to start over. It always happened to me around disk 8 or 9.

I worked in support for 2 years in a “San Virt Perf” specialist. I then left to join the Rapid Response Engineering (RRE), doing SAN Interop PVR testing. I used to be very active on the IMT Feedback mailing list for SE’s asking whether a certain version of OS/driver/FW would be supported. Hello everyone! I have just joined my second company as an IT Support specialist who resells NetApp products. Most of the time, when we receive an ASUP alert indicating a failed disk or other hardware issues, we process the RMA and coordinate with the client for replacement assistance. If it's not an RMA case, for example, if a customer reports that their NetApp application is down and not serving data, I open a NetApp case and facilitate meetings for live troubleshooting with the client and NetApp support.

Now, I am curious about everything related to NetApp and would like to explore it further. Can you help me point in the right direction on where to start to become a NetApp guru someday? Do you have any certification recommendations? If yes, which particular certification should I pursue? I found an article suggesting that I should start with NSO-093, but it seems to have been retired already. Are there any practice labs available where I can experiment with NetApp devices and explore their features?

To be honest, I am feeling confused and overwhelmed with the abundance of information available online. Can you suggest a roadmap or a step-by-step guide that I can follow?

Thank you in advance for any insights, recommendations, or clarifications that you can provide.

You guys rock

Hello NetApp community!

My social profiles say, I'm "... a father, blogger, OSS committer, source control nerd, Java certified web technologist/developer/architect ☕ , analog wargamer 🪖 , home brewer 🍺 , and lifelong RPG gamer 🤓 ."

I've had two career epochs. For ten years I worked in Film 🎞️ /TV 📺 /Print 📰 as Location Manager and Producer (yes... I have an IMDB entry). I returned to school for my Masters degree in Computer Science in 2000. Today, the last 23 years has been working with web technologies in Consumer Credit customer acquisition and account servicing and Excess and Surplus insurance, i.e., "hard to insure" markets like Ax Throwing, Cannabis growing, and manufactured homes, where I'm the Senior Solutions Architect. My area of expertise is in Java web architecture and build tools, read: Maven.

@carmine quail threatened to out me, so I guess it's my turn on the soapbox.

I've been with NetApp coming up on 23 years. I worked on the launch of our Fibre Channel SAN products and later the addition of iSCSI. Most of my contributions were whitepapers though I did have heavy involvement in the release of the iSCSI initiatior for Novell NetWare. Now I lead a team of 40+ people wordwide that help our technical staff sell and support NetApp products. My group includes the Lab on Demand for employees, partners, and customers and the Customer Proof of Concept labs.

Outside of work, I'm a big fan of LEGO and similar building systems. I run my own home datacenter where I like to play with databases, dashboards like Smashing and Grafana, and virtualization technologies.

If you are at INSIGHT this week, please visit the 3rd floor and drop in on the Hands-On Labs and do an achievement lab to earn a pin and a Credly badge.

Hi I'm spam hater, i just found your channel through your gen 8 proliant reset video .. it has answered a few question and made me ask a lot more... i used to be in tech, so can following instructions lol

i purchased a hp proliant micro server off ebay, with the idea of using it as DAS at first , with the ability to learn and get more confident with nas etc. It used as a home lab concept.

But feels like after following hp's docs and setup I am no where close to get it running.

so first question., have i invested badly lol !

it's an old 2015 bios .. but xeon core model. 16gb ram .. model, from what i see i could do with a raid controller to run full sata drives at 6mb , and was going to mirror two pairs of drives. was going to install debian and add something like casaos ... but now seems debian mediavault could be a good call ..

i have downloaded the 8.1 so pack in many different versions .. and been trying to get somewhere ...if someone has a bit of chat or leave a reply and would like to pick someone(s) brain to get me headed in the right direction .., even if it might be ., put it in a bin .., more win than linux but can just about hold my own ... any help would be appreciated 😁

Hey everyone,
I’m a senior AI engineer and cross-platform app developer. Most of my work is focused on building production systems, not demos or experiments. On the AI side, I’ve built and shipped LLM-powered features using RAG pipelines (embeddings, vector search, chunking, re-ranking), agent-style workflows, and tool calling. I’ve fine-tuned and deployed models for NLP and computer vision tasks, handled inference optimization, and managed prompt/version changes in live environments.
I regularly design backends that support AI workloads, including async APIs, background jobs, streaming responses, and queue-based processing. I’m used to dealing with real production concerns like latency, cost control, reliability, monitoring, rate limiting, and secure access. For apps, I’ve built and maintained iOS, Android, and web applications with shared logic and clean architecture. I’m comfortable owning the full stack end-to-end, from frontend UX to backend services, deployment, and long-term maintenance.

⦁ AI & Machine Learning: ML, DL, NLP, Computer Vision (PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, OpenAI API)
⦁ App Development: iOS & Android (Flutter, React Native), Web Apps (React, Next.js, Vue.js)
⦁ Backend & APIs: Node.js, NestJS, Express, FastAPI, Python, Go
⦁ Automation & Agents: AI agents, workflow automation, RAG systems, chatbots
⦁ Cloud & DevOps: Firebase, AWS, Docker, CI/CD, Supabase

Hi, I'm Gerold. Working for a Netapp Partner in Austria. I am excited to join again after being away from this community for a while.
Quite a lot to discover since last time, well done @patent carbon 🥳

At the moment I am researching for all things Ontap with Proxmox. Have to dig into the Virtualization topic. The community posts in Proxmox Forum led me back here.
Another topic I am currently dive in is Netapp Console B&R feature. Product managment did a pretty good job with license scoping, but from my testing I think the featureset for snapshot based recovery needs some more love 🙂

Happy to be back and shot me a message if you want to discuss or want to talk about stuff.
