Maybe someone can help me... I've marked as "favorite" several sessions on the Insight session catalog at https://insight.netapp.com/sessions/?showMyInterest=true#/. However, I don't know how to actually get to those sessions on NetApp TV, when the time comes for them. I can't tell which are live and which are on-demand either.
Can someone explain the link between insight.netapp.com session listings and NetAppTV, or how to find the content I have "favorited" tomorrow?
Hey Justin! If I'm not mistaken, the favorites are there as a bit of an agenda/schedule builder for you personally. There's no direct link between the two that I'm aware of, but I'm checking on that for you and will report back.
Good news! I'm told that at the start of the show tomorrow at 8AM Pacific, there will be a "My Sessions" tab that will appear on insight.netapp.com with links to the videos of the sessions you've favorited. Hope this helps!
excellent, thanks for looking into it!
No problem! Also, just so you're aware, those are all on-demand (pre-recorded) and will be available long after the event this week on NTV. Some of them are being re-presented here in Discord live with the presenters (We couldn't get to all of them). Check the Events tab at the top of the channel to see if there's any you're interested in!
Hey, Chris
Hey Chris!
Hi Drew
Insight 2022, based on sessions is W O R T H L E S S. It seems more and more NetApp is thinking C L O U D and forgetting their on-prem customers. Perhaps we need to start forgetting NetApp as well.
Have you seen the events we’re doing here? ONTAP and hardware updates, ADP and Networking Deep Dives, roundtable with ONTAP prod mgmt. marketing is definitely focusing heavily on cloud but look past that and there’s plenty of hardware and on-prem stuff.
Where is all this stuff and how do I find it?
Sorry, where do I find all of these things? I was so looking forward to Insight...
Once we get the home page the events will be a lot easier to spot
Please fill out the survey below and participate in sessions throughout the week in order to be eligible for $50 Gift Card drawings happening throughout the week! Once your survey is complete, click Participate to enter!
Keep an eye on the #|insight-2022 channel for the bot to announce when giveaways are happening!
Staff and Previous Winners
Most of the stuff is up already, no? Looking for those deep dives...
Plz share links so I can add them to my list to share with customers
Deep Dives will happen LIVE here in Discord. Check out the Events schedule mentioned above // top left corner
Super excited for Insight today!
👍
I hear you. And please watch the Insight keynote and featured sessions. NetApp continues to focus on hybrid multi-cloud - and hybrid means on-prem! Lots of innovation in ONTAP to be unveiled all powering AFF & FAS (plus the cloud).
What time does it start?
Sorry about the hiccup there -- switching to the real stream 🙂
So is the "Watch Party" just for streaming the event? No audio chat there?
correct
PSA: If you want to participate in the giveaways, the bot needs to know! Be sure to click the blue PARTICIPATE button under the post!
Pro-tip: you can pop the stream window out separately so you can see this chat and also see a full size stream window at whatever size you'd like 🤙
Looking good folks! The volume can be boosted a bit if you can
Let me check that
You can right click the stream and adjust the volume.
on the watch party window, you can increase the volume, which is apparently independent from your system's volume
Yeah Discord allows you to adjust it in the stream window
Volume ++ sorry y'all
Volume is much better! Thanks 🙂
That dancing geek walking down the school hallway is my spirit animal
I'll take an onprem porter
Does https://cloud.netapp.com/pricing work for anyone?
ONTAP Cloud Pricing
Works fine on my end
Can't change the products though?
Mmm dark mode ❤️
Oh you're right I can't either.
Yayyyyyy!
The BlueXP/cloud switchover is happening in real time at 8am PT, so you might want to give it a few minutes.
It's Keynote time!
You can see them if you scroll the page, I guess they are just missing the anchors
BlueXP's Observability service brings visibility into your full-stack infrastructure. Monitor, troubleshoot, optimize, and secure your hybrid multicloud data centers.
Y'all might want to find a few better graphics
NetApp BlueXP™ lets you build, protect and govern your hybrid multicloud data estate through a single control plane.
Including a better ransomware attack
defence 🙂
I’m in person w partners in Philadelphia and everyone is very excited to hear what’s new with NetApp!! Let’s do this 🥳
Does the stream keep timing out for anyone?
no
Works great for me (I'm in Tel Aviv)
Must be the VPN.
Good here too
my stream keeps stuttering but isn't timing out
I just disconnected so I'm on my home internet so hopefully that helps.
No shame in watching from https://www.netapp.tv/insight 🙃
But stay here and chat!
Stream works, but corp laptop is a balmy 155 deg F
I needed to run admin on demand just to open discord lol
Drinking game idea; take a shot when Kurian says "cloud".
We'd all be dead lmfao
Mine barely is working hard. 🙂
I mean if you want to pass out within the next 45 minutes...
This is a drinking game for advanced drinkers
Truly pickled is how I define it
...evolved drinkers, if you will
Do it with water, stay hydrated!
professional drinkers
So you can watch Insight while stuck in the bathroom? haha
Wireless headphones 😎
Let's see if I timed my YouTube video to the exsact time he will say it 🙂
Seeing real life impact of our solutions gives me the warm fuzzies 🤗😊🥰
As would taking a shot every time GK says cloud 😉
Love GK's hand gestures!
He's killin it!
#KarateChops
That used to be the drinking game during all hands!
If only we could clip every time he has chopped and make a compilation video on it.... hint hint @opal yarrow
used to be?
Reporting in from the NYC Office watch party! Packed house! Thanks @cyan scroll!
Be there tomorrow to keep the conversations going!

They have an amazing Cloud Volumes ONTAP Edge + Cloud Backup use case
"First, a word from our of our sponsors..."
I was almost expecting "Squarespace"
I am a presenter. How do I answer questions in my session?
RidgeWallet
I do love my RidgeWallet
the performances tho
Now this is the technical content customers want
I don’t know what’s happening on the screen right now 👀
Keep your datacenter bulge down!
👻
what was that
At least it wasn't a freestyle rap 😉
Thank goodness THAT hasn't come back from the 90s...yet
Felt like I was watching bo burnham internet song
#INSIGHT2023goals
Watching now!!
#GOHARVGO
Going to have to ask Harv where he gets those awesome shirts
Harv is awesome!
For those that don't know, Harv is the one that led Office and Exchange teams to O365 at Microsoft.
Watching insight while troubleshooting a container with a NetApp/trident volume.
You could say he knows a thing or two about transitioning an on-prem app to a PaaS/SaaS offering.
Welcome, and thanks for joining us!
im loving the bokeh and cam angles
Bottled by BlueXP?
I wonder if anyone from IBM is watching this lol
Or JetBlue
I feel like it should have been BluEXP?
new drinking game - drink every time you hear BlueXP
Hope you have your living will created!
Death sounds pleasurable right now
Every customer who is using CM right now must be confused
2 minutes in and I’m hammered
ride or die 4 LYFE
The partner sitting next to me said they anticipate us changing names again in a year, or two, or five. Being in sales my whole life basically, I’ll answer to any name so trying not to focus there.
I’ve been called everything from Say-Seal to Cecil like the Lion 😆😆
RIP Legend
I'm not seeing the appeal for BlueXP for on-prem only customers.
fact
lol @tame fulcrum
Fixed.
But it could be a case of "not a product for me" then.
idk @blissful comet - it *looks *like it consolidates a lot of the stuff people used to have to rely on AIQ for, except its less 'viewing' and more 'doing' based on my expert review of this page 😛 https://cloud.netapp.com/netapp-on-premises
NetApp On-premises Storage services let you deploy and operate file and block and object storage on-premises.
You can manage 100% on-premises env on BlueXP, for example it has the same Backup capabilities just with StorageGRID as target
So confused. They are taking Insights/ActiveIQ and what else? and combining them into BlueXP ?
Pretty much
Everything will be under BlueXP
will on-prem ActiveIQ still be around?
Think about synergies between capabilities
I'd rather have a button to click than 5 URLs to bookmark
🙌🏼
#SPOG!!!
100%. This has been an ask I've had since I was a customer. One place to see everything NetApp. A true Unified Manager.
Where did the name come from? I would prefer TheBigBlueN
XP as a gamer has a different meaning then what is being implied here
lol
It's more than a single page to switch between applications, think about the possible automation when everything works together
"possible automation when"
Ok so that was sort of a Dora / Nemo ref. TheBigBlue
Remember it's the first step, we have a lot of thoughts for the future 🙂
Blue XP it´s Cloud Manager or it´s my impression ?
It’s 30 years of XP for the storage game
Right now is just a name change really
I bluexp myself!
It is nice its starting to come together a bit more, have to think about end user experience with X amount of different tools
It's not Cloud Manager, it's based on some of the components
CM+AIQ+System Manager=BlueXP
I think the Ransomware dashboard is quite a good example of how we can combine lots of stuff from different BlueXP features into a single dashboard.
My favorite dashboard, hands down!
And how it brings in Cloud Secure and On-box anti-ransomware visability
other products.. not to be named..... have the equiv. of unified manager in the cloud for you to use/manage everything.
Simultaneous NAS/S3 access in ONTAP. Woohoo...
ONTAP+CI+Cloud Backup service+FPOLICY
Now if we can get S3 SnapMirror into SVMDR
Can't go NAS into S3 though
Cloud Sync can
That doesn't count
Not yet Judson...
And that is not a roadmap statement but ya know, use your imagination.
That's the goal for BlueXP. What we're delivering today - unified management of all our cloud and on-prem storage products in a single place.
Awesome, glad to hear.
While you're all here ^ be sure to fill out the form and register for the giveaway (staff excluded -- sorry)
Drew, if I temporarily resign and then re-join tomorrow morning, can I win? (Dear HR: This is a joke).
I'll give you $50 just to see you do it Jeff
I'll throw in $50 on that 😉
It won't let me push the participate button.
Am I missing someting, or did I push it?
Paul, we discussed this earlier
More coffee for Paul
I missed it then. Sorry y'all.
More coffee with less whiskey 😉
Let's see... calculating my daily salary vs. $50.... wait, math is hard.
Oh I see it now.
#FinePrint
Sorry all.
dont forget to carry the one....that gets me every time lol
it's was worth a shot Paul
Dang reading comprehension. lol
With the way the taxes keep changing in the UK I've given up working out what I earn
Amazing what coffee does! Now I get it!
Wait, you all get paid for this?
I get paid in BlueXP Dollars.
What's the ratio to USD?
0
If you only knew how many times we had to do that "walking down the stairs" shot
Hopefully you closed your circles on the apple fitness 😉
is it just me or does the volume button do nothing?
odd, mine is at the top...
On a mac?
Pop out vs full screen might make a difference there
no, chrome on windows.... https://www.netapp.tv/player-live/29600?mcid=38473689620406243710751586613488941916
another Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handey
beat me to it hahaha
minus the political piece....
yeah they snuck that in the gif haha
I'm just impressed no one ended up on crutches. Or hit by an errant drone.
First hit via discord lol
That said, Jenni's shoe game is HOT FIRE.
ahhhh link from the "guide" gives me that broken volume button, this url works
https://www.netapp.tv/live-event/29599/player/live?assetType=events&playlist_id=148&mcid=38473689620406243710751586613488941916
Would've been hilarious if she introduced herself, turned to another camera, and continued speaking
That was last years Insight if you recall
I think we had a version like that...
Buenos dias, Cesar!
Everytime i see Cesar all i can i think of is Clear and Present Danger
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0021835/mediaviewer/rm2628894721?context=default&ref_=nm_phs_md_1
Me too!
Featured sessions coming up soon, deeper dive into a lot of features and some cool conversations with some cloud partners coming up!
He was a bad ass in that movie
Best Jack Ryan movie I think
Hunt for Red October is great, but I could never by Alec as Ryan
I’ll take Gary Oldman in Air Force One any day. Actually Gary Oldman in The Professional. In fact, let’s just go Gary Oldman in any villain role.
EXACTLY.
Is that the international release name for Leon?
air force one was epic same as clear and present danger
NO YOU DIDN'T!
Still Natalie Portman's best performance, to this day.
TIL that was Natalie Portman...
Natalie Portman's rap on SNL wins IMO
lol member berries
That seemed like a pretty big non-answer to "what's coming with FSxN"
Hey look Ma, I'm on TV
ITS THAT GUY FROM TV
What's the button?
Look Ma, I'm streaming on the interwebs.
GOOOO Matt!
And how did it feel interviewing someone from the Phantom Zone?
Ma i know that guy on TV....ya sure steven
Matt is a BALLER for stepping up and covering these sessions. Some fun inside baseball... he was NOT feeling well, but he's such a PRO you could never tell.
Presents better sick than I do normally
Matt was SICK during this?! Superb work @agile anvil 🤙
It's the accent, we can pull off a lot with that alone
Someday I want to grow up to be Matt Watts.
Matt is one of the reasons I wanted to join the company, it took me far too long to get in the door, but eventually made it
When he was EMEA Field CTO and I was Americas Field CTO, it was such an unfair comparison for me. I mean, he's smarter, better accent. Just unfair.
Aw shucks I'm blushing Jason
And me being at the company drove out enough people to give you that chance Jason! 🤣
Hold on Matt, how are you chatting AND presenting at the same time!?!?! 😉
#beastmode
the magic of television
That's just the level of talent Matt brings!
Is this not live?
AI
Spoiler alert, Matt has like half a dozen clones in the basement.
Typing between hand gestures
Memorex
the recording is playing live, for sure.
Let me get a drink and I'll be back with Google
damn that was quick Matt lol
self alley-oop!
San Jose office makes a great backdrop for this
The background footage used when they are both in frame make them look child-sized.
But it does look like a nice office, maybe I'll get to see it in 2023.
I need to come up and see you as well Maki
I barely get to see RTP, let along anything west of the Mississippi
Next time I'm on the west coast I'll come up
Do you live in CA now?
Or do you mean as a part of a side trip when you're already down there?
When I moved back to this area I actually looked at a Santana Row place, but yeah... ugh price tag.
As part of a side trip, I'll be over more often now
If you guys hang out another 15 minutes or so, you'll get to see me typing here while magically on screen as well.
Jason just needs to find an excuse to visit Amazon/Microsoft in Seattle... Vancouver (relatively) not a long trip from there.
Wait until the rainy season is over, unless you want to go snowboarding, but we'd love to have you.
its a really nice office, but it was pretty deserted. a lot of the furniture was still in the shrink wrap, the fooseball tables were still new in box. the caffeteria wasn't operating yet.
I'm getting my hair and makeup done right now for my big appearance.
Say "hot dog" if you're really live
cold dog
Yeah, we're not forcing employees to come in, etc. Working where it makes sense. The cafeteria and barista bar are open now though, and the 6th floor terrace is an amazing place to work outside..
You'll get a $10 for everytime you can fit in Dog
Hold on, I'm contacting our producers to see if we can do a live insert of "hot dog" in the clearly not pre-recorded video stream.
awesome. I'm still going to miss the sushi guy when I'm up there though 🙂
Surely they can overlay some clipart
a-la chinese overdub?
I'll be in NorCal Dec 20-25, maybe I'll come buy with my $100 NetApp Gear Gift card
Excellent, I'll tell security to set the gate charge that day to $100.
Speaking of which, no new merch for Insight?
As long as I get to spend it, I think I got it at the last IRL Insight.
Is there a Gear Store in the new office?
No.
curses
You can't use it at the online gear store?
That's been there for awhile tho
Shipping to Canada always ends up being problematic with FedEx's usurious importation fees
I thought the whole Patagonia vest thing was now out of fad in the valley.
But I'll have a look now and ship it to my sister's house for when I'm there.
It is, that's why NetApp is now carrying them. 😉
I feel like sustainability comes up every day now. I'm waiting for laptop power supplies, mobile phone chargers, etc. coming with either physical displays or some sort of bluetooth interface to provide real-time metering on energy consumption.
I want solar a solar roof without having to pay for it
and breath
How soon before our cars have carbon meters next to the odometer.
If only to get to the bathroom faster... eh Judson?
Whoops! wrong channel
Thank you all for joining us for the main live program here LIVE! We're going to start our breakouts now with an update on the latest ONTAP version! But stick around here if that doesn't interest you for more featured sessions as part of the live keynote and featured sessions!
https://discord.com/events/855068651522490400/1032329011713540126
Wooooohoooooooooo!!!!!!!!
Ninja! LTNS!
IKR! Time to get back into the swing of things, miss you guys!
Only 25 people allowed in that What's New channel?
We're trying to sort that out. Totally unexpected 😕
Yeah, I can't join either
It's supposed to 50, we're working on it.
LOVE the concept of a tamper-proof snapshot! Increased flexibility of locking down a subset of the data with just an OS upgrade!
I dropped so someone else can join.
too late 😦
Guess I can't join it either...
Staff, let's sit out so customers can join
Yeah, I'm not gonna join until you say it's "fixed".
at least I get a spoiler whats going on .via mouse-over...
Keith had a great point about long term risks (like disabling snapshot schedules).
Even if that's not something done intentionally, it could be done by mistake and cause big issues.
Just remember to stop all other presentations and watch me on the stream in.. 10 minutes? 🙂
Huge. My Taylor Swift MP3s alone take up several yottabytes.
Wouldn't miss it for the world
Are these being recorded and going to be made available afterwards?
PSA: This setting is your friend
If you have questions for Keith, you can either unmute yourself and ask LIVE or drop it in here and I will read it when he checks in for questions
you cant't unmute
try that again plz
"you do not have permission to speak in this channel"
Still no
not that I have a question currently 😉
always these little kinks in the first session 🙂
Now we know why official Insight streams are pre-recorded.
I am locked out of the watch party channel, is there a way to get back in?
Too many viewers
Working on an Idea for that. The cap was not expected
cool, no worries
@opal yarrow not sure if the questions in the presentations chat are being relayed, but I also wanted to ask about the possibility of the Ransomware piece being enabled by default, then perhaps unlock the snapshot it takes in the event of a ransomware event if needed for a fee. its a bit backwards I guess, but the cost is fairly prohibitive as it currently stands.
@cyan scroll
I got you, thanks for the question!
Should be able to follow along in the watch party channel for some extra capacity
Thanks Drew!
So wait @silk light are you streaming your screen of another Discord stream?
Yep! Remote Desktop to another PC
that gif is breaking by brain
Technology!
so good though
I'll stop the notification sounds at the next break
Okay, who killed my GIF?
Sorry had to delete that GIF, I was about to vomit.
Thanks for that
Do you collect these? I've seen the ads but have not been tempted. I have a co-worker who has a dozen or so though.
I thought about reposting it. I've always wanted to be banned from a Discord channel.
Nope, it's just from Inception.
is the Ransomware Fpolicy a static definition? or is it feed updated?
That is a great mind breaking movie!
Yeah, it's probably time for a re-watch
Can you view the events that fpolicy is flagging? To kind of review what it would do before enabling the actual blocking.
These questions are in the chat for the presentation already.
Sorry we're recording the session and I'm not monitoring that, plus we can't store them for posterity.
FPolicy blocking is static, but you can go in and add/remove extensions
That was my understanding of the current version, was wondering if it had changed. I believe it is logged to data that only Netapp support can access.
@languid kayak Did you just re-join? I see you're unmuted and I'm wondering if new-joiners are able to control their own mute button.
I've asked before and been told no. Haven't been told of any changes in 9.12.1 with fpolicy
The integration with the Support site is huge.
Darkmode FTW
Yokes! That must be it. Didn't realize I wan unmuted
Nothing awkward was broadcast.
talk more about SVM Data Mobility pls!
Anyone say something about SnapLock+FlexGroup support? ;P
Need S3 SnapMirror integrated with SVM-DR
will we able to use this for migration of SVM with all the different protocols? SVM migrate, yes
That session has two great speakers... and me!
Still have a 25 viewer limit?
Gotta back that FlexGroup UP!!
Go to Watch Party and you can see it.
NFS4 session trunking plus flexgroup for NFS datastores in vSphere will be awesome!
We are working around the limits
Yeah that works
You can join in Watch Party as well
What is SnapMirror unification?
Did you know that if you are a partner you can access pre-release versions of ONTAP in the virtual Early Access Program via https://labondemand.netapp.com? Did you knwo that if you are a customer you can access pre-release versions of ONTAP you can access the Early Access Program via https://handsonlabs.netapp.com? These EAPs are usually available a couple months before the RC. You can provide early feedback to the product managment team!
regarding SVM Mobility: is it also supported for FAS with HDD aggrs? fingerscrossed
@dusky ore Yes.
Okay folks, hair/makeup done, time for me to get in front of the camera!
break a leg!
Okay while Ronen is talking, I'm here.
Is that pNFS?
follow-up: do we need vSphere 8 for this? I think vSphere 7 already supported NFS trunking before right?
I guess not because pNFS was supported before in ONTAP
Thanks, Keith!
I think this is specific to ESXi.
awesome session, thanks
Right?
Ya ROCKED IT, Keith! Great job!!!
Thanks Keith!
Is Keith done? Tune back into the main Insight stream... the speaker only sucks a little.
Wait, how are you talking here and to ROnan?
I just left and re-joined and I now have control over my mute button @silk light @opal yarrow, just an FYI.
Every time I've offscreen I'm on a keyboard.
is that on NetApp.tv?
Yup, Channel 1 stream.
Great demo Bax!
LOL. Thanks Chris.. I had some expert help behind the scenes. 😉
there are too many streams, I need more monitors 😫
Right? Imagine the number of people yelling at me to answer chat questions on different streams?
Those 1994 outfits!
And I keep saying "I'm on camera, I can't do chat people!"
Jeff you're killing it
Ah thanks.
Check!
The Support integration in BlueXP is great.
I am definitely enjoying the Discord stream. Appreciate it!!!
Love the Discord as well. Interactivity at least of a sort!
F U N G I B L E
I like the word bamboozle.
Bamboozle? That's unpossible!
He did a heckin bamboozle!
sesquipedalian
One of my favorite demos coming up to close out this Ronen/Jeff show.
And boy am I tired of chatting here everytime the camera cuts to Ronen.
Nick is basically a collection of memes with a beard.
a fabulous beard at that
Why was subnets/subneting took out of the interface? it used to allow us to create a range of ip(s) to assign to lifs? Could that be added back? or better could there be any other 3rd party integrations aka like infoblox?
The beard is the star, I'm just the vessel that moves it from place to place.
#spearfished
I'm giving him a run for his money these days
I've had his credentials for weeks now.
Scott's session is giving me classic INSIGHT session vibes
Okay folks, have to log off for a bit... some analyst briefings to actually do... in person (?!?) at the office here.
I gave up on the beard and just let the head hair grow.
Yeah I am unable to do this
And my beard game was not as on-point as some of you.
storage efficiencies are enabled on my beard
Bravo @keen crest !
I hope you're not storing food in your beard.
My grandad always said he was saving it for Ron
Was him name Ron?
If your physical port is using a native vlan, is there any way to tell what that vlan is from OnTap?
This question is outstanding. I'm not sure if this was added to 9.12 or not.
No he was a punny guy, it was later’on
Isn't there a "discovered IP addresses" or something that would give you a clue?
It was in the SM interface, but recent versions removed the subnet / automatic ip assignment for lifs in the gui. Currently we are on 9.10.1P7 but I don't see that added back yet.
Where do you see that?
Assuming some sort of zapi / rest conversion or thinking it wasn't used anymore?
We used it all the time...
Its there via Cmd line aka 'subnet show' but now I'm thinking it was deprecated for some reason that I dont understand
Pretty sure it's like everything else that fell out of System Manager... it fell out in favor of "simplicity" and won't add it back in unless folks raise a stink
I can't remember now, looking for it.
Are these Discord sessions going to end up on netapp.tv? I know I asked that before but I don't remember seeing an answer
We are recording them where we can, they will go up somewhere
There is no vlan field in net int show
I want to be able to share them with customers, would be a shame to have them stuck on Discord
Is native VLAN in the CDP/LLDP information? I would have to check
That's the plan, yes.
No, it is not.
(assuming I don't completely screw this up)
Yall think IP routing is fun, try audio routing.
Yeah, this is a great learning experience
What about IP-based audio routing? Dante or AVB?
hahaha
"Two bald guys and one BlueXP" --great line 🤣 (from the Managing your hybrid multicloud data estate stream, that is)
Will the cluster backend use RDMA if I have a 4-node with AFF A400 & FAS8700?
so the FAS does not support RDMA, right?
ok thx
Thanks, IEEE
srsly
#|insight-2022 message Reminder! You need to click the blue PARTICIPATE button in order to be considered for the giveaway! Fill out the survey, click Participate button, PROFIT! Staff not eligible
Whomever is in charge of NetApp.tv really needs to work on the search functionality.
This session is called BlueXP 101 on the title deck, nothing shows up if you search for that. Have to just search for BlueXP
It was because we didn't share the product name before the release...
Not sure how that's applicable. This is the live content search.
The catalog was published weeks ago.
That's because the session is actually titled "Managing your hybrid multicloud data estate"
Yeah, should have BlueXP 101 as a keyword
Also, BlueXP 101 search should still show results for BlueXP
Again, cant have a keyword that pre-announces a product...
Adding extra characters shouldn't eliminate keyword matches
This probably isn't the place for this discussion
I read something about iSCSI LIFs being able to LIF-failover with ONTAP 9.11 or 9.12? Just like with NFS or SMB LIFs
or is this only for ASA?
@stiff tinsel <followup>
If anyone remembers the joy of Clustered Data ONTAP networking pre 8.3, you'll know it has come a very, very long way.
Did someone say Forsight??
GX
1981 Honda Civic 2dr+hatchback baby!
Sorry
I may have clicked on it 20 times does that count?
87 Rx7 Turbo
My favorite part of GX is the version of it was 10.x. So everytime someone asks me when ONTAP 10 is coming, I tell them we already had it 15 years ago. 😉
Well done @stiff tinsel
oooh, ADP is a favourite of mine as well.
ADP, has a max # of drives though which is good for smaller clusters, but bigger clusters / # of disks we had some issues, unless that max # of drives has changed
Also no joke I've been worried that if we ever move from ONTAP 9.12, etc to ONTAP 10 if we'd accidentally break something that points to ONTAP GX 10.0. LOL.
our very own NetApp Y2k event 😕 lol
Then use ONTAP11 like MS did. with Windows 9 which was never there
Its a long way to 10 9.13.... 9.19... 9.20... 🙂
Question regarding the tamper-proof snapshots: How does that work with "normal" snapshots created after a SnapLock snapshot? Usually when I restore to a certain snapshot all the snapshots having being created after that one will be gone. But if we have that one tamper-proof snapshot it shouldn't allow that... right?
Volume - 2022-10-06 (current date)
Snap_Daily - 2022-10-05
Snap_Daily - 2022-10-04 (tamper-proof snapshot)
Snap_Daily - 2022-10-03
Snap_Daily - 2022-10-02 --> I will restore to this snapshot
Snap_Daily - 2022-10-01```
Pretty sure it's the first 48 devices still.
ohhh what are the beer names btw?
10.1 release notes (skipping 10.0)
ONTAP 7 + ONTAP 10 (GX) = ONTAP 8.0
Yeah... we've certainly discussed internally, but the more modern experience is to have these non-disruptive modular upgrades "forever" instead of big massive upgrades that are the traditional first-digit number. So who knows when/if we'll do something like ONTAP 10/11?
One of them (9.13 or 14) should be „Tannenzäpfchen“. I don’t know how the non-Germans work with that
I'm from Germany I heard some rumors about Tannenzäpfle
!!!!
😄
that's what I meant
Save the ADP chatter for Thursday! But, while we're on the subject, ADP will be implemented across a maximum of 24x HDDs or 48x SSDs during initialization. There are ways to grow beyond that, though.
Confirmed, 48 for AFF, 24 for FAS. Why would you want more though?
Thank you!
I've been here 15 years and I still haven't personally cracked the code on who actually gets to pick the beer codenames. 🙂 Then again, I haven't forced Octavian to tell me either. 🙂
It's a good one
US always forget about MCC 😀
well by x2
Yeah, I don't give a lot of mind share to MCC, there's not a lot of that up here in Canada.
Yep - 2x is the factor for mirroring. This is also the case for local SyncMirror, which is also supported.
MCC = Mc Chicken...its well past lunch time on the east coast lol
It was very funny when NetApp announced cDOT 8.3 at the Insight in Berlin (EMEA) and 90% where asking for MCC. They learned their lesson, the year after the message was „we have MCC“ 😀
Germany and UK have always been hotspots for MetroCluster
Switched from MCC FC to MCC IP and its has been working great though for us. I think were one of the first to stretch the limits of distance too.
I kept putting in product requirements for MCC Token Ring, but engineering kept yelling at me.
lol token ring....ahhh memories
@slow tendon
The winner of this giveaway is tagged above! Congratulations :tada:
$50 Gift Card
Congrats @slow tendon! Will be in touch at the end of the week!
I've missed the earlier sessions/keynote but I'm still trying to understand the BlueXP part:
Is it basically Cloud Manager, Active IQ, Cloud Insights and the GUI of the local system managers (ONTAP, SANtricity & StorageGRID) combined under the same backend?
📢 To make them a little easier to find, giveaways have been moved to the #┊・giveaways channel. 🚨
Same rules as before 🙂
<paging @keen crest>
Hey @dusky ore I think that's a good summary of the functionality. We believe that the sum will be more than the whole of its parts by allowing us to embed capabilities from any of those products you mention easily with any of the others. (For example, calling the backup/recovery capabilities from what used to be Cloud Backup directly from the Ransomware Protection dashboard).
Oh also managing Keystone directly from BlueXP, plus digital wallet to manage and even swap your cloud data services.
Just a reminder that this is a public forum, and this is a new announcement as of this morning. There is still some parts and pieces that are NDA privileged, and to respect those boundaries, please! Double-verify you can talk about things or let @keen crest dance that line for you.
@dusky ore Regarding iSCSI LIF failover: Confirmed to be available in ONTAP 9.11, but only for ASA. TBD what happens in the future.
HA! Former decru customer!
I'd really like to see that iSCSI lif failover move beyond ASA
That's why I put the cabeat "TBD what happens in the future." Otherwise noted.
This is interesting and I'd like to understand the "why" behind this, perhaps there's some OS' that don't support ALUA or don't have MPIO software?
What's the use case that wouldn't be covered by ALUA/MPIO or even LACP?
I still have parts of a decru box that I scrapped years ago.. security hardware is nuts electronically. Did you ever open one? X-ray detection circuitry and tamper switches
LIF failover is faster iirc
Than ALUA
Provided the ARP tables populate fast enough.
I'd be interested in understanding that a bit better as well. I generally just let the paths right themself as switches reboot/controllers or whatever. Bouncing connections back and forth more seems like asking for issues, as in the netapp moving them to the other lif i mean.
Agreed.
We’ve got this page on it Chris - https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/san-admin/asa-iscsi-lif-fo-task.html
Yeah, I read that page before asking the "why" above just in case RTFM covered my question.
You can use 'network interface show' for this. The limitation is that it cannot show the upstream switch's native VLAN if the ONTAP port is not VLAN-ed as well.
Good stuff.
I think the intent was to determine what the native VLAN is, if any.
the upstream switch's native VLAN cannot be detected by a device attached to it
*upstream switch port's native VLAN
I think the best you could do is run pktt on the port then look at the subnets visible, if any.
LLDP and CDP can do that, IIRC. They just usually don't.
the 1q VLAN tagging doesn't happen until the packet egresses from the upstream port
and then gets stripped when it goes down to the attached device to the port
However, is a "native" VLAN a VLAN at all or is it a hybrid access/L2 port?
my vote: not even a VLAN
I don't believe packets in a native VLAN have a VLAN header at all, but I've never looked into that.
I was just looking that up, ha. I didn’t think CDP could, but LLDP could have a TLV for it
I've always just assumed that's how it was accomplished.
well... there are 2 types of "native"
go on
Those who understand binary and those who do not?
A native VLAN is a special VLAN whose traffic traverses on the 802.1Q trunk without any VLAN tag
source: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/difference-between-default-vlan-and-native-vlan/
there is the switch "native" which usally is 1 and really means "untagged"
then... there's the "native" VLAN of a trunked port
While it does usually default to 1, I think security best practice is to modify that.
that's the VLAN tag that gets applied for traffic that is not tagged on that port
Trunk being 802.11q and not Nortel's definition of trunk which is LACP to everyone else.
LOL
Back when I was on the team of cable company launching a phone service, we (the datacentre guys) had quite the debate over what a "trunk" is with the TelCo guys.
I think this is the "default VLAN"
Indoubatable
that's what security would want to change, yes
and that's irrelevant to ONTAP since ONTAP doesn't even see that
True enough. So, to answer the question I believe was asked, no, there is no command to determine if there is a native VLAN on a link attached to a port however, that doesn't mean you can't figure it out using tools available on-box.
If it is VLAN-ed inside of ONTAP, then it will show up in 'network interface show' output as something like e0e-516 et al.
Like I said, the question I believe was asked.
If it is on a VLAN outside of ONTAP, then you are correct: you'd have to use tools on the switches or elsewhere to deduce it.
IE: check if there is a native VLAN assigned on a port that was provisioned for you.
@opal yarrow It really whip's the llama's ass!
Will the NetApp logo change back to blue again now that we have that BlueXP? 🤓
if you have a native VLAN... ONTAP does not need to do anything to use it
No, but for security reasons someone may want to confirm that there is NOT one.
then set every port on the switch to "trunk". Then ONTAP will be REQUIRED to create a VLAN to use a port
I have, in the past, used a default native VLAN on a0a for mgmt and then all the other lifs on a0a-xyz
Provided the NetApp admin has that access.
correct
That is really cool @languid galleon !
A GK Karate Chop?
One more question: If BlueXP should be my (future) single pane of glass what happens to Active IQ Unified Manager?
Any plans to also integrate that into BlueXP?
If BlueXP is cloud-only, there still needs to be something for dark sites.
will be private and restricted modes/versions
Questions for Kevin?
Where should a customer start? How can a VAR partner get started with Spot?
15 min bio break and then we're back at the top of the hour with @covert juniper! It's time to geek out on some HARDWARE! https://discord.com/events/855068651522490400/1032355328437788673
That would be interesting for my company also, since we are heavily regulated what data can be send outside
lol...SNek is what I noticed too
Chris is indeed the man
I tried to add on-premises stuff (ONTAP and StorageGRID) to BlueXP. The 2nd screen insists on a cloud connector so I'm dead in the water - no cloud here. It seems like somebody decided that all-cloud or hybrid-cloud was all they really wanted to support today.
@ivory glen everything looking good and sounding okay in the watch party channel?
Aye aye cap'n
Thanks
Drop in questions here for Chris and I'll relay them, or you're welcome to come off mute and ask yourself!
You can deploy that connector to on-prem 😉
https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/cloud-manager-setup-admin/concept-connectors.html
A little confused on why model wise this goes from a700 -> a900? would think more traditional would be a700 -> a710, a720 ?
Guys like Chris and I don't get to chose the names. That is a Product Marketing decision.
Gotcha. 🙂
hell, now I even wanna know why
Never thought about that... we did A200, A220, A250
A250 is a MONSTER.
yes it did
Thanks. I just read the docs and it requires RHEL7, not RHEL8. Any chance of supporting 8 soon?
Because the AFF A800 came out in between
thanks for the clarification 🙂
Very soon
Wait Scott Bell is back?
Present and accounted for!
I must have been under a rock lately. Welcome Back. I bet you can’t wait for me to bother you on teams. 🙂
I'll be here and waiting!
I sure wish this switch was available 9 months ago so I wouldn't have to have an awkward conversation with my customers with multiple A400s on the BES switch.
@opal yarrow Yes, it is possible to conceivably connect a bunch of 4x breakout cables to the switch. You just need to modify the start-up script to do so.
If you're interested in Harvest, that team is centralized here in #┊・harvest-nabox🔒, drop by and say hello to @valid remnant!
What was the 100Gbit NIC Chris mentioned at the start, X91153A?
For the AFF A900?
Yes
Yes, it is.
Looking at HWU, if you choose switchless, it tells you it's going to use the X91440A, you don't get the X91153A in HWU unless you choose switched in the "supported connections" area.
Is this correct or a copy/paste issue from the A700 content?
Looks like a order of display error. If you look at options 2 & 3 you can see the switchless 100GbE connections.
If only someone from Product Marketing was here to talk about how we number products.
Know anybody that can do that?
Look, it's because the A900 is quantitatively 200 better than the A700. Sheesh.
we say "Marketing" and see who magically appears!
Because 'Master Reset Switch' sounds better than 'Off Button'
Sorry, you know, long marketing lunches at fancy restaurants, the usual. 🤣 (Dear HR: This is a joke.)
Umm my audio of Chris cut out, is that just me?
Just you
Audio fine here
Okay, thanks.. very weird.
Ya need some o' that-there WiFi 6E sir
I'm in the office, funny...
Model names: There was previously F720/F740/F760...maybe that's why?
@stiff tinsel What chipset does the X91153A use?
I think it's his wifi actually. Pixelated slides are a giveaway.
Speaking of giveaways, Don't forget to fill out our survey and drop by the #┊・giveaways channel and click the Participate button!
Okay, so the weird part is I joined from my phone and I can see him.
But even stopping/starting Discord entirely on my PC didn't work.
How many are you doing each day?
2 per day
There is a platinum EcoVadis Medal you can receive:

#goals for next time Chris! 🙂
i had to stop the stream because vpn and discord sux...and i need to recover some servers in the lab from a power outage 😕
No new entry-FAS hardware announcements? ☹️
No, sorry.
Yes it is. The A250 is awesome.
Is Jeff still here? Think we've got a marketing line for them to use.
yeah.... but a entry-level FAS with 25Gb would be great
FAS8300 is a bit too much for some customers
Isnt that what Nick is showing above the NEW P190 (Purple) 😉
It's probably got bigger specs that a 190
now we're talking 😄
but now I really want a chassis in the DC with transparent windows
we need more RGB in the DC! 🌈
I may or may not have contacted EKWB last summer trying to do a side project to water-cool a storage array. I need to revisit that.
Could you theoretically use 25GbE to its potential with an entry level spinning disk system though? Genuinely curious on that sort of thing.
No
^Good point, probably not without a lot of parallel throughput
Define entry level...
If you mean 2750/190, no. They only have either 8 or 12 CPUs if memory serves.
12 CPUs might.
Liquid cooling ?
I'm still rocking several NetApp racks in ours with the blue backlighting, even though our physical footprint has shrunk to only 2 of them in use
ask Chris, he's on HWU right now 😉
VPAT = Voluntary Product Assessment Template.
LOL
Not only has the price dropped, but now you can order with only 12 drives instead of a minimum of 24.
FAS 500f that is
Dev's Session
now we only need smaller QLC SSDs...
Agreed, so we can compete with Pure's C-series.
Bye everyone!
woo hoo!
Thanks for a great day of interactive sessions everyone! Please do fill out the survey and give us your feedback! This is totally an experiment and we want to know if you like this format! Not just for Insight, but for any and all events and activities we have planned for the future!
We'll see you tomorrow morning at 9AM Pacific for Andy Crudge from AWS going over FSx ONTAP!
Does anyone know what happened to the Rivian Insight session?
I was super keen on watching it, and I can't seem to find it.
Solidfire transitions. SF had no ALUA requirement.
Fairly sure all the on-demand content from Insight 2022 will be available from Nov 4 onwards. Unless someone throws a ball at me and tells me I am wrong.
Actually thats the key notes, so yeah someone should throw a ball at me. Let me poke around and see if I can find out more.
Thanks mate.
All the on-demand stuff should be available now. Keynotes streaming in live sessions for APAC and EMEA and available to everyone on Nov 4th. Not sure about a Rivian session, doesn't ring a bell for me, but I haven't been tracking all the break-outs. Where did you see reference to it @zealous dune ?
Awww man, that @opal yarrow guy is back on Channel 1 again... he seems awfully repetitive. 🙂
What a magnificent beard tho
Indeed... checking on that session for you.
That beard.
Insight2022 already had maximum participant?
It seems that way in the chat.
No other way to join? 🥲
We are aware of this issue. Apologies for the inconvenience.
All the cool kids chat in here anyway 😛
Exaaaaaaaaaactly.

Watch party is already over - sad face 😦
It appears we had some challenges and that session didn't make it through to Insight. My apologies. We are curious though... it shouldn't have been in any emails. It might have been in the catalog briefly before it got pulled.
Is normal?
I will pass along your interest in the session and hopefully we can produce it in the future.
Hey @subtle mulch it's a known issue, apologies for the inconvenience.
@keen crest that's a shame. No problems, thanks. Yes, I think it was in the timetable, not email.
this song will haunt my dreams
I was just about to say something, but didn't want to get banhammer'd 😛
🤣
Imagine if you had to hear it multiple times a day for the last two months.
pls no
The whole office was just "oh my god what is this"
Jeff has it as his ring tone. For sure!
Often times in forward and reverse as I was doing edit suggestions.
Oh, and the funny part is when it's first suggested as a track, it has a "watermark" (soundmark?) in it so you can't use it, a slightly subliminal voice whispering the name of the stock music site. That we didn't buy/remove til it was final.
So we had to listen to this subliminal voice over and over and over again during the reviews.
haha
Buy Now Buy Now Buy Now
I swear I made some weird Amazon purchases that week.
trab pu kcip
I did have a chuckle when they said "we don't call it on prem anymore, we call it off cloud"
there needs to be a :kool-aid:
On-premises is just "Soon to be Cloud" 😉
- Premises
🙂
🙂
For those that are interested we have a blog post up now that speaks about BlueXP - https://www.netapp.com/blog/meet-netapp-bluexp/
so what do we think about combined S3 and NAS access to the same volume? pretty cool huh? 😄
I think this is cool. This will help compete with things like VAST. I must let Rob know. 😛
hah
The suite of capabilities baked into Spot is actually quite impressive.
Oh here we go......next song!
Late night APAC crew! It's 9PM here in Sin City! Thanks for hangin with us! You're in good hands with Alex and Ross (Bax too). All the sessions/events we had today here in Discord were recorded and will be available ASAP! The rest will be as well over the next couple of days.
Nice @opal yarrow! I'm looking forward to catching up on those Discord sessions.
Huge kudo's to our Digital Support crew. 🙂
woo digital support strategy *high fives @silk light and @brisk wharf *
I'll delete that.. the waving is annoying after a few.. hah
You don't want to see Tom hanks waving forever... and ever?
Yes please refrain from GIF seizures in chat.
David S Pumpkins? 😄
While I've got you, if you wouldn't mind, we'd love to hear feedback from you and get to know you better! Would you do us a the favor of filling out our survey? I slaved over it myself. https://form.jotform.com/223036919644056
Taco Cloud. 🌮
Man, all the good animated GIFs get deleted.
And btw, the taco truck in the cloud absolutely was edit-proof in the script of that video.
Anytime someone suggested scrapping it, we told them no taco truck no random animated video.
I am glad the taco truck made it. #worthit
I want tacos. They've just opened Taco Bell here in Australia.
That's dangerous. 😮
That ... is something I've always taken for granted. I'm not sure I could live without Taco Bell.
We have Guzmen and Gomez chain here in Singapore. It hits the spot.
GyG is amazing
ahhh the Australian GyG are everywhere in Asia... there is even like one or two in Tokyo
(it was started by an american guy, but it is run from australia at least 😉
Smart move designing an image life cycle management solution natively built into GCloud, so many customers/on-premise software solutions that need to be refreshed and redesigned or evolved to leverage the cloud.
If you're curious about the Sustainability topic, you can learn more by checking out this series by Matt Watts called WTF - https://www.netapp.tv/details/29650
On man, this guy is back again?
LOL. Thanks.. I think?
The restricted mode is going to be helpful! Nice. 🙂
Loving this content speaking to leveraging Digital Advisor! 🙂
Have a nap, then up again for EMEA launch!
The issue should be resolved, please try again
Hope everyone has enjoyed the varying topics after the keynote including the intro to BlueXP!
@solid mountain has done a few excellent videos on his youtube channel going over things in more detail! Highly recommend!

Is a magic number!
Taco talk.
They just opened a Del Taco where I'm at to compete with TBell
Both win my heart with their super easy to modify menu for vegetarian+ options
Done!
Are you guys working on a virtual appliance option? Setting up a linux box and installing things etc just to kind of see if there is any value here is probably a bit much. My systems are fully onprem and like Ed, I hit that wall with the cloud connector piece immediately. In looking at the doc you linked for running one on-prem it just seemed a bit much to deal with for not really understanding the benefit.
There are so many tools its pretty difficult to keep up with whats what anymore. The onprem active iq, the support site active iq, and probably some others i'm not thinking of, along with adding this additional option.
Thats certainly with me not having a very good understanding at all of what exactly BlueXP can offer for fully on-prem setups, just trying to get a better feel for how it could help.
The cloud connector at least for Insight was a VM on-prem to proxy & securely connect your on-prem w/ cloud.
It looked like you needed to build out a linux box, and then install the software. A packaged appliance would just be a lot cleaner setup and presumably a lot easier to manage.
Ah ok, gotcha. Your right there. or docker image maybe.
Yeah just some container version, probably will get done at some point but i guess its a bit new currently.
I'm assuming what they had for Cloud Insights, they would utilize also for BlueXP
I like both suggestions a virtual appliance and a container image both sound like good options. I'll make sure that gets back to the product team if they don't pick it up from here
@silk light NetApp employee
All set, @gentle summit! Glad to have you
Good morning, INSIGHT! Ready for Day 2?! We'll be kicking things off in about 45 minutes with Andy Crudge from AWS giving us an Intro and Overview + What's New with FSx ONTAP!
The beard is here!
We're about to get started ... stick with us 🙂
Gremlins are great. 🙂
nice swirling purple lights. I am being hypnotized!
We can hear you.
Thanks, Andy for persevering and appearing.
Damn IT depts, right?! 😉
If you have questions for Andy, you can come off mute and jump in, or ask them here in chat and I'll relay when there's a beat/break
Is there a way to have a node that is shut off except for specific needs or aggregates that are offline so there are no charges or less charges?
Use case: Flexcache to physical FAS/AFF, but have a bigger capacity node/aggr in FSxN that is only powered on as needed to save money.
At this time, no, but I'll relay it anyway. We used to do the same for long-term archive systems that we only sync'ed up once a month.
Serverless FSxN 😉
Airgap
Or if not, is there is a way to have a FSxN template with all the configs so if a new instance is spun up it has all the IP addresses, CIFS AD config, etc. after it is booted?
FSxN Fargate?!
Yes, CloudFormation. Takes 30 mins.
About 10-15 lines of YAML
Nice.
I would start to look more at CDK versus CloudFormation. And CDK is supported now by Terraform, as well:
https://aws.amazon.com/cdk/
https://developer.hashicorp.com/terraform/cdktf
Starting to see customers get more out of CDK because it allows you to define infrastructure in more of an imperative way that most people are used to (scripting) versus the more declarative nature of CloudFormation or Terraform.
^Bingo. Thanks Taylor!
Thanks Nick and Taylor!
Not a question needing mentioned on the call, but this is exactly what I was looking for!
Nick just showing off by mentioning Firecracker. 😉
Is there documentation on how to set CF/CDK up I could send the customer use case I'm asking about? I could try to find something but I figure someone here might have a handy reference or something I can't quickly find on Google.
I found https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cdk/api/v1/docs/@aws-cdk_aws-fsx.CfnVolume.OntapConfigurationProperty.html and https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cdk/api/v1/docs/@aws-cdk_aws-fsx.CfnFileSystem.OntapConfigurationProperty.html

SageMaker Training jobs is primarily what Andy is referring to. Being able to select FSxN volumes behind the containers running those jobs.
I like to poke him about that one every couple of months

Welcome, Geert.
Wonder how big a bill I can run up for DeepRacer training with that kind of setup
The evolution and maturity of ANF over the last 5 years has been incredible
Oh this is cool, I had not heard about this!
I may be biased but I really love our cloud storage offerings
You're biased!
😄
Honestly we struck quick and it shows. We don't slow down in our innovation in the cloud.
I’ve seen many different storage start ups over my career, many of them no longer exist, walking around KubeCon last week I saw many more, of which I don’t think many will be here in a decade. There’s something I always return to, enterprise storage is hard, as much as people wish to say otherwise! It shows that 30 years of experience can bring a lot to the table, even in the modern cloud world.
The hyperscalers built good offerings for the beginnings of the cloud, for the applications of the time that reside in the cloud. However as we see more enterprise style long lived applications arrive in the cloud, the requirements shift to performance and enterprise grade features that just weren’t there, we struck on that and have bridged a gap early on that will have a lasting legacy
Shameless plug... If you're new to ANF and want some more info on architecture, here's a walkthrough I did earlier this year: https://youtu.be/6p0joMfJmgY
In our previous video, we went over the history of Microsoft's Azure NetApp Files and brought you up to speed on the latest developments! In Part 2, we're diving one step further and breaking down the architectural constructs and components of both Azure and ANF that you need to know when putting it into practice.

NFS 4.1 MP (Session trunking) is now supported? It wasn’t from an ONTAP side in the past if I recall it correctly. Sorry if it’s already said earlier I missed the beginning
There was some conversation about session trunking in the beginning, but I'll ask to clarify when there's a break.
Many thanks @opal yarrow
Anytime, great question!
So with 9.12.1 we can finally use NFS 4.1 😀
So, ONTAP 9.12+ is your answer
Is it ok to use the auto FabricPool policy for NFS datastores if the S3 Server is another ONTAP System on-prem? (maybe even on the same switch as the AFF performance tier)
it all depends on how much data goes cold and when it needs read. Of course being in the same DC reduces the risk of perf issues
Do you see vVols being used in the field?
or even in a 4-node cluster 😉
so it goes through your NetApp switches
Flexgroups also potentially open you up to the same types of cascading VM failures if you're spreading it across an entire cluster, No?
I wouldn’t do it personally and I think the answer regarding risk management was very good 👍🏻
Definitely, especially when there's 1000's of VM's. You get to a certain threshold where SPBM becomes mandatory and it's best to do that with VVOLs.
It depends as @dusky ore mentioned. FabricPool in the same cluster: yes. S3 outside the same cluster: no
I personally don’t know anyone using it but here in Europe we may have smaller deployments
Adoption typically comes alongside a standardization on SPBM policies.
Otherwise, most are still just "kicking tires"
Fair point @opal yarrow
Regarding the JSON file for RBAC users for OTV: Pleeeaase provide a link or some guidance regarding how to get the JSON right INSIDE the System Manager user creation page (where you need to upload this JSON). Every time I do it you have to google to find out where on the OTV the JSON is hidden again...
While we're talking: Does anyone actually use SRM? I don't know any NetApp customer who does 🤷♂️
for vVol I will await the new VASA provider 🤓
Haha 😀 Same here, as all using MCC no one uses SRM 😀
🇩🇪 land of the metro
I've probably done 100+ SRM installs over the years, it was used extensively in FlexPod installs I did
uhhh interesting
I've done a lot of MCC as well, but people generally have service catalogues and assign only the highest tier applications to things like stretched-clusters, then do SRM for lower tiers etc
The three tiers I would generally deal with are: In-application HA/replication (SQL AG, Exchange DAG etc), then stretched cluster (MCC) for applications that need the uptime but don't offer in-application options, then SRM for everything else
Main pain point is or was the price and an additional solution. Most customers have MCC for all or some SVM-DR. Even SM-BC from time to time
MCC is also MUCH more popular in UK/EU than it is here in the States

You could have given him 2 and he would have filled it
