#

can't even trigger the intro?

eternal garnet
#

Start a new game for EA 8.1.

carmine bobcat
#

wait

#

what

eternal garnet
#

You may keep your newer game, no issues. It will work once you go back to a recent version

carmine bobcat
#

how do i skip the intro in early access

eternal garnet
#

if possible, hold Esc

carmine bobcat
#

got it

eternal garnet
#

are you in zero base? you should be

carmine bobcat
#

yeah

#

i see a prawn suit

#

outside

#

also the pda is the subnautica one

#

i just destroyed a snowman?

eternal garnet
#

that's in current game too

#

and so is Zero. In a sad state

carmine bobcat
#

can't even see a goddamn thing

eternal garnet
#

if you want, cheat code fog

#

no wait, weather. not fog

carmine bobcat
#

now how do i start

carmine bobcat
eternal garnet
#

start? commands? F3, F8, "disable console", F8, F3, Enter

carmine bobcat
#

i did that

eternal garnet
#

start what? just play

carmine bobcat
#

i did story skipintro as commands

eternal garnet
#

butwhy

#

Thought you wanted to play it

carmine bobcat
#

no

#

that just skips the intro

#

also cyclops?

eternal garnet
#

I think it's gone, but try "sub cyclops"

carmine bobcat
#

go to the old story and do unlockall

eternal garnet
#

you may need an older EA for cyclops

bold monolith
#

Unless you already know what happens there.

eternal garnet
#

nope

#

I've no clue what you want here jackson

snow viper
#

how do you drop items again i swear it was right click or q

bold monolith
#

As for the Cyclops, it wasn't buildable even in EA1.

snow viper
#

i swear im not going mad right

#

its not letting me drop anything

#

also why do i have dolomite!?!??!?!?!

eternal garnet
snow viper
#

no

eternal garnet
#

you drop outside. There is no dolomite.

snow viper
#

bruh it says DolomiteOld

#

theres no picture for it

#

i dont use admin commands

#

wait

#

why is there rumbling

#

HELP

carmine bobcat
#

seatruck has a rear camera?

eternal garnet
#

yeah it was a performance problem, so removed

snow viper
#

guys what is the rhino worm called

#

i just died to it

carmine bobcat
#

ice worm LOL

eternal garnet
#

rhino?

snow viper
#

oh

carmine bobcat
#

how'd you die

snow viper
#

it ate me while i was running on the iceberg thing

carmine bobcat
#

HAHAH

#

uh

#

dont run/dont use a prawn

eternal garnet
#

the 4 legged thing is a snow stalker

carmine bobcat
#

and the blazing hot beak worm is the ice worm

#

best leviathan ever imo

#

i need metal salvage to repair the signal tower to the vesper

eternal garnet
#

it's been a while, but I think in the wrecks

carmine bobcat
fallen trellis
#

Finally made a prawn suit woo

carmine bobcat
#

of you go down from delta you will prob find it

eternal garnet
#

well, salvage is different in EA

fallen trellis
#

Now I just need to find the cart

fallen trellis
#

I had to build a really awkward platform since when I built my moon pool it’s off a twisty cliff that leads deep enough for diamond.

carmine bobcat
#

it says i need ship wreck salvage?

bold monolith
#

The PPU fragments in stable.

carmine bobcat
#

yeah

bold monolith
#

There is no TOM.

carmine bobcat
#

i'm playing the old story final

bold monolith
#

I know.

#

I'm answering to your question.

hard solstice
#

The early access thing on the game is a bug?

bold monolith
#

Yes.

hard solstice
#

Does it have any problems with previous saves?

bold monolith
#

You should be fine, it's the right version the fix to remove the early access warning / watermark wasn't not merged and that's all.

carmine bobcat
#

how do i spawn the item needed to repair the radio towr

eternal garnet
#

dunno. try nocost on the radio tower

carmine bobcat
#

nope

eternal garnet
#

turn it off again

carmine bobcat
#

i did

bold monolith
#

8038 & 8039.

carmine bobcat
#

?

eternal garnet
#

item 8038 ?

bold monolith
carmine bobcat
#

says couldn't find it

bold monolith
#

Maybe their id wasn't the same back then, try with the name.

carmine bobcat
#

nope

#

also i found out you can spawn marge and her prawn

eternal garnet
#

don't always use spawn. item puts things in inventory, and some things can't be spawned

carmine bobcat
#

thanks

#

alright i fixed the tower

eternal garnet
#

A bug: if you leave and come back, the tower appears broken. Ignore that, it works

carmine bobcat
#

ok

#

um what

eternal garnet
#

it's early access, 6 months from release man

carmine bobcat
#

yeah but why

eternal garnet
#

oh. 14 months.

carmine bobcat
#

actually its the build for you to be able to experience the old story

eternal garnet
#

yes. 8.1 ?

carmine bobcat
#

yup 8.1

eternal garnet
#

Mar 2020. 14 months before launch

#

It's fully playable up to making the body. Then there's no more

#

There are other, cut storylines

#

you noticed a rocket?

carmine bobcat
#

yeah

#

what does the rocket do

eternal garnet
#

it spoils your story

carmine bobcat
#

why

eternal garnet
#

I mean, I won't

#

I'll just say it doesn't take people

carmine bobcat
#

reverse camera makes docking modules easy

#

also why does robin have (that)

eternal garnet
#

Ask your mom.

Why did they change the story?

I heard that people complained that it had too much talking in it or something but that doesn't really sound right

# spice seal Why did they change the story?

I think this is part of it, I heard it and it seems reasonable: some people were complaining that it held your hand too much and told you where to go all the time, so it wasn’t really an exploration game anymore

broken badge
unique willow
#

Where can I see the log for this new update?

broken badge

That’s all that was released afaik

unique willow
#

Dang. I thought they might have fixed some bugs

They’re working on it. All the time

But you’ll never make everyone happy no matter what you do, I think it’s ok although no game is perfect. There are guides & such but it’s not like there are markers for everything (tho some stuff there are hints for, if you’re paying attention that isvvWink)

spice seal
#

You can dock modules onto the back to make it into kinda a mobile base

#

I don't really know what you mean by abilities unless you're asking about upgrades and what they do

broken badge
#

I mean the last one you get has a sort of “ability” I guess but I don’t want to spoil it since it’s unlocked a special way

#

Never used it myself anyway

spice seal

neither have I

broken badge
#

Storage, fabricator and docking module are the most useful ones imo

spice seal

those are the only ones I've ever used

I’ve rarely used the sleeper just to try it out. Never used an aquarium module

I was also thinking of crafting a sleeper just because I can

I guess if you REALLY want music while driving the sleeper module is ok

broken badge

fringe forge

Late to the convo but I use the aquarium module like a window so I don’t get jumpscared while not driving

I haven’t gotten to the use of more than storage atm. Also since I can’t see the old convo of today. Anyone know where the docking cart fragments are ?

crimson quartz

Koppa

eternal garnet

in kelp root caves, holes going down in the starting area

Koppa mine too, but you haven't found that I think

shut nimbus

Kelp root is that biome where water monkeys make nests?

crimson quartz
fallen trellis

I built it only to find lead and gold

charred sparrow
#

how do I open it in an EA8 build? how do I get this build it's talking about?

hexed prism
#

yO

eternal garnet
#

you need steam. Steam game properties, enter a beta code: belowzeroearlyaccess
Then pick version EA 8.1

#

although your save is much older than EA8

charred sparrow
#

so should I open it in an even earlier version?

eternal garnet
#

It should work though, or pick EA4 or something

#

what version are you on?

charred sparrow
#

right now I'm on the latest version (whatever that is)

eternal garnet
#

well, you need a pre-Mar 2020 version

#

EA8 is Mar 2020

charred sparrow
#

but the save was made back when the below zero dlc was first released to the public. like officially released. basically with the first story line and stuff

eternal garnet
#

that's also in the list. EA1 maybe, I havent looked. But that version is pretty bad

#

EA8.1 should be compatible, try it

charred sparrow
#

it's not one of those experimental builds like I remember you could play on the more stable release builds and you could play on the experimental builds that was slightly ahead. mine is just the normal official from the day it was first opened for purchase

#

damn. I remember that day. I was so hyped and I bought below zero as soon as it was available in the steam store. I played it for hours. good times

#

how do I use the beta code exactly?

eternal garnet
#

no no.

#

belowzeroearlyaccess

#

it even tells you code invalid

deep kettle
#

The code is just belowzeroearlyaccess without the EA8 thing behind it yeah.

charred sparrow
#

I tried that

eternal garnet
#

I read back my comment about it, and the error is you

charred sparrow
#

wait... it didn't work before

#

oh maybe there was a space in my copy selection

#

but this is the only one I have access to and it says I need at least EA8

eternal garnet
#

you want EA8.1. If that doesn't work, I would try EA4. You want something near july 2019

charred sparrow
#

so... how do I get them?

eternal garnet
#

you just pick a version

charred sparrow
#

look in the image. EA9 is the only one showing up

eternal garnet
#

I dunno what you did wrong. My list

charred sparrow
#

oh

eternal garnet
#

I know: you cropped the hell out of your screencap. Why

charred sparrow
#

what? I didn't crop it?

#

that's a full screenshot. the other options wasn't available before

eternal garnet
#

Well, click top now

charred sparrow
#

they only seem to have become available after I put in the code

eternal garnet
#

yes... that's what the code does.

charred sparrow
#

yes if I click they're there now. before I only had the Experimental option

#

so I thought it wasn't what I needed

#

didn't know the code would activate them. I've never done this before

eternal garnet
#

yes. _No code gives you two, code gives you like 14

charred sparrow
#

btw this won't screw up any current saves, right?

eternal garnet
#

no it won't touch them... most likely

charred sparrow
#

cause I also got an updated save which I played after the dlc was fully complete and released

#

alright. hmm I guess I can take a backup just in case

eternal garnet
#

I have done this and my new save was preserved

#

it will download 2GB or so

charred sparrow
#

maybe I'd want to use EA1 since it was created on the release day when you could first buy it. but I do remember having to update while playing. I had a base in the ||lily pad biome|| that ended up floating because the update moved some terrain around

#

but alright I'll try EA4

eternal garnet
#

maybe. but EA1 is quite awful

charred sparrow
#

might be better

#

yea exactly. and I remember updating so it's not exactly EA1

#

although it would be fun playing on the original release haha

eternal garnet
#

like, EA1 has armor sharks and no crystal caves

charred sparrow
#

dude the version I played on didn't even really have a lily pad biome xD

eternal garnet
#

no arctic, just ice blocks

charred sparrow
#

there was just green moss everywhere

#

I don't remember if there was an arctic. I don't think so? but all the glaciers was look kinda blocky and plastic like

crimson quartz
#

Poor you

charred sparrow
#

honestly I didn't care. I still had a blast xD

#

but those were some tough days... when you barely had any water because bladder fish didn't spawn and there was no water filtration

#

I remember having to use the gravity sphere thing quite often to get enough fish to replenish my water

#

am I stupid? I selected EA4 and I tried to refresh by clicking the Check Code because nothing was showing and now it shows EA9?

#

I mean right as I click on EA4 it just shows nothing

eternal garnet
#

no, the top is what's active. I dunno what the blue thing is about. it's a button?

charred sparrow
#

oh wait so now it's active? I just need to restart?

eternal garnet
#

The top thing controls download, and when it's done you have EA4

#

Game was open?! lol

charred sparrow
#

oh yea. it's downloading now. just had to close the window xD

charred sparrow
eternal garnet
#

june 2019. that will prob. be what you had then

charred sparrow
#

yea either june or july

eternal garnet
#

Several newer versions will be able to load your save, but results may vary

charred sparrow
eternal garnet
#

Some world stuff is stored in your save

#

So they are EA4

#

or EA3

charred sparrow
#

alright so I can see the save was created in may but I remember it being updated since. so june or july is probably pretty accurate

eternal garnet
#

Really neat steam feature this. Only available in steam

charred sparrow
charred sparrow
eternal garnet
#

your disease is called nostalgia. I have it too

surreal tusk
#

....

#

well hello there

charred sparrow
#

only funny thing is that nostalgia is very young. not of some childhood experience. no no. the early days of below zero. when it had just been made available for the public to purchase

charred sparrow
surreal tusk
#

.......

#

i am so tired rn

charred sparrow
#

oof

#

question is how much story I'll be able to complete in this old version of below zero. I remember completing the main part of the story that was available at the time. where you had to get a sample of karrah and send it up to the main ship. but I don't think there was much else available. not without cheats

eternal garnet
#

to be sure it works, make a new save in ea8.1

#

Several hours of gameplay there

clear wigeon
#

subnautica is a good game

#

but i dont know how to play it

#

i just know the basic things

next current
charred sparrow
# clear wigeon but i dont know how to play it

well, subnautica is a kind of open world survival game so the main objective is just to explore. and of course as a rule of thump, always try to go deeper. often in order to go deeper you need better stuff so you need to explore to find better stuff

charred sparrow
eternal garnet
#

scan all the things. Your purpose is to fill the world with beacons

eternal garnet
#

story may break if it's from an old EA save

charred sparrow
#

ah. btw question. the EA4 version has downloaded but how do I play it?

#

like how do I choose a version?

eternal garnet
#

you just play. Your game files are altered

#

and to go back, pick beta = none

next current
#

I highly recommend making backups of your important save games.

charred sparrow
#

so it manages the version stuff on its own? making me able to play both new and old saves?

#

oh so now it's in beta version

eternal garnet
#

er, one at a time, yes

next current
#

Switching between EA versions and stable will likely cause your save to disappear.

charred sparrow
charred sparrow
#

wow. old below zero version. cool

#

ah damnit. still not enough

#

maybe I need an even older version? can't quite make out all the text

eternal garnet
#

so build 16309?

charred sparrow
#

wait it says it's newer? so I need a newer version

eternal garnet
#

older.

#

wait. no

charred sparrow
#

I downloaded EA4. maybe I need EA5? it does say I last played in July

eternal garnet
#

yes you need newer

charred sparrow
#

damn so even if I wanted to I couldn't even play it in an old version. but I guess I could always just download an old version and create a new save

eternal garnet
#

yes. You have the build number that you saved with now: 16309

#

and it's on screen

charred sparrow
#

it's kinda sad the original story was dropped. I was really into it. and I wanted to see it to the end but after I played the first release I wanted to wait for the full game and story to come out. but when I returned for the full release the story was completely changed. kinda unfortunate

#

I still enjoyed the new story. a lot. but I would still like to see the old story haha

eternal garnet
#

it's as complete as possible in 8.1. The last item is building the body

charred sparrow
#

well i m on switch

eternal garnet

narrow mirage
#

ok

#

there are 787879888 ||shadow leviathans||

charred sparrow
#

oh god. the old version. it's so unrefined. I love it. but I don't have my prawn suit grappling arm. that's kinda sad

eternal garnet
#

The grapple is prob. missing in the world, but likely cheatable

next current
#

The Grapple Arm wasn't added legitimatly until EA12.

charred sparrow
#

btw thank you so much for helping me make this happen! I love it! it's so nice being able to play on my old save. apparently I have a snow fox and and much more I need to explore

okay who remembers the old version of below zero? when it was first released? or at least back in july 2019? how did we used to get upgrade modules? I have a few for my seatruck but I don't remember how I got them

shut nimbus
#

I was trying to put together the seatruck and the storage module together

#

I didnt know how

#

And trying to put them together I destroyed the storage module

bold monolith
#

Upgrades were unlocked with the Seatruck itself I don't remember it was something else at some point even in EA.

charred sparrow
shut nimbus
#

How can I put the seatruck modules and the seatruck together??

bold monolith
#

You should be fine using old EA saves with EA8.

#

Use the handle, @shut nimbus.

#

The yellow handle on top of the modules.

charred sparrow
#

but I gotta say it's annoying that my prawn feels so clunky and heavy because it doesn't have the thrust module and it doesn't have the grappling arm. and I don't really have any depth modules or modification stations so I'm pretty vulnerable if I want to go deeper

shut nimbus
charred sparrow
# bold monolith You should be fine using old EA saves with EA8.

yea. I just wanted to explore the old terrain. I remember playing right when it become available to purchase and I build in the lily pad biome on a rock and a few days after there was an update and the rock was removed so now my base floats in the middle of nowhere. it's just kinda fun seeing the old terrain

bold monolith
#

EA8 still has a lot of work in progress areas.

#

It's in 8.1 they began to rebuild the glacial basin / arctic spires.

charred sparrow
#

wait the the glaciers are changed in EA8?

#

omg. I think I prefer the old verison of below zero. I can't get the prawn grappling arm or jet jump upgrade legitimately so I had to spawn them in and the prawn now feels just as good as in the base game! that movement just feels incredible

8.1 the terrain in hoverzone changed already. It wasn't really an EA release, it was the experimental build before the drastic change in the land areas.

#

EA8 is fine.

charred sparrow

but wouldn't I prefer 8.1 since it says it's the final original story build?

carmine bobcat
bold monolith
#

8.1 was there only because players wanted to keep their save from the experimental version back then.

#

Final original story build is more EA8.

charred sparrow
#

from the patch notes it just mentions snowballs was added in 8.1 lol

You can't go to the ending, but you can be very close.

charred sparrow
#

so I can't see the original ending? at all?

bold monolith
#

The original ending wasn't completed at the time.

#

Also, the original ending is kind of the same as this one.

#

With some differences, but the basic idea was the same.

charred sparrow
#

hmm makes sense. well I hoped there was at least the bones of the ending. I wasn't expecting it to be polished or anything. I just hoped there'd at least be something. but it is still a good amount back in the development process so I guess it makes sense

charred sparrow
bold monolith
#

If you completed the game and don't know what else to do, sure it is.

charred sparrow
#

I just kinda want to get back to the version I was playing on release. if 8.1 is the last version to contain that original gameplay I guess I'll play through that. it's a really good game so it can't hurt to play it a couple of times. I did the same with the base game

I finished Below Zero again lately...
Am I the only one who feels that Below Zero is infinitely inferior to the first Subnautica?
Like... in almost every way...
Was it even the same team working on it?

spice seal
#

I definitely preferred the original over BZ also

kind belfry
#

Let me make this into an actual review, with maybe a few bullitpoints the dev's could take away from it if they so choose:

Most Bioms in Below Zero felt frustratingly boring (with a few exceptions, like these underground caves below the kelps... THEY were really a highlight to me!). Not so much because they weren't done well Art-Wise (they totally were, absolutely beautiful). But there wasn't too much to do within them (and I'm not talking like story progression or material farming wise. But also in terms of exploring and observing how the fauna interacts with it's surroundings. How much time did you spend watching a Stalker carry arround Hull platings and subsequently loose their teeth while doing so? Or one of these eals in the glowing mushroom cave hiding inside the shrooms? Fauna in Below Zero on the other hand felt like they're "just there", not really part of the Bioms in particular...)

spice seal
#

yeah the creatures are way less interesting

kind belfry
#

I hardly spend any more time then necessary in most bioms. Because why WOULD I...

spice seal
#

the 2 hostile water leviathans just have the reaper grab attack slapped on

steady stump
#

I honestly agree. The planet felt kinda dull.

#

Like, not unique. Just different looks.

spice seal
#

And in terms of biomes, they definitely should've actually done something with the 3 whole underwater arctic biomes they had

#

the icebergs above are fine but below that it's just a barren landscape with a few patches of kelp, or tons of jellyfish in the west one

steady stump
#

Penglings were so cool cause you got to see them actually hunt

#

Seamonkeys were cool cause you got to watch them steal your stuff

spice seal
#

the map was already way smaller and then they didn't take advantage of the seafloor in all those places

steady stump
#

But the stupid yelling shark and brute sharks were just... there

kind belfry
#

The Leviathans... I have some things to say about those as well.

Remember your first encounter with the Reaper Leviathan... you didn't see him directly. For the most part you heard him, and you weren't even sure if it IS a creature or just the shreeking of the Aurora around you....

Then you saw a silhouette... shady, shrouded you weren't quite sure if you even saw anything at all... maybe just a graphic bug?

But then... it struck! And Every. Single. One. Of. Us. had shed our pants.

The leviathans in Below Zero?
Just put infront of your face, bam. They're big, thus for scawwy....

spice seal
#

I've already written out my complaints about the leviathans in BZ in walls of text you can find by searching for messages I've sent with shadow in them

steady stump
#

That first Reaper encounter was mainly due to the murky water. I feel like it wouldn't work in BZ - because if they did, people would probably just say "ohhhh reaper copy ohhhh same murkiness ohhhhh"

spice seal
steady stump
#

The leviathans needed to have something unique honestly

kind belfry
steady stump
spice seal
steady stump
#

Don't get me wrong, the game is really good, but the fauna just is... kinda dry

spice seal
#

I did like ventgardens tho

steady stump
#

except certain cases

spice seal
#

and the ||ice worms|| were actually new and innovative as well imo

steady stump
#

mhm

kind belfry
#

Oh Below Zero certainly wasn't bad, I'm not saying that. But I say it was inferior to Subnautica Main game

spice seal
#

yeah absolutely

kind belfry
spice seal
#

that's still better than big spoopy with reaper attack

kind belfry
#

Fair

spice seal
kind belfry
#

And yes, I liked the Sea Monkeys. They were the ONLY Fauna I really liked interacting with. It gave you the feeling of being an ACTUAL Biologist researching a foreign species.

steady stump
#

call me wrong but while the atmosphere for the reaper was cool the looks were weak. I feel like BZ's fauna designs looked better but put into practice it didnt feel unique

#

bz's fauna design makes you feel like you're on an alien planet i mean the stuff there looks genuinly alien

#

subnautica's designs looked kinda goofy

kind belfry
spice seal
#

well they put more work into the model design for the leviathans in bz because they wouldn't be interesting or scary otherwise

steady stump
#

my first reaper encounter wasn't that memorable or scary, except for 5 seconds. he just grapped me, then let me go and i just saw him and laughed

kind belfry
#

Sad, mine was far more fascinating...

#

I think most peoples were

steady stump
#

reaper just looked like an angry grandpa with mask

spice seal
#

mine was I strayed into the Mountains by accident and one grabbed my seamoth and pulled it under crush depth until it exploded

steady stump
#

dragons just looked kinda goofy and they went through walls, ghosties had nothing unique, just kinda a long hammerhead snake

#

reefbacks were the only cool design wise for normal subnautica (dont get me wrong everything looked nice but reefbacks stood out for me), and im glad they focused more on design in bz

#

but the ai still felt lacking, same with the void

#

at least they made unique textures for the void this time, still wish they had a unique creature

kind belfry
#

I really liked these blue glowing semi transparent rays in the shromp forest...

spice seal
#

yeah jellyrays looked cool

steady stump
#

im mainly talking about leviathans in this case, but quite a few smaller fauna in normal SN looked great

kind belfry
#

Fair. Tho I really DID like the Ghost Leviathan

spice seal
#

Yeah I liked the attention to detail they put into the Ghosts lifecycle

kind belfry
#

The only one I didn't like was the Seadragon. For the same reason as the BZ leviathans. Boring, straight to your face, nothing mysterious about them.

spice seal
#

it actually gave an in universe explanation for why ghosts are in those pretty specific spots

steady stump
#

that is true. i wish they focused on the origins or life cycle of creatures

#

like i loved the i||ce worm graveyard||

kind belfry
#

I wasn't really that intimidated by the ice worms honestly...

steady stump
#

ice worms should have been more of a threat to be feared

#

like they're a giant worm with a super hot horn and they just kinda... dont attack enough

#

you can just run past them sometimes

kind belfry
#

They could have done more with them. Imagine if you saw their silhouette underneath the ice every now and then... not close enough for you to actually see what it is, but to see that there IS something

spice seal
#

they attacked me a lot

steady stump
#

i mean like they attack you a lot but they arent too much of a danger if you just keep walking

#

especially with prawn and grapple

steady stump
#

the overall atmosphere revolving the leviathans was just kinda weak

#

imagine hearing an echo or glimpse of shining light at the edge of your render distance for the shadow

#

you cant see it overall but you can see the glowing stomach

spice seal
kind belfry
#

This is something Subnautica did very well... it didn't threaten you by just plain and simply put big scawwy monstA in youre face... the threat was always something that was constantly around you, but rarely seen directly. It was always implied...

steady stump
#

imo i disagree. they put the majority of the threat in 3 biomes on the surface. mountains, dunes, and aurora. thats it. if you stayed away from those biomes you wouldn't be in any immediate danger

#

adult ghosties on the surface are super easy to avoid. they're too up to get them to notice you. just stay low.

kind belfry
#

It was always like "Yes, you ARE in danger, and you SHOULD be afraid... but I leave it to you to figure out what you should be afraid about."

steady stump
#

sea dragons and juvi ghosties were just annoying. not a threat. dragons are just too clumsy and slow and ghostie juvis arent too much of a threat if you just move fast

spice seal

the first time seeing and hearing leviathans was sick

#

for bz though, you had to face them

kind belfry
#

They didn't do a lot of damage in numbers, that's never what it was about, but they FELT dangerous.

steady stump
#

bz is kinda the same way. sure you gotta face the leviathans which is nice, but they arent too dangerous and not an immediate threat

kind belfry
#

True

#

In BZ you also never had the feeling of being alone... thanks to Alan constantly droning on about something (and in the earlier versions, Sam giving you a call every now and then)...

my ways to fix it:

  1. Remove the eletric shock module on the seatruck. Basically a get out of jail free card for basically every leviathan.

  2. Increase their damage.

  3. Increasing their commitment. For me, after getting out of a hold from a chelicerate, they back off a bit. make it so they don't do that, but they circle you. make you think.

  4. Make them more resistant to damage. Make it so they only flee after taking a large amount of damage OR you run FAR outside of their patrol area.

  5. Make them faster.

  6. Increase their patrol range. Maybe have them go outside their biome for a bit to go hunting, like have them fall under an eating pattern. Mainly for chelicerates, like have the purple vents chelicerate move into the edge of the lilypad islands biome.

  7. Add atmosphere. Make their roars farther and echo, or another example for Shadow Leviathans: Make their blue part glow in the distance, so you only see a blue light moving around, similar to the Reaper where you would often see just a small tail or shadow. I loved that about the Reaper.

#

They're just cowards. For being the top of the food chain, you wouldn't think they'd give up so easily when they get punched or shocked once.

#

They don't feel like apex predators and thats my biggest complaint.

#

They're supposed to be LEVIATHANS. Not just another scared creature.

#

If they're dangerous, maybe people would actually fear them.

kind belfry
#

Huh.... the bot just warned me about my language, guess they don't like the F bomb here XD

#

Let me rephrase:

I disagree. I don't think damage of their behaviour (like their patrol behaviour or how fast they go away) are the real issue here.

As I said, I always felt the more impressing thing was how the danger in Subnautica was, for the most part, implied instead of actually put in front of you. Especially on your first playthrough, you never really knew if you are in danger or when... there was a certain mystique around every threat...

steady stump
#

Hmm, I guess thats true, but I feel like their fear just goes away after the first time. My complaint is that they aren't a looming threat, only a threat for 1-3 times. Like, I know that you just move away from the mesmer after you've seen it 2-3 times. I know that sand/bone sharks are cowards. I know that ghosties just need room.

#

My main issue is that they're only scary a couple of times

kind belfry
#

One clever trick they could have pulled to make their Leviathans more scary: Make them spawn in my peripheral vision.... don't let me SEE them....

steady stump
#

I feel like they could use one trick out of Reaper's book, without making it seem like a copy: They don't roar when they are aggrod onto you / in their aggro range.

#

Maybe make them try and circle around you. Its strange, the PDA said that the Reaper has mostly muscles and no brain despite it being the smartest leviathan in the game when it comes to hunting tactics

#

May just be me, but Reapers only roar when they get within maybe 10 meters of me

#

At least their signature roar, not the echo one

spice seal
#

they're supposed to only roar loud when they aggro on you

kind belfry
#

Or what they suggested above for the ice worm...

Let me see them once sticking their head out from a distance and burrow down below the surface again. Let me see "Yes, there is something out there, and it will brÜtalise mi budd if it gets me", and then hide it for a while, and make it attack me after at least 5 minutes....

steady stump
spice seal
#

yeah that's what I said

steady stump
#

Oh. I thought you meant as soon as they aggrod onto you, not when they were 5-10 meters away

spice seal
#

is that not the same thing

#

they aggro when they get close

steady stump
#

I mean for me they only roar when they grab me. They aggro from a bit farther away.

spice seal
#

oh

kind belfry
#

I found one line from the PDA's text about the reaper super frightening:

"When you hear it, it sees you..."

steady stump
#

Maybe increase their aggro range too. Make it so they stop roaring if you see them.

#

For BZ leviathans, I mean

kind belfry
#

Yeah, that would have been quite the heart attack

steady stump
#

I also kinda like how we're not isolated this time. Felt good to not be alone for once. I feel like the devs turning BZ to be more story based was a good idea, but they still should have put a bit more attention into AI.

#

After all, this is supposed to be a sequal, not a copy.

#

Actually, its supposed to be a spin off right?

kind belfry
#

Or... imagine a creature that hunts like a wolfpack...

They don't immediately attack you. You know they are there, circling you... you know they WILL strike, but you don't know when.

||Huh, I never realised that the bow of the Mercury 2 had three PPU frags||

Let 3-4 of them circle you, let you SEE them circle you... but not attack right now... and then let them strike suddenly out of nowhere while hoawling...

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuus...

steady stump
#

All the penglings in the area should've gone after you if you took a child honestly. For what seems like a more group-based animal they dont seem to be that close

Small AI details like that is what makes a game turn from great to amazing. Which is why I feel like SN BZ is more of a 8/10 unlike normal SN being a 10/10 for me

#

Don't get me wrong, SN BZ was a delight to play, just not as good as normal SN

#

But i'm being a bit hypocritical, I just said they're supposed to be different games, my bad

#

Shouldnt be comparing them too much

kind belfry
#

Also, for an ARCTIC themed enviroment it didn't really feel that arctic most of the time...

They could have built' an biom completely inside caves inside an iceberg for example...

steady stump
#

true

#

thats why i always make my base above on icebergs

#

i like looking outside and it suddenly being a snowstorm

spice seal
#

yeah they could've utilized like the whole space under the land biomes to build big cave biomes under them

naive crow
# steady stump Wait it has 3? Thought it only had 2

In Subnautica Below Zero we meet Marguerite Maida. Without giving away too much of the story, she needs your help to maintain her privacy. This means you will need to unlock the Parallel Processing unit which is a component for another item you must craft. The Parallel Processing Unit scans are found in the three sections of the Mercury II wreck...

And thats a shame, I loved the idea of an arctic biom when it was just a rumor for original subnautica
