Tbf, I know this isn’t what you want to hear but I find the solution there to be to park my tadpole somewhere they can’t shoot (like a crevice) or just never go too far from it in case they start shooting at me.

The only time I’ve had to deal with a completely broken down tadpole is when the collector mauled mine once and also…sitarays 😓

Afaik the depth module ‘quest’ is the only time you really need to go far from it there and even then it provides a pretty convenient nook to hide it in to this end, at least in one of the openings.

In general the needler nest definitely isn’t somewhere you wanna be for very long at all in fairness.

All the Subnautica games have been weird with power usage. Realistically the single largest power draw would be oxygen generation, but we get that for free and everything else except crafting is stupidly expensive power wise, filtering drinkable water through a reverse osmosis filter that removes all pathogens can be done by a hand pump or small 12v motor IRL

It's still a design choice that's up to the devs really and I think they made themselves pretty clear on what they wanna do, some of them said the best they might do is let you kill small fish like when you hit a halfmoon with the tadpole or things like that.

If the balance depends on creatures not being killed but only driven away or relocated to a degree then technically it does, because it would mean the game devs would have to consider the design balance of two different game modes which takes time and planning, and you could say that you personally wouldn't care if the killing predators mode was balanced or not, but there will be people who will have a bit of a point that say "why would they add a game mode if they weren't even going to meaningfully support it" 🤷

Hey Caduryn, so subnautica 2 is great! been playing for over 30 hours no problems, but today it now crashes on startup, i can clearly hear my gpu going 100% fanspeed, then games crash. i have tried the whole list subnautica support recommend, nothing is working. my rig is: AMD 7800x3D , 4080 Super, 32 gb ram.

I feel like metal farms should be nerfed, I heard a dev say it might be a good idea to have them be location-dependent, with different areas giving different minerals, which sounds pretty good to me. ||there's this awesome heat zone that I don't know the actual name of that is just too cool not to make a base in so I did it + cool screenshots of 2 other places||
||the only real problem I have with my base in the heat zone is that occassionally a houndgar will be able to use their thing on me through the walls of my base and it can be kind of annoying||
||also sorry if the screenshots look terrible my steam deck can barely run the game at a desired framerate above low settings||

Honestly, Titanium looks a lot like Lead in the first game. SIlver I found easy to find since it's so jagged. And as said, I kept moving and tried to make mental notes of how far this area was from the lifepod. Survival games are ALL about shuffling back and forth.

Titanium, Quartz and Silver seem to be pretty abundent. Silver is just more relegated to caverns.

The first time I played through, I found lots of silver... but it was all large deposits.

And you can't mine the large deposits without having silver.

So, they now put a few small bits of silver near one of the large deposits that NoA points you to. I think it's a very good change.

He won't chase you underneath the overhangs but you might take a little damage from going under crush depth otherwise you can try to skirt the edge of the patrol area and get by cleanly

A 3050 would be considered just above minimum specs so you'd have to play on low graphics to get smooth results, 3060 can probably do medium @ 1080p, maybe with quality upscaling.

just to expound on this a bit. optimization is a process, not a destination. as we do engine updates, as we nail down more internal pipelines, etc etc, we'll keep on optimizing. we want lower-end machines to run the game well, not just barely.

and we've already pivoted to making stuff cheaper / lower spec up front a few months ago before shipping, since the AI datacenters started buying up all gaming hardware and making it harder to enter the PC gaming space.

we know its very difficult to get good hardware now, so we're trying to cut down on some special fancy rendering stuff in favour of better low-end performance for current and future content.

There are different ways to approach that problem.You could always do what other games do, have fancy render being a optional graphic toggles. For example Satisfactory has lumen as a optional graphics toggle but also runs perfectly fine without it.

The Collector leviathans are obviously pretty smart, being cephalopods, so I wouldn't be surprised if they actually evolved to lure the Axium (who were after the rockbore, and probably angel combs too to some degree) and that's why they also know how to deal with vehicles

Yeah, my friend went to it (or tried to) in creative with cheats enabled and there was a solid invisible wall that stopped her from getting any closer at a certain distance. There was a couple holes in the wall that she found and could get in closer through, but they were hard to find. It was honestly surprising to see foliage up there tho, which we assumed was because the later parts of the story are gonna have us go up into the tree at some point whenever those parts get released.

I had the same problem and just found a solution. Save the game. Load it again, then use unstuck button. You will land in the base instead. But maybe with a new problem: can't use tools until you have built a new tadpole and have and entered and left it

And in any case whether it ‘matters’ or not from a casualty standpoint it still says a lot that he chose to extinguish it instead of letting it burn for sake of someone begging him not to drown them. Tmu a lot of the upper portion of the base hadn’t been immediately impacted at least.

tbh, the scale of SN2 feels completely different like everything is close together speeds are lower, when you go down it feels deeper already, so at least personally I don't want them to hit an arbitrary number to match SN1. But what I do want is a biome that feels deep, something that evokes a sense of crushing depth and abyss in the ways that SN1 rarely did, like maybe the blood kelp trench at night but otherwise the caves almost felt too enclosed to feel cold and hostile in a way the dpeths should be.

basically, your PC is a unique arrangement of hardware.

no. it wasnt always like this. its a combination of hardware and engine changes.

now the issue is big enough that it makes a noticeable difference. before, they were just generated so fast you would never notice.
